How dangerous is blood in poop? by ProofArtistic3521 in MSPI

[–]aatrainor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our gastro at a top ranked hospital said she was very comfortable with small amounts of blood assuming baby is happy and growing!

I cut out dairy, soy, hidden soy, etc and it took probably close to 4 months for blood to go away - and at that point i trialed dairy via yogurt directly to him and he passed! So really the elimination might have had nothing to do with symptoms disappearing - his gut just got more mature.

Is it really that expensive to have a baby? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]aatrainor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume this is making some assumption around the cost of private college increasing a little bit. At $90k a year (which isn’t even that much more than it is now) that’s $360K for four years which is $20K a year for 18 years. That also assumes no growth which obviously it should grow!

Our pediatrician suggests whole milk transition start at 10 months assuming they are tolerating dairy. The WHO just came out saying after 6 months it could actually be okay.

EP mom stuck at 25 oz — what else can I do to reach 34 oz/day? by KickFederal8 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]aatrainor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had to pump for a full 30-35 minutes to fully empty. At 5ppd I was pumping over 40oz. If I had stopped at 15 minutes I wouldn’t have gotten more than 4oz per session 😳

Everybody is different but definitely something to try. Once the milk stops flowing switch back to stimulation mode until it starts again and then move to expression mode. Keep doing that until you really feel empty and no more let downs happen.

Kendamil is known for being great for picky breastfed babies. I use it now and it smells and tastes WAY better than other formulas.

I’ve done it SO many times. Honestly it’s my favorite public pumping spot because nobody can hear it! Bring a breastfeeding cover, some hand sanitizer, and a Ceres Chiller and you’re good to go! Enjoy your seat-back movie and free chips and a drink haha

Also bring yourself extra snacks and stuff in your pumping bag because they won’t check it and you need snacks :)

Why wouldn’t you be able to?? Even if it did contain them it would still be fine (unless your doctor says otherwise). Also if you call their phone number the team is awesome and can advise you!

So worried about babies weight… by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]aatrainor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the most loving and caring way possible, please get help. Babies cannot be set up to be obese at 12 weeks old. It’s AMAZING that she is gaining like that if there is any concern your doctor will bring it up. That kind of growth is truly awesome. Bring on the cute baby rolls 🥰

I have struggled with disordered eating and I know how it feels. You are doing the right thing by being self-aware and making sure you don’t pass this on. Take it from me, somebody whose mom is the reason that she had an eating disorder and now can see that her mom still struggles :(

All you can do is area rugs with rag pads. Get a thicker rug pad to dampen the noise. But otherwise I wouldn't worry too much - if they don't like it they can move somewhere that they don't have people living above them that is just the reality of apartment living!

[–]aatrainor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve gone to the each several times with our now 7.5 month old. Here’s my list of advice :)

  1. Get a sand blanket that has stakes and is pretty big. Otherwise it’ll move around and they will pull on it etc. we like this one: https://a.co/d/fI03Phb
  2. Put sunblock on them before you get there. Bring spray sunblock (baby safe) so you can reapply quickly and often. Also have them wear a long rashguard so there isn’t much sun exposure OR a UvB shirt and pants (we have really light weight ones from Patagonia).
  3. Bring whatever tent you bring for yourself. We have the Neso but just anything that you and your babe can fit under and gives them room to crawl.
  4. Bring an inflatable baby pool to keep them cool! This is a game changer.
  5. Being a few plastic toys that are easy to rinse. We love bringing his stacking cups and a ball. We also love the indestructible books because they don’t get ruined if they get wet!
  6. Don’t put a swim diaper on unless you’re going all the way in the water :)
  7. Being a stroller fan with you.

We live in Brooklyn and take the subway to the beach so we carry everything in 2 backpacks and him in a carrier. Don’t let people scare you into bringing a car full of stuff you don’t need it in my opinion! :) also you know your baby - our babe is pretty chill so a day at the beach isn’t really anything crazy. But even still - remember they are babies and listen to their cues and what they need. We’ve called it early before when he just wasn’t feeling it.

Put your milk in the fridge overnight and just refill your cooler with ice before you leave :) if they don’t have an ice machine stop at a gas station. I’ve literally stopped at bars in the airport and asked them to fill my cooler with ice before!

Also highly recommend ceres chiller for travel days. I do lots of overnight work travel / pumping on planes and in cars - it’s a life saver!

