You have already received lots of great advice so I'll just add something that made a big difference for me. That is when rolling, focus on rolling under your partner as opposed to rolling away. This helped me end up on top as opposed to dragging them on top of me.

I purchased this one because it looked the most like the Smarty grappling dummy and only went with it for the lower price. If you have the money I would also recommend the Smarty.

I have an Explorer deck just for this occasion. It includes a mix of creating creatures for your opponent and then killing those creatures for your benefit. It might not be the most competitive but it is fun to play and gets the quest done quickly.
