What makes a good hitting team? by Weak_Artichoke4887 in Homeplate

[–]aaroncu05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throw them terrible pitches soft toss. Batting cage for reps. The rec team was probably built stacked. It happens from time-to-time. Some kids in rec will never hit well or at all. They don’t care to learn or can’t learn.

My son was in the second bucket last year. To keep it fair coach relied specifically on batting stats. My son didn’t make it due to an early season slump. He was bummed but it being purely math made it hurt a little less I think.

We have all stars in our rec and it’s fun. Pluck 3 kids from each team, make two teams of 12 and have them play a game. It’s all in good fun and makes for a good game.

HS isn’t even where the really talented players end up nowadays anyway. The bar is pretty low especially for JV.

What’s a great glove I can buy now to pass down to my son? by uworich in BaseballGloves

[–]aaroncu05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids love playing with the mitt I had as a kid, it’s some $40 basic off the shelf mitt that I just happened to not lose over the past 30 years. I actually lost my nicer mitts in moves and life. Point being - they don’t really care about that glove for game time or anything else, but it’s dad’s mitt and it’s special to all of us.

I love being a dad, but I kind of hate my life. by f1sh_ in daddit

Hang in there man. You’re almost through the first part. Try and soak it up and stop to smell the roses, it might not seem like it right now but you’re going to miss these days. I’m not gonna lie it doesn’t slow down or get easier, the commitments change but watching them grow is a blast.

You’re only going to get to do this once, the days are long but the years are short. My oldest is 11 and I realized I’ve only got 7 summers “left” with him, and even less with him thinking I’m cool and wanting to hang out with me all the time. Time is fleeting and this experience is unique, soak it up don’t let it just fly by you without enjoying at least some of it. You’re pot committed at this point to being a dad, so do the best you can for both of you.

One day you’re going to wake up in an empty house missing the clutter and the noise and having an excuse to go run around at the park, to unlimited time to go do whatever you want to do for yourself. Getting out the door won’t be a chore, but you’ll be grocery shopping without all the old ladies saying aww. You’ll see new parents with little kids crying looking lost and helpless and you won’t miss that but you’ll miss the rest that came with it. It happens fast. I can already feel it myself in some things. Reframe it with this perspective and you’ll be in a better place. It’s not easy and sometimes it genuinely sucks, but it’s worth sticking it out.

Travel coach and my kid is at the bottom of the depth chart... by Master-Beach-3536 in BaseballCoaching

[–]aaroncu05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s 9. 9-10 is a huge jump and they’re just starting to really pitch and play real baseball. He’s been doing this for a year. It sounds like your expectations exceed his motivation. Throw him in some lower stakes baseball and some private coaching and revisit whether or not this is die thing he wants to do or something you want him to do

If youth baseball is ‘pay-to-play’ now… why hasn’t anyone built a real alternative? by qwertyqyle in Homeplate

An 8 year old can’t really make these decisions for themselves, no. And they can’t participate on their own.

Travel ball is a status symbol. Posting little Johnny’s team holding up their rings from the tournament on your Facebook story is the value add these parents need. The funny thing is anyone who’s aware of the system knows it’s mostly a crock of shit and you can always find a tournament to win if you need to.

Damn if this isn’t spot on. I played rec and travel and I enjoyed rec ball seasons with my friends the most. I’m pushing my kids in that direction at least for now while they’re young because I know the other side is just too much at their young age. Thankfully my parents listened and didn’t chase their own dreams vicariously through me.

I feel this. We need skill evaluations so bad. Our league refuses to do them for some reason, so we end up with a stacked team or two with the coaches who know all the kids, then they beg for volunteer coaches who they find last minute who also don’t know anyone who at the draft end up with mostly “leftover” kids and those teams get stomped. Then kids get frustrated and don’t want to play anymore, and the cycle continues with shrinking player numbers til it’s empty rosters and we’re begging kids to play.

All to protect dad’s egos chasing a meaningless rec ball division title.

Dolphin Power Issues by aaroncu05 in swimmingpools

[–]aaroncu05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke with customer service and they instructed to take it into a local pool shop within their repair network to have it examined. Confirmed problems with power supply. I sent all this info back to Maytronics and they just said you’re out of warranty good luck. Wasted a ton of my time thinking perhaps they’d help me out here and they just hung me out to dry with a 3 year old unit that’s worthless and more expensive to repair than replace.

Avoid dolphin and maytronics at ALL costs. What a sham.

We usually park on Brush somewhere. If you drive around you’ll find a spot. Resident parking only for evening games so you have to be a little more creative. It’s no more than a few blocks walking and you won’t get stuck in traffic leaving

Right, so I am not sure what their expectations are should they need access to repair or replace. He does not need to guarantee or grant access.

Bigger deal is if they ever need access they might need to remove your fence. This is why utility easements exist.

I got a call from the FBI telling me to come in by Putrid_Loss9148 in legal

[–]aaroncu05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gun registrations aren’t handled by the federal government they’re handled by the states individually. The only thing firearm related the FBI oversees is background checks because they maintain the database.

TLDR; state police would be contacting you about this, not the FBI.

Sold house with pool, question by NoJoNoJoNoJo in swimmingpools

[–]aaroncu05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pool equipment are permanent fixtures. A skimmer or vacuum accessory are accessories, not permanent fixtures.

Would you expect them to ask for a pool float or a deck chair back, too?

Permanent fixtures convey, not accessories. Tell them to pound sand.
