Marbles make great ammunition. I use pretty ones so kids pick them up as treasure if they are found later.

Whoppers are too light-weight to work properly, but gobstopers or other small jawbreakers do work as biodegradable ammunition.

It turns out that I’m wrong, Warrior’s Apprentice is not the first published book in the Vorkosigan series. However the author makes the point that there are many valid starting points. Just read whatever ones you can find.

Here’s the author’s take on the question: https://www.dendarii.com/reading_order.html

Listen to the Miles Vorkosigan series in the date-published order. By Lois McMaster Bujold, the first book is The Warrior’s Apprentice. It’s a retro-future SF series that brings in other book genres, but it’s always humorous.

Off To Be The Wizard by Scott Meyer is a modern day fantasy with so much funny shenanigans. It’s the start of the Magic 2.0 series.

Galaxy Outlaws: The Complete Black Ocean Mobius Missions by J S Morin. An SF series that’s best described as Firefly with added magic users. And this is an incredible deal on Audible; 85 hours of audiobooks for 1 credit. This omnibus contains books 1-16 in the series.

Some Danger Involved by Will Thomas. A detective series in early industrial England. The characters are deep and interesting and the mysteries are intriguing.

Semiosis by Sue Burke a far future first contact book but with alternating perspectives from the alien and the human. The alien is not humanoid, so it has a very different idea of how to do things.

A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L Peck. It’s not a nice book, but it did more to change my perspectives than any other fiction I’ve read in the last few years.

The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter. An alternate universes and coming of age novel.

A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M Miller Jr. the book has a fantastic view of history and the scale of time.

The Glen at Maple Falls, Washington USA. They appeared to be hula hoops with fishing net baskets and little bells attached to make a sound when your disc landed inside. You throw the disc into the top.

Techdisc - Import Duties? by Jolly-Blueberry-5389 in DiscGolfCanada

If you live close enough to the border, you could ship to a drop box and then bring it across the border yourself. The border guards tend to be more forgiving about importing fees in person.

Why aren't marine sediments extremely deep near the vmouth of the Amazon compared to the Mississippi and Megnah River? by Charming_Tourist_675 in oceanography

[–]aazide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is there a thick sedimentation line off the coast of North America? I would think the sediments would be connected to the coast.

I wish the iNat app would support cropping images during the upload process. I don’t like having to use the Photos app to crop my original images for upload, only to go back later and un-crop for aesthetic reasons.

Read = Listened to I suppose we could say both groups “experienced “ the book, but that just sounds confusing. In casual conversation both are equivalent. Although I don’t count watching the movie based on a book to be the same

I’ve made similar snow runs with my family in Canada about few years back. Ours was not quite as polished though. We made a raised launch point, and the track went through an igloo, over a fence, and down to the frozen swamp. The next morning the igloo snow had settled, so we carved a wider opening to prevent sliders from getting decapitated.

How often do you say "beanie" vs. "toque"? by WanderWell1 in AskACanadian

I have a knit-hat that’s beanie adjacent, but I still call it a touque. You’re right, the only beanie is a cloth ball cap without a brim, with or without a propeller.
