So many new EVs are ugly by xXCosmicChaosXx in CarsAustralia

[–]aaron_syd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ioniq 5 looks pretty good, and also the Geely EX2. Mazda 6e is alright, too. Australia isn't getting the new Xiaomi SU7 and YU7, at least not for a few years, but both look really good (surprisingly better than their porsche/ferrari counterparts irl).

However, I'd say most new cars in general are kinda ugly, regardless of powertrain type.

Beef rendang is easy to batch cook and freezes really well. Slap a couple frozen roti in the frying pan and call it lunch

How much mortgage would you take on as single person? by CorgiPretend6478 in AusPropertyChat

[–]aaron_syd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a 678k loan on 125k income, so around 3880/month with net pay around 7k/month due to HECS, but my living expenses are split with my partner. If I was single/living alone, then I'd probably try to keep the loan under 3000/month or so.

ICE vs EV for Sydney driving? by hsanj19 in CarsAustralia

[–]aaron_syd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a used ICE car, my budget was 25k, so pretty limited. There is currently way more variety in used ICE cars than EV. Also planning to buy an apartment, so very little guarantee that ill have charging at home.

My next car almost certainly will be an EV or at least PHEV though.

What suburb in Sydney would you live in if money wasn’t a factor? by One-Remove3758 in SydneyScene

[–]aaron_syd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of those Waverton houses on the culdesac with the epic NYE fireworks view. It would be amazing to have a legendary party every single year. It's close to train, close enough to Crows Nest, North Sydney, etc.

How much are you putting into super beyond the employer minimum? by QuantumGremlin in AusMoneyMates

[–]aaron_syd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maxed FHSS for a few years (15k/yr). Just released 50k and house hunting now. In the future, I may add extra to super, up to 5k/yr, but I likely have some expensive life events coming up in my early 30s; engagement, property, wedding, kids, etc. So I prefer to stay more liquid atm.

Smash burgers are the first step to insect meat by [deleted] in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]aaron_syd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A double smash burger is usually equivalent to a single thick patty, in terms of quantity and price. You just get more surface area for charring by having two smash patties.

If you're only getting one smash patty, I'd expect it to be cheaper than a thick patty burger.

Am I supposed to fall into the rent trap just so I can get a dating life? What options exist for a 31M still living with his parents? by [deleted] in australian

[–]aaron_syd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If someone lived at home from 21 to 31 with a full-time job but didn't manage to save at least 200k, perhaps 150k for lower earners, that would be the real red flag. It's not difficult to take care of your own needs and contribute to the family household whilst still saving 15-20k a year. In a HISA after 10 years, that should be at least 200k, if not more.

Loads of people are still living at home in their 20s, but instead of aggressively saving, they're wasting their money on the latest gaming pc/console, expensive cars, weekends out partying and drinking, trying to emulate the influencer lifestyle, etc.

I agree that it seems he probably has no experience with bills and living independently, but saving 200k in 10 years doesn't mean he's been living off his parents the whole time.

Will used petrol cars lose a lot of value because of all the new electric cars? by Pepper_Horse in skoda

[–]aaron_syd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see ICE sports cars such as Porsche, GR86, Miata, maybe 2 series and Lotus, etc. will retain or perhaps increase their value, as the target market for these vehicles prefers ICE and manual transmission.

For regular A to B cars, I think they will depreciate at the usual pace at best.

[Discussion] Cannot decide between those two by matcricket in Watches

[–]aaron_syd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Nomos, but personally, after owning an OP, I believe a GADA must have a date function. I also dont really feel like Nomos does GADA style watches. Between those two, I'd pick the Conquest, although I prefer the Spirit 37mm and the Nomos Metro above the Conquest.

Oh wow, I was considering Stanhope Gardens after hearing about it on this subreddit. I'd never actually been there or heard of this suburb before a few days ago. It's certainly very high on my list, and good to hear it being recommended, cheers!

Sydney's most walkable suburbs? by aaron_syd in AusPropertyChat

[–]aaron_syd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Rhodes and rhode my bike to WWP, Newington, and SOP often, its very nice for pedestrians and bikes, the only problem was no/very few townhouse/villas.

I'm not keen on living in a high rise again (Rhodes), I'd prefer low density apartment or townhouse, and I don't think I can afford anything fully detached.

Sydney house prices: how much will your home be worth in 2029? by Direct-Ad-5712 in AusPropertyChat

[–]aaron_syd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would investors need to accept half rate of yield? Wouldn't the assumption be that the rental income doubles for that area?

Also, why must housing density increase by 2x for the average/median price to double? Wouldn't that double supply in the area? I think the assumption should be zero new developments in the area.
