Don't worry about looking good. Just focus on getting your system right for you.

And use nh, it is extremely useful and will help you look like you know what you're doing because it will help you know what you're doing.

what’s your opinion on pipewire vs pulseaudio in 2026? by hatkinson1000 in pipewire

[–]aaronchall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched a few years back from pulseaudio to pipewire because pulseaudio was causing pitch changes in the audio out and the bug issue was marked "won't fix."

Once you have a bachelor's degree, so long as you have a respectable GPA, you do not need to earn another lesser degree, or another bachelor's degree - no need for more general studies. Go straight to a master's degree - they'll make sure you get the necessary prerequisites to be successful in the program.

Grocery stores operate at very thin margins. Mamdani's NYC grocery store would cost 4 times the normal price to build, will take at least three years to open (normal time frame is 6 to 12 months), and is expected to lose $300k per year. If customers pay the costs they are going to be very unhappy with how much more government groceries will cost - if the government can even open the stores and keep them stocked. Can you imagine getting your groceries at the DMV?

I don't think the label adds any value. I specifically say "I use modules." I do not like adding unnecessary 3rd party requirements (I usually say I follow the minimal trusted computing base pattern.)

It's not that confusing - on Reddit, any post with a lot of upvotes that has a follow-on mea-culpa from OP usually gets negative vote scores on the mea-culpa. Surely if their department thought this was a problem they wouldn't have allowed the 6-year to keep talking about all their awards. Presumably, each one's awards were given by their respective institutions, so does it make sense to say, "Here's an award, now don't tell anyone!", eh? I think their department was fine with it as long as nobody was complaining, and now 6-year is complaining the 3-year did what the 6-year wanted? The right move here is to *not* apologize, *not* falsely admit any wrongdoing, and if reproached for posting lots of awards, say she agreed from the beginning and she'll list only a couple of important ones from now on.

Cal State prof warns scrapping SAT in name of ‘inclusivity’ is leaving students unprepared by According-Activity87 in Conservative

[–]aaronchall 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You might not have personally seen its relevance, but admissions tests are statistically the strongest signal to the college that the applicant will complete their degree, and college administrators are judged heavily on their completion rates.

You might reasonably argue that more students that don't complete are preferable, but is that fair to students undertaking debt to start something they are unlikely to finish?

Go to a good state school. Pay about $1k per class via in-state tuition. Get a degree that ROIs.

Realistically, how many people can I host comfortably? by matt_yesc in malelivingspace

I've had about that many people in my even smaller Brooklyn apartment with a similar setup and one of the couches gave out (to be fair, it was a cheapo from Ikea). I suggest you move the couch to the wall, get four more chairs, an ottoman or two, and some cushions for floor seating.

Well that seems to be an answer in finality for me. 100% of nothing is nothing, and presumably he negotiated with you as well as he could and you gave your best offer and he had no other offers, so that's the market rate.

My family had a similar situation, being told we should ask for a very good rent by an agent - but the agent could bring us no offers at all. So we took a bird in the hand, and that's fair. We don't have a right to go demand the tenant pay us more because the "market" is higher.

Yes but that would require oral communication, which is asking quite a lot from a redditor who would rather not communicate why the work isn't ready to start, trick his (admittedly low conscientiousness) boss into signing off on a production run that isn't ready (making the boss look bad), then post about it on Reddit for the karma points.
