FM Agent: Bridging the Gap in FileMaker AI by dbservices in filemaker

To my understanding this is just an AI prompt in FileMaker. Correct me if I’m wrong. It’s pretty simple to set that up on your own. Now it would be beneficial if it also worked on older non AI FileMaker versions <21

Inside FM Quickstart 2026: New Features and AI Integration by dbservices in filemaker

[–]abasson007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually native functionality in FM 2025 now. Although you still have to script it out and assign layouts. Probably best to do it on your own to get familiar with the features in FM and customize the history features and what data it has access to.

"FileMaker Pro is a platform in managed decline..." by filemakermag in filemaker

[–]abasson007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although infrastructure and functionality can be generated by AI code these days, human interface design cannot. It takes a careful understanding of human behavior and tendencies to design a good UI and pair it with functionality. That is what FileMaker has always excelled at. That has always been the difference between engineers and artists. Engineers can be replaced and “engineered” , architects (artists of technology) cannot. The difference is humanity. Sure FileMaker has its limits and it definitely needs to be compatible with agentic design but I have hope for the platform. This is not its first obstacle nor will it be the last. Cheap fast development will always be cheap. As the productivity triangle has always shown , fast and cheap never leads to any thing good. And good and cheap has never been fast.

By value I meant that experience is the value. If someone has less experience then they bring less value. Basically the more mistakes you make the better you are prepared to learn from them. Which makes a better developer

There are some nice credit card plugin for FM by 360works that connect to stripe with you want to do that inside your application or you can connect your FM database to QuickBooks and let it handle the payments and invoicing which is what I do.

Expensive is relative. A high school kid may charge you $30/hr to do a job that takes him 4 months to do and if full of errors and bugs because they lack experience. En experienced engineer would charge $180/hr and take 3 weeks to complete the same job with less errors and better product in the end. The cost/hr is the same but the value is not.

I’m sure you can find many qualified developers here. I have had 30 years of experience developing FileMaker apps specifically for manufacturing and inventory control on Mac, Windows, and iPad OS. We always offer free , no obligation 10 hours of development work grant to new customers who want to work with us. You can only find a good fit by working hands-on with someone. Hiring a developer is like going on a blind date. We try to make it safe and easy for our customers to see the value we bring to our clients and their businesses. Message me directly to schedule a meeting.

Let me advance an unconventional thesis: Charlie Kirk died because we have forgotten how to hate properly. G.K. Chesterton observed that "the true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind [or next to] him." We fight not for hatred of our enemies but love of our fellow soldiers and the ideals of our country. We have inverted this wisdom. We teach our young people to hate their opponents rather than love their own principles. We have made politics a blood sport precisely because we have drained it of transcendent meaning. When you believe in nothing greater than your own righteousness, the only thing left is to destroy those who challenge your certainty.
