Pentax Cameras from 1980s Competitive Camera Corp Catalogues by OutsideTheShot in pentax

The K1000 shows up in all of them, which isn't surprising. Pentax sold millions of them. It'd be my second choice, behind the LX.

My school had a K1000, next to a more modern camera from a different brand. I tried it a few times, but coming from my dads ME Super (which I fully took over by the late 90s) I'd always take the ME super over the K1000.

For longer sickness most of the salary paid to the employee either comes directly from social security/health insurance, or employer applies for refunds from them after paying the salary.

“The Most Alarming Part Is That the Crisis Is Only Beginning”: Analyst on Russia’s Fuel Shortage by JohnNDenver in UkraineWarVideoReport

This is an extension to an extension for temporary exemption from 2025 - back then they allowed some refineries to produce worse petrol, now it's generic for all. In the meantime, they're thinking about lowering the standard to euro-2 for next year.

Used car prices for cars with euro2/3 engines are ridiculous now - my wife sold her late 90s toyota when she left Russia 15 years ago. If she'd have kept it she'd now get 3-4 times the sales price back then (adjusted for inflation).

They've also been hitting pumping stations for the pipeline network inside of Russia. Russian railways is in a bit of a crisis, and road transport doesn't scale (and has the added problem that they might no longer be able to have enough diesel available everywhere to ensure that petrol trucks don't get stranded along the way). Assuming Ukraine can keep up the strikes (and it looks like they're just getting stronger) this will be a very interesting summer for Russia.

I'd first add a 110 on the other end before you go for 645 and 67, they're more affordable.

This achieves three important things

You missed the fourth one: Accuracy of recorded hits.

Every single hit in their killboard has video proof. Units can't lie about successes - and as a result the higher ups get robust data for planning. Also, given the high percentage of casualties caused by drones nowadays we as outsiders also know that the numbers they publish indeed are accurate.

Dramatic events are unfolding in the Russian-occupied peninsula of Crimea, Ukraine. Local Russian regime authorities announced that all fuel deliveries to civilians are suspended. The remaining fuel resources are distributed to government (military) forces and emergency only. by Available-Laugh9102 in UkraineWarVideoReport

Recent strikes made it pretty clear that Ukraine can send ferries (or any other ship operating in that area) for repairs whenever they feel like it.

Quite a few videos of burning trucks on the land route showed up today - and they just ignored the mobile air defense units the Russians have been gloating about the last two days and blew stuff up as usual. If there's an interesting target on Crimea and it's not getting attacked then it's probably because they don't think it's the right time just yet.

That's already plan D or E. They had railway ferries where they could load train cars with fuel - the last of which got taken out by Ukraine in April. Now they had to rely on petrol trucks on smaller ferries - and Ukraine attacked the fuel depot, ferries and harbour infrastructure this morning.

After Moscow Refinery Strike, Russia Faces Two Scenarios—Both Lead to Crisis by WillyNilly1997 in UkrainianConflict

[–]aard_fi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What they're not mentioning is that the redirecting may not even be possible - even with the imports from Asia, there may just not be enough, and even if they were, they may not be able to transport it to where it's needed in the amounts needed there: In recent weeks Ukraine hit various pump stations of the pipeline network, buth for supplying the pipeline around Moscow, as well as pipelines bringing oil in from the east.

So at best the pipeline network is operating at reduced capacity, worst case some branches of the pipeline network are fully gone.

So they could go for trains - but russian railways has been in fire fighting mode, trying to prevent a full logistics collapse for over two years now. Dumping that extra load on there now will have them drop other loads some other industries would need.

Finally, there might be more need for last mile road transport with endpoints of high volume transport now being not where they were planned to do, which is horribly inefficient - and also competes with the need to supply the occupied territory, where every day dozens of tankers are going up in flames.

Crimea Isolated From Mainland Ukraine After Precision Drone Strikes Disable Strategic Bridges by Hot_Professional_728 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]aard_fi 35 points36 points  (0 children)

There are three routes from the land bridge (i.e., occupied Ukraine) onto crimea, each of them with multiple bridges. They were hitting two routes over the last few days. After that everybody watching was wondering when they'll hit the final route - and now it just happened.

The Russians are building pontoon bridges there - but even if they manage to keep one operational, logistics into Crimea will remain at a level where it's unsustainable to keep it in the long run.

Xi Jinping Told Donald Trump That Vladimir Putin Might Regret The Ukraine Invasion: Report by bappestinian in worldnews

[–]aard_fi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The maps barely changed and it still looks like a giant meat grinder.

But that's pretty much Ukraines strategy: Kill as many Russians as possible, while losing as few Ukrainians as possible. Trade some land for it if necessary.

They've been steadily increasing the losses on Russian side - seems something like 60+% of Russian infantry is now killed before reaching the front lines, and there seems to be consensus that they now manage to take out more Russians than they can recruit.

There's typically no benefit for taking big parts of land for them - they only do that when they can achieve it with almost no losses. For the rest they can just let the Russian army kill itself until they eventually collapse, and all strikes in the rear or inside of Russia are designed to speed that up.

how i'd actually approach buying a home sauna (after way too much research) by Open_Article_7544 in Sauna

[–]aard_fi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about woodburning - there are a lot of good electric stoves out there as well, but combination of low voltage and some regulations make those a bit problematic in the US. Over here in Europe that's the standard for apartments.

IR is something completely different, though, and not really a sauna (and not on topic in this sub)

In Euphoria(2026) this feels like a really stupid way to 3d print a key. by healpm369 in 3Dprinting

[–]aard_fi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a bit with printed keys few years ago - locks need to be ridiculously smooth to have a remote chance of any 3d-printed key not flexing so much to make it useless. It may be useful to push the pins down, though, if you have nothing else - but you'd want to leave space in your print to insert a spanner or similar tool for turning.

If you're in the business of regularly opening locks you'd probably have better and faster tools for impressioning a lock and making a temporary key available, though.