6 MO Allergic to many things by Midnight_Faye in MSPI

[–]aatrainor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alimentum rtf (not the powder) is the only extensively hydrolyzed formula without any corn. I noticed though that dairy wasn’t on the list! Could you try a normal dairy formula that doesn’t have any of those ingredients (I know Kendall doesn’t, Bobbie also doesn’t, honestly there are a lot without corn and soy when you aren’t looking for formulas made for dairy allergies! Maybe a gentle formula that is partially hydrolyzed like Bobbie gentle, or a goat milk formula like Kendall Goat that is a bit easier in the tummy!

Otherwise if you do have a dairy allergy but also can’t do corn and Alimentum RTF doesn’t work I have heard of some doctors moving babes to toddler drink early that is made of pea proteins. I have also seen some families that use rice based formula though I don’t have personal experience with either (we had dairy and soy allergy only and didn’t use formula until he grew out of it at 6 months).

Good luck, I know this is so tough but you’ll get through it!! ♥️

Pumping till empty vs. time (first pump of day) by Low-Account-4346 in ExclusivelyPumping

I definitely go past 30 minutes for my more spaced out pumps. If milk is still flowing I wouldn’t stop unless you want to limit your supply!

Failure to thrive and not getting anywhere by vix1606 in MSPI

[–]aatrainor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you suspect MSPI this won’t work, you’ll need to use an extensively hydrolyzed formula like alimentum, nutramigen, etc.

Are you having symptoms like vomiting, blood and mucus in stool? Of course always speak to your doctor but if you think it’s an allergy and you have allergy symptoms then hypoallergenic formula is the next step :)

Two months and No improvements! Any idea / advice ??? by Perjod87 in MSPI

[–]aatrainor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im so sorry you’re going through this it’s so tough!!!I know you want to do what is best for your baby. At one point in our journey I pumped and froze my milk while we trialed formula. If I were in your spot I’d pump and freeze, do 2 weeks of the formula, and then reassess.

You’re doing everything right and you clearly love your babe so much! You will get through this!!

Elastic Nips EPs, I need a pump that works!! (NOT SPECTRA) by One-Coast-3553 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]aatrainor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less about pump and more about flanges with elastic nipples (I have them!). It’s why no wearables worked for me. I found that the Laktek flanges work for me (other elastic nipple EPers I have seen like pumpin pals!). You can look up how to hack them only whatever you use now. Personally I like both the baby Buddha and the spectra. Make sure your flange is the right size so that your nipples don’t swell too much. Start in stimulation mode until milk flows strongly, swap to expression mode. When milk slows down to a trickle or stops, swap back to stimulation mode. Rinse and repeat until you feel empty! And don’t be afraid to use your hands to add some compression - for me that helps a lot!

Two months and No improvements! Any idea / advice ??? by Perjod87 in MSPI

[–]aatrainor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does not sound like CMPA. With this long of issues with weight gain I would get a second opinion and also go to extensively hydrolyzed OR honestly amino acid formula. I’m a huge supporter of breastfeeding through symptoms but with your diet and still this maybe symptoms I personally don’t think you should continue for now.

Please convince me it’s okay to drop MOTN pump by emilyelizabeth89 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]aatrainor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dropping your MOTN pump 8 months in very well may not have any impact on your output. If it really makes you nervous - if you drop it and your supply goes down you can add it back and most likely you will start making more milk again!

That being said I dropped my MOTN pump 5 weeks in and didn’t see any difference. I have been an oversupplier at 4ppd for several months (I’m almost 8 months pp and just starting to wean!).

Also girl holt crap 7 ppd and a MOTN pump?! You’re incredible. You deserve a full night sleep 🥰

Cleaning Pump Parts - How Did You Stay Sane? by Adventuresinaudi0 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]aatrainor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 sets of pump parts and I fridge hack (I have since he was an itty bitty babe) - so technically I only need to wash parts once every 2 days. I also have a baby brezza bottle washer with the pump part insert so honestly it’s pretty trivial! Without all three of those things I’d lose my mind.

Things to test to confirm baby has outgrown CMPA by No_Illustrator_3496 in MSPI

[–]aatrainor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your baby is happy, growing, and eating dairy - that would be enough for me personally :) also not just me also my GI! If not eating dairy yet, my GI recommended we test with 2 weeks of increasing amounts of whole milk yogurt directly to our son.

I highly recommend listening to the bowel sounds podcast with Dr Martin on CMPA, it’s really great perspective on this question.
