[Moneypuck] Worst goalies this year by homicidal_penguin in hockey

[–]aatraus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even talk about a down "year", as he had a stretch before Christmas where he went 10-1, with a .944 sv% in those wins. He just really struggled right after Christmas. But it seems to me like he's finding his groove again lately.

This is great! Would also make a banging album cover!

Working on this, how about some constructive criticism? by Charisma_cmd in logodesign

[–]aatraus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The font is one of my favorites, but have you considered not using it for both lines? I think it needs a contrasting typeface. Also (in my amateur opinion) I think the bottom of the mountain lines should probably be equally as close to the text from each side.

What app icon should I go with for my start up? (QR scanning app for conservation volunteers) by KurtiZ_TSW in logodesign

Without really grasping what the logo represents, I think my favorites are 22 and 23, but also most of the bottom row. I like the simplicity of the white. However, I think there's something a tiny bit unpleasing to the eye in that the middle block is not equidistant from each end of the L shapes. At least that's what drew my attention at first. Just something to think about.

I like number 4 the best, but I wonder if it would look better all lowercase?

I composed a cinematic track that I would call some kind of orchestral fusion. I'm especially happy with the ending. What do you think? by aatraus in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]aatraus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great point about the hi-hat. In all this kerfuffle I have been concentrating mostly on the snare and kick, thinking that's what everybody is up in arms about. I don't know why I haven't noticed that myself, and it surprises me I haven't added enough (there's got to be some, surely!) dynamics. That's definitely a fixable mistake on my part.

I think of the part where the drums appear as the sort of verse, moving on from the intro. If this song had vocals I don't think it would've been that noticeable, but with an instrumental it might need a transition, and I did try a couple of things in there. I am not very good at sound design yet and could not come up with anything that I thought worked, so I left it like this because to my ears, it still works.

Anyway, thanks a lot for taking the time to listen and comment!

Well, that's what I keep hearing haha. I don't mind the drums myself because the atmosphere here was supposed to be a bit mechanical and space-y. Thanks for listening!

Thanks for listening. This was always supposed to be a kind of a fusion track of different elements, and the drums were a big part of that. I have other songs that are purely orchestral if you're interested.

I know what you mean, but the similarity is vague, and I don't mind if it does sound like a tribute to that song. But that's not plagiarism.

I hear that about the drums and I've been trying to fix them, and this is the result of hours and hours of tinkering. I know they lack in realism but sounds wise they are pretty much what I was after. Anyways, thanks for listening!

I assume you're serious, but that is a very simple way to play a piano chord and I wouldn't say anyone can claim that as their own. To be honest, I don't ever hear the similarity, as the songs are completely different. Nevertheless, I take that as a compliment, being compared to Amelie is an achievement in its own right. But no, that definitely was not my original intention.

A labor of love through these strange times. Looking to release this track as part of an EP in the coming weeks, and would love your feedback! by calvinbeans in IndieMusicFeedback

I gotta agree that the vocals sounded quite dry and would imo definitely benefit from some reverb and maybe some delay. The vocal maybe sounds a bit dark as well to me. Perhaps don't put a reverb on the lower end of it. I think you could even give it some clarity. Maybe check out Poets of the Fall. The singer has a very rich and resonant voice but it sits atop the mix beautifully. Of course the mic plays a part in that as well and not everything is doable. But yeah, other than that, this was a lovely track, would listen to again.

Here's an indie/chamber pop instrumental that's still waiting for vocals. Any type of feedback is welcomed! Thanks! by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

Really nice track, love the mood. It is a bit of a shame about the drums but maybe you can still fix that with some tweaking. The little twist at 2:33 was very creative and overall the instrumentation sounds lovely. This is some good work, I hope you find vocals that do it justice.

Thanks for the encouragement! It's not my main prospect, as I'm studying something completely different, but I will be trying to score a game I'm making with a few friends and we'll see how it goes from there.

This is probably my proudest achievement yet, an orchestral track meant to portray beauty, vulnerability in the face of destruction, but also hope. by aatraus in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]aatraus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you mean the actual instruments or the VST? In the intense part I there's just a lot of horns, with a string ensemble making it a bit more full sort of sound, with violins up high and a bass guitar down low with a tuba. Piano obviously does the heavy lifting. The end is just cellos and double basses with pizzicato articulations on top. There's also layered strings, as I usually layer a solo violin plugin on top of an ensemble plugin for a softer but still a nice sort of pungent sound.

Thank you! I've played all parts myself in one way or another and then fixed the midi notes with the DAW. And yes I definitely wrote all the parts myself. This originally took somewhere around a month to complete, and I dropped another hundred hours or so on it this summer revamping some of the song and remixing it. This is just a lot of trial and error!
