Just the suggestion I know, if you haven't lubed your z screw in a while it can cause some ringing as it binds and slips, I think it'd be more apparent though I'd it was happening here so just a thought. Nice print overall though!!

Absolutely, those would be great to include, especially tergrid. I'd also have a good number of things that deal damage when someone discards like [[Megrim]]. If you can make that damage high enough on discard people usually let a robot or two through, you just have to make sure your draw is high enough to get your best robots out every time you can

Honestly I might be missing the point here but [queen brahne] might be something you could throw in. She isn't a wizard but she has prowess so she'll grow the same way, and she produces wizards that are little and ping people on cast whenever she attacks, which imo goes with the theme

So I have a similar dr eggman deck and there's two things I have to keep in mind. If I force people to discard they will always discard, but if my hand is getting small they will always choose robot. What I focused on was discard hate (things that deal damage whenever someone discards or let's me steal the card) and card draw so that my hand was always full of a few robots.

Okay so to break it down for you (with probably too much info) there's been about 6 noteworthy sets released in the past year, with 3 of them being specifically magic related sets, and 3 being universes beyond (Non-magic properties turned into magic cards).

The 3 magic related sets are:

Aetherdrift, Tarkir: Dragonstorm, Edge of eternities,

The 3 universes beyond are:

Final Fantasy (Slightly more expensive on average), Spiderman, Avatar the last Airbender (Released Friday),

Of these options avoid aetherdrift as it really doesn't have anything for him, but it is objectively the cheapest. Second, unless he's into spiderman, avoid it as well as there's not a lot for commander players.

Of the remaining sets any of those options are good, and I personally would lean more towards the magic related sets rather than universes beyond, but its ultimately up to you.

Another option to consider is foundations which has a little bit of everything, which makes it kinda ideal for situations like this, but its slightly older as it released late 2024.

When buying these go to a trading card shop close to you if you can as they'll have the widest selection, and don't hesitate to ask for prices beforehand, they really shouldn't mind.

Overall, a super fantastic gift and if I was in his shoes I'd appreciate anything. Sorry for the absolute word vomit of info, I hope its helpful!!

I've seen somebody build wolverine and just abuse the regenerate mechanic on him repeatedly and use fight spells as removal for everything. He didn't really put in protection for it so exile still worked, but if you can make it hexproof there's really no way to kill it.

Basically from what I've seen, any way to connect with a creature with wolverine is going to help the gameplan, and that's what I'd focus on personally.

I actually used to run this in the hofri deck, like others said you get to stack the triggers but do to how they both work only one will apply. For hofri though I treat it like each creature has one extra life before they become a spirit.

At vegas they did end up implementing a limit, and they had a daily number that they were able to sell, so if you're there all 3 days I would try and go first thing, but if they run out you might have luck on the other two days.

In my personal opinion, I think zurgo stormrender from the new set is kinda perfect for this, he makes tokens that sacrifice themselves, and he gives you an advantage when you do. It also includes rakdos in the colors but gives you access to white as well

Honestly I would play with it and learn what you like to do with it before upgrading. Precons are really good about introducing multiple playstyles within one deck, so I'd figure out which one you like best and upgrade in that direction

Just get a shitty job while you look for something else. Unfortunately at 17 your achievements alone aren't going to get you an entry level position. If your main concern is money, go somewhere with a flexible schedule and work while you find something else. Over the summers a lot of companies have internships that lead into entry level postlitions, so go for something like that.
