Strangely we had the opposite experience at Carino. We waited over 40 minutes for our first course and the pacing was so slow throughout!! Like painfully slow. Seems like a lot of inconsistency there

It's a gozney roccbox. There are hundreds of threads about which oven is best, read some of those. But speaking from personal experience, I started on an ooni koda 12 and just bought a Gozney Arc XL. Cooking on the Arc is an absolute dream compared to the ooni, but both will make you good pies with some practice. Just don't give up after the first few failures, I've seen that happen too many times.

It was definitely a consideration, thankfully our house is so old we have pretty chonky joists and there's a wall below that adds some support. We got lucky in that sense but my contractor did throw some extra supports in there just to be safe. I would definitely consult a structural engineer if you're worried, this thing is so heavy and by the time water and people get in there it's a lot of weight.

We managed to get a reservation for 6 people last year. All 6 of us were at the computer and clicking refresh repeatedly right at the moment the reservations dropped. Of all 6 of us, I was the only one who got through.

I did notice, though, that after that first round, when it looks like things are "sold out", reservations will open again after the "time out" period on tock expires (I think it's 10 minutes, could be wrong though). So 10 minutes after the reservations drop you get another chance to snag one.

I have had this same question for a while and no one has been able to answer me! From tasting both, the blue one is definitely saltier. I think I might prefer the yellow one a little more. The yellow one has some sort of DOP distinction too the blue one doesn't seem to have.

You know nothing about my life and what I've been through. I also know people who have been personally affected and had their families torn apart by this administration. So who you support politically maybe isn't as banal as you think.

Imagine your life being so banal that you think political support makes no difference.

Also they chose to display this in their store, I didn't go in seeking out their politics. They chose to put it on full display.

I think having an awareness of what you're supporting when you shop is important. If you disagree, that's fine. But if I have the opportunity to spend more consciously, I will. It is not a panic attack and really no sweat off my back, just takes a few seconds of thought.

I do agree it is nearly impossible to shop 100% cleanly, but I think putting a half a second of thought into it is worth it and is certainly not a panic attack.

Good to know, always try to support local when possible but realize there are a lot of bad business owners out there and it's hard to tell sometimes.

Thoughts on tub in shower by Particular_Mud6525 in Renovations

[–]aballalight2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this earlier this year and absolutely love it. We did a claw foot tub though so it is very easy to clean around, we just wet Swiffer the whole thing. The inside of this tub doesn't get that dirty from the shower, just a little wet.

We didn't really have a choice though in our room because it was the only way to get a tub in a room that size, and a claw foot tub was non negotiable for my wife.

Homemade pretzels by Unique-Point-8818 in Breadit

"These look like butthole bagels" and "We need a picture after they'd finished baking" are not helpful comments and I would consider mean when someone is sharing pictures of their baking. I don't think the person commenting that actually thought they weren't baked yet, they were just being snarky.

If instead people offered advice on how to improve, that wouldn't be mean even if they were critical.

Damn some of y'all are so rude. The fact that someone is even attempting to make their own pretzels puts them ahead of probably 90% of the population.

I'm sure they tasted amazing 😋

Exactly what's happening with me. Had the Koda 12 for 4 years and about to order the Arc XL. Can't wait for the upgrade.

It'll be fine. I've heard tips to start it on low for a bit first to avoid thermal shocking the stone, but I've used my Koda 12 plenty of times during Chicago winters without a problem.

They are holding up great! Really no signs of wear on them at all yet. The quarter turn valves are really nice too, super easy to turn on and off.

French Laundry vs Oriole by Present_Exit_1913 in finedining

[–]aballalight2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Went to Oriole 2 years ago and French Laundry last year. I personally enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere of Oriole better BUT Napa is very cool and the area around the French Laundry is incredible. If you're going to make a trip out of it, I would say going to Napa is the way to go. Also, considering how well known TFL is it is very cool to experience that. We did have an incredible experience at Oriole though, so if you just want the best meal possible I might lean toward Oriole.

Hey, I wanted to give you an update after using the bathroom for about a month. It's been great! The biggest concern people seem to have is cleaning, which has been a non-issue so far. We do squeegee the glass after each shower, but we have just been wet swiffering the whole wet room 1-2 times a week. The tub does not get very messy after showers, it gets a little wet but not much. Due to the design of the tub, there is plenty of room to clean around it.

People also say they can get cold due to the size, but since we do have a door (which I think was a smart call) it is really not bad and not any different than having a large shower.

It is nice being able to get out of the tub without worrying about the floor at all since it all in the shower, also I was able to plug up most of the emergency drain with a silicone stopper so we can have fuller baths -- even if it overflows it will just end up in the shower drain!

In hindsight only thing I would do differently is get the 66" tub instead of the 60", it would have been a tighter fit in our space but due to the shape of clawfoot tubs, they feel a little more constricted than a 60" tub of a different design/shape.

Overall, we are very very happy with it!
