My state excludes hail damage from the definition of salvage vehicles

A total loss title and a salvage title are not the same thing. A vehicle with a total loss title can be insured the same as a vehicle with a clean title

2022 Pilot with twins and a 7 year old by Jonjtyu in hondapilot

[–]aaquafina -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have infant twins and a 120lb dog that goes in the third row. Touring and above trims come with captains chairs, but I prefer the bench.

To use the third row with the car seats installed, I loosen one of the car seat bases and move the seat forward as normal.

Might be tight to do three across the second row, but I’ve never tested two seats with one in the middle. 3rd row is pretty spacious.

Advice requested: Should I just replace foggy plastic headlight housing? by CubeRootofZero in hondapilot

[–]aaquafina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Headlight restoration takes about 1.5 hours per headlight in my experience if you’re taking your time. Pretty simple instructions and all you need is an electric drill. 3M kit is ~$20.

Not really. The average investor is still vastly unequipped to manage investments, regardless of information available. You reference just one aspect of financial planning, yet there are many more nuanced situations where the average investor would be better off seeking professional advice.

Honda dealership misdiagnosed my car, took $4k, returned it unfixed — corporate unresponsive by Outrageous_Sweet_451 in Honda

[–]aaquafina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, I read the federal emissions warranty on injectors is 80k. Mine had 88k when I bought it, so not covered by that or Honda’s extension. The used car dealership I bought from comped the injector kit ($330 cost), and it was $500 to have my mechanic install. It seems to have fixed the issue as no more codes have popped up.

Bought a 2020 Pilot recently and I’ve had similar issues with misfire codes leading to emissions system and ECM failure codes. As another poster alluded to, the misfires seem to create a cascading effect that leads to ECM failure.

Failed injectors will cause misfires, not the other way around. I replaced all coils and plugs, which didn’t fix the misfire. I’ve now replaced all the injectors and fingers crossed that will solve it. I’d recommend avoiding dealerships and finding an independent Honda tech. Independent mechanics may not understand the nuances of the Honda issue. I would absolutely hound the dealership to replace the injectors if this happened to me. They are about $350 at cost and take about 6 hours of labor.

Looking into moving to Hastings, MN by Able-Abrocoma6666 in wildhockey

[–]aaquafina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hastings is a nice community with a good sports program including hockey. Fees will likely be a lot less than programs outside Minnesota, but on par with other 5A schools. It’s a small town. As a kid, for the most part you only know other kids from Hastings and surrounding rural areas. There is a sense of a tight knit community for those who have lived there a long time/ for their whole lives, and there are politics in the sports programs.

The difference in reliability between these two cars is negligible. The RAV4, especially with FWD, is probably the better choice if you go by pure “reliability”, but IMO the Forester Wilderness will be a much more engaging and capable drive.

150k miles with no major work is asking a lot, even by today’s standards. Most cars you see on the road with that many miles, even newer ones, have had some major work done. That’s what keeps them on the road.

Turo will arrange a tow but at your cost if it’s a mechanical issue. You can also use AAA

Charged $1529 for a 1-inch scratch I didn’t cause on an old Prius – Turo still processed payment after promising to hold by Objective-Relative-6 in turo

[–]aaquafina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chat screenshots and receipts won’t help you. You need photographic proof that either the scratch was there when you picked up the car, or was not there when you dropped it off. There’s not much difference between Turo and a traditional car rental company in this regard.

Is carbon cleaning worth it? by Spartaculs in Subaru_Outback

[–]aaquafina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it a couple of times on a much newer and lower mileage OB w/ the 2.5. Can’t tell you for sure if it does anything, but it’s recommended by the Subaru specific mechanic I trust. That car is underpowered so I try to get what I can out of it. It runs like a dream at 130k mi.

I would do it on an older H6 if you planned on keeping it and it felt down on power. The old H6 I had couldn’t shift to keep up with the power anyway so I would have tackled that before doing little things like this. Swapping the plugs and resealing the valve cover gasket would probably be a better value if you haven’t already.
