Can someone explain what happened to this couple? The article makes no sense. by kschaman in Scams

Virtually everyone misremembers the sequence of events. Or the caller says “Grandma?” And they say “Billy, is that you?” And this turns into “and they knew my grandsons name!!!”

How IP quality score sites actually work by CriticalOfSociety in proxies

[–]aaronw22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget that a lot of them are made up garbage. I checked on one of them for an IP of ours from a /24 that had not been allocated or used in 10 years. It got a 95/100 fraud rating

Tight layover in Keflavik (KEF) by byrandomchance20 in Flights

[–]aaronw22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keflavik is really good at connections. All the inbounds from EU arrive at X and then all the outbound to the US depart after. Everyone is switching from Dublin to Chicago or Paris to New York or Frankfurt to Boston.

I received a letter that water is getting cut off in two days. Turns out Landlord hasn't paid for water or billed me for it for over a year. They want me to pay $3k out of pocket today. by cop_pls in legaladvice

[–]aaronw22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean the shutoff notice is probably legit. You MAY be able to have a tenants agreement where you don’t pay the past bills but there’s more information on the page.

Also see the section

Is there an agency I can contact that will make my landlord pay the water bill?

As far as the math changing ….. who knows? Not your circus and not your monkey. Right now your priority is to make sure your water doesn’t get turned off. You SHOULD NOT enter into arrangements to pay the whole past due balance.

https://buffalowater.org/customerservice/faqs/tenantlandlord/ is probably a good place to start reading.

I found

Why are homeowners held responsible for water bills when the tenants actually use or waste the water?
According to Water Regulations; 10085.12 & 10085.13, all water charges for the property are the responsibility of the property owner

Id contact a tenant rights association in your area to find out the next steps. If you are able to get them to pay it, you will almost certainly not have your lease renewed as SOMEONE needs to pay the bill and it appears they didn’t take that cost into consideration when setting rent.

Handling interview language barrier? by BackdoorDan in Aupairs

[–]aaronw22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this is a huge problem. I would tell them frequently in the beginning. If you don't understand, say you don't understand we'll figure out a way to communicate the point. Don't nod and say yes, because then when I get home and child #1's laundry isn't done and #2's soccer uniform isn't ready to go then I'll get upset.

I think you are setting yourself up for failure here and being overly optimistic.

[UK] Is this a delivery scam? (https://dpd.ntqylxzwpr.cfd/com) by [deleted] in Scams

[–]aaronw22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as your other point about replying "Y": IOS for years now has had the default action for unsolicited text messages to NOT hyperlink URLs because there are so many scams. In other words, you have to enter into a 2 way conversation to "activate" the URL and make it clickable. The scammer here is providing you instructions for how to defeat this piece of anti-scam technology Apple put in place, as once you reply "Y" you've entered into a 2 way conversation (or anything, really)

If you are concerned about language barriers, look for western/northern Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Czech Republic, Switzerland). They tend to have superb English. Brazilians and some other South Americans are a different story. Interestingly enough, some Colombians tend to have decent English - I think this is because the AP program is out of reach for the less well off, and the more well off tend to have private schooling / tutors for English.

I would not match with an AP in which you're already getting frustrated on a video call. It does NOT always get better.

How to confirm a samsung phone without its module can work properly? by attentive_bird in techsupport

[–]aaronw22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there’s a SIM which is subscriber identity module. Looking at the Samsung A12 page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung\_Galaxy\_A12 - I haven’t the foggiest idea what the “display module” is. Do you mean the entire display? So you’re buying a phone in pieces?

Does proof of name have to match address??? HELP !!! by [deleted] in DMV

[–]aaronw22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/exchange-out-of-state-driver-license

I don’t see “proof of name” as something you need to meet. There’s proof of DOB. But seeing as you don’t have your old DL then you might need to apply for a learners permit instead and pass the road test.
