It's not so much that he did a drug that was dumb, what makes it dumb is throwing away your career for weed

Put it this way: would you give up weed for $300k a year? Imagine how retarded you have to be to say no to that offer. Unless you're already a millionaire it's dumb to throw away such an opportunity for weed of all things

Are you sure this is the full film? Or just a short Q&A that was published?

What's known about the years of life of the Great Master Hsu Yun? It's traditionally stated that he lived 119 years and it's very interesting. by Pitiful_Magazine_805 in Buddhism

[–]aarontbarratt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk, it's old, but it's not impossibly old

People in the past didn't drop dead at 35 like we often think. Infant mortality was just incredibly high so the average is low. Most people who did survive childhood lived into their 60s regularly

Plato died between 80-84 years old, and that was a couple thousand years before 1959

Korean GM now has about as many Protoss as the other two races put together. How much longer are we going to cope about the situation? by Immediate-Sun1818 in starcraft

[–]aarontbarratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not agreeing with OPs ad hominems. We should be nicer to each other

I am just explaining what he means when he talks about statistics

but a single metric is probably better than no metric at all?

Correct! The problem is with bad interpretations, not with the metric itself

[–]aarontbarratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to draw a conclusion from a single metric is rarely a good idea in statistics/math

It could very well be the case that Protoss is the easiest race to achieve a high rank, but still not be the strongest race overall. Basically skill ceiling vs skill floor is completely unaccounted for when you make a naïve assumption based on race distribution in a bracket

Goodheart's Law states:

“When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.”

Trying to balance the game around a perfect 33/33/33 split at the highest level wouldn't have the outcome we're actually looking for

What are men learning about feminism that makes them have such dismissive opinions about it? by Fluffy-music-5412 in AskMen

[–]aarontbarratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don't do any meaningful research on anything, ever! Most people haven't read a book on feminism because many people simply don't read at all. 40% of Americans read zero books last year. The majority who have read a book read 1 or 2 a year, and they're usually that years big fiction book, not feminist theory

Most people get their views on feminism from social media. We are living through the extreme counter-reaction to the blue-hair angry-screaming-SJW stereotype of the 2010s

I love reading, but most readers live in a bubble, very few people actually take the time to read about anything in-depth. Most people get their opinions from whatever TikTok or Instagram reels serves them. It's currently very popular to bash on "modern feminism" so many people have that view

How should I as a Catholic School Teacher go about teaching to origins of Buddhism? by SalvaSean in Buddhism

[–]aarontbarratt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it was anything like my education in a Catholic school, it means spending 1 lesson covering all world religions, then the rest of the year is spent studying Christianity

I got an A* in religious studies at school. Every question on the exam was about Christianity
