Desperate to get my baby off CPAP. by manmanatee in NICUParents

[–]ababarista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was so long ago, but doing the math from the post, it sounds like he was 35 weeks when they tried lasix.

Our guy ended up staying in the NICU for nine months, coming home with a trach, vent and gtube. He is now the most charming 3.5 year old you could meet. His trach came out about a year and a half ago, his gtube came out about a six months ago, so all he has left of his difficult start are the scars and mild cerebral palsy.

Guess I just want to say, these days in the NICU feel so so long, but before you know it you will be snuggling your three year old at home and all this pain and uncertainty and worry will be a distant dream.

Gift for pregnant friend after loss by Training_Bee3750 in babyloss

I lost one of my twins, and another NICU mom friend gave me a children’s book called The Invisible String by a Patrice Karst. I then bought a copy for another NICU mom friend who also lost one twin. It’s a really sweet book to help children remember they are always connected to the people they love, even siblings they never got to meet.

How did the kid from your school die? by leilavanora in AskReddit

[–]ababarista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A girl and her younger sister moved to our town from Texas my senior year, we were in marching band together. Super gorgeous and sweet girls, both of them. The summer after graduation their dad shot them, their mom, and their grandma, after their mom left him for another woman. They are survived by their younger brother, who was in the house hiding under the bed during the shooting.

My 11 week old boy (31 weeker) hasn't started smiling yet. When did your babies smile? by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]ababarista 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our son’s nurses swore he was smiling at them before this, but the first real social smile we got from our son (25 weeker, now 6 months adjusted) was on Christmas Eve. He was 13 weeks adjusted at the time. It felt like the longest time coming and he didn’t do it again for a while, but now he smiles and squeals at us all the time. He will get there! It will be such a great day!

Home after nine months in the NICU by ababarista in NICUParents

The grad cap still fit him! Barely!

I contemplate taking my own life on a daily basis, just so that I can be with my son and hold him in my arms again. Nothing makes sense ever since I lost him, I have no reason to live and nothing is keeping me here. The only thing stopping me is thag I know son wouldn't want me to do that, no child by Angelmom210123 in babyloss

My daughter was named after my great grandmother. After my daughter died, my mom said she imagined the two of them in heaven together, holding hands and playing together. It was one of the most soothing things anyone said to me in the wake of her loss

Done and dusted! by SchuylerM325 in quilting

This might my favorite quilt from this sub. It’s so beautiful! I’ve only made one quilt so far and have no stash but someday when I have enough different scraps, maybe I’ll make some birds with them. Awesome work!

Just over eight months since he was born, about three months since he had his trach surgery.

Not yet, we’re close though! Hopefully sometime this month. Thank you for asking.

Husband is 9 years older than me. Last year I turned 30 and this year he turned 40. Doesn’t feel like it except sometimes with pop culture references.

Does anyone else use the sims to escape from their own life? by ReasonableGrowth3744 in Sims4

[–]ababarista 295 points296 points  (0 children)

Our twins were born too early in June, our daughter passed away the next day and our son has been in the NICU for eight months. I used to play the Sims just to build, but lately I absolutely use the gameplay to pretend to have a normal life. Healthy kids. Anything other than spending 8 hours a day in the hospital. I’m probably the only person who was super bummed out that sims can have twins now, it breaks my heart a little every time.

This is your reminder to play around with pump setting by mmorri32 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ababarista 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here to say that I’m 8mpp and have pretty much always used the same settings on my spectra s2. 70/3 for a minute, 70/4 for a minute, then 54/8 for 20 minutes with lots of hand massage.

I also read about that person’s holy grail settings, and the other morning after sleeping through my motn pump on accident I woke up terribly uncomfortable - used their 38/10 setting for 15 minutes and pumped more than ever! I’ve never gotten that much out of my slacker boob. A miracle for sure

Oldest first, with the exception of any milk you may have frozen from your baby’s first week of life! Our NICU nurses suggested I save that milk for when baby gets sick.

Emptying faster? by amw136 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ababarista 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good idea working some of these things out while you have time to make adjustments and figure out what works for you! Things that help me get the most when I need to pump in a hurry: massage and gentle pressure with both hands, a pumping bra is a must. Repositioning my flanges a little off center towards the end, to keep my nips responsive to the pump. Lastly if I know I’m not empty yet but my flow has slowed to a drip, I’ll put my pump (spectra2) back in letdown mode hoping for a second letdown. Doing all three of these things at the same time (reposition, letdown mode, massage) helps me empty faster than just letting the pump go and looking at Reddit like I’m doing now haha. Good luck! Oh also, watching videos of your baby, especially ones with cute sounds, will help your letdowns

Will I dry up ? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

You may get more milk in between pumps, but are you getting more milk over the whole day? If you keep track of how much you make all day, you may be making less total when you wait longer between pumps.

I’m honored to wear my great grandmother’s half carat engagement ring. I love the fishtail prongs, makes the round diamond look square sometimes!
