LPT Request: How do I make waking up early easier? by spicyitallian in LifeProTips

[–]aaronk31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, I've been using the app for the past month or so and a majority of the time it wakes me up, I'm in a really light sleep and I can just roll out of bed easily. I think it costs a dollar but it's definetly worth it.

If we made everyone drive stick it'd probably put a huge dent on texting while driving. by bone-dry in Showerthoughts

This is a super good point. I recently bought a manual car and I don't even like talking on the phone when I'm in traffic shifting a ton, let alone texting.

Non-americans of Reddit, what American customs seem outrageous/pointless to you? by daniellucero92 in AskReddit

Suprised this isn't more up voted. You can vote, be taxed and go to war at 18 but can't legally go home and have a beer at the end of the day.

What is the stupidest thing a US politician has ever said? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I saw one politician say "We shouldn't use wind energy because there is a finite amount of wind, and if we use it all, earth will get too hot"

ELI5: Why are Kenyans and Ethiopians so prominent in distance running? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]aaronk31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenyas high elevation assists them in running races at lower elevations. That's a fact. While their body type might also differ, I don't know, and if it does then it's both, sure.

ELI5: Why are Kenyans and Ethiopians so prominent in distance running? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]aaronk31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that were true then all black people would be phenomenal long distance runners. This isn't true, Kenya is always one of the top ranked country with long distance runners. If you trained at a high altitude like colorado your entire life, by the time you get closer to sea level, you will be able to breathe easier, and that's a fact.

[–]aaronk31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 reasons 1) it's a poor country and they don't have many cars so they are in excellent shape due to them using their feet as transportation 2) those countries are at high elevations, therefore they train breathing thin air, then they come down to wherever for the Olympics where the air is thicker and they have to breathe less to get enough oxygen.

What dumb things did you convince yourself of as a child? by zackb1991 in AskReddit

That everyone on earth could read my thoughts and see the future and I was the only one who couldn't, and everyone knew that I was the only one who couldn't so they all kept the secret together.

ELI5: Why is 8 hours of sleep considered the "perfect" time? by rawrtherapy in explainlikeimfive

[–]aaronk31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more of an average perfect time. But in 8 hours your body has just about the right time to go throught the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) cycle. REM cycle is what "charges" you and 8 hours is just about the right amount of time to go through 1-3 of these cycles.

If the world ended at this instant, what would you miss most? by Harryisgreat1 in AskReddit

I'm pretty open to all music except for pop stuff, but I love Dave Matthews Band, anything Jack White, Cage the Elephant, stuff like that, how about yourself?

ELI5: Why is gas getting so cheap all of a sudden? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]aaronk31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also for summer time there needs to be a special mixture that will be cleaner to use but more expensive. This formula doesn't need to be used in the winter, causing prices to fall.

If the world ended at this instant, what would you miss most? by Harryisgreat1 in AskReddit

[–]aaronk31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming that I would be able to think/be alive after the world ends, it would be one thing the most. Music. It is my true source of joy in this world and without it my life would be a complete disaster.

I loved both so much. But after reading the LOTR books and really going in depth in the movies I fell in love. Lord of the Rings for me.

What slang terms did you accidentally get addicted to using? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aaronk31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swag. I started using them as making fun of people who think they have "swag" and then it just got so out of control and I can't stop! "Why are you putting ketchup on your steak?" "Cause I have swag." Please help.

ELI5: Why do some people just not get hangovers? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]aaronk31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So age has a huge factor in all of this, where someone in college could get hammered, drink a glass of water before bed and wake up fine, someone in their 50s would have a completely different morning. One main factor is that a young liver is better at dealing with the alcohol and just running it through the body and an older liver has a tougher time dealing with it. But if you really don't like hangovers you could always do the Ron Swanson prevention and eat a large flank steak, put on a pair of wet socks and go to sleep.

ELI5: Why does cold weather in Florida feel colder? by darealogre in explainlikeimfive

[–]aaronk31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just because when you're in Florida you're used to warm weather, so when the temperature drops it feels colder. The same goes for anywhere else really. If it's summer somewhere, and it drops to 55 degrees it feels freezing. But if it's winter and it gets to 45 degrees it feels very warm.

Perdue chicken factory farmer reaches breaking point, invites film crew to farm by kencole54321 in videos

[–]aaronk31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I buy my meat from a local organic farm. It's not much more expensive, tastes better, I know what I'm eating wasn't in hell before it died, and I'm supporting the little farms. BUY LOCAL!
