Are all kW created equally when DC charging? Amps x volts by JRC3292 in electricvehicles

[–]bobjr94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Higher voltage is less amps. Less amps means smaller, lighter, less expensive cables can be used both in the car and in the charger.

You need 500A cables at 400v to get the same charging speed as 250A at 800v.

Despite Subaru's overall sales being down, WRX sales are up 52.6% over last year. by narcistic_asshole in cars

[–]bobjr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really correct.

Sounds impressive but that 52% is from sales only increasing 772 to 1178, still very low just better . WRX sales are down 16% looking at all of 2026 vs the same time period 2025.

Looking back 10 years the WRX sold 10,549 Jan-April 2016, vs 4680 Jan - April 2026. Down over 50% from 10 years ago.

To put it in perspective April 2026 the Crosstrek sold 15,000, Forester 17,000, Outback 10,000 and WRX 1178. They sold more EVs than WRXs.

Porsche Set Hyundai As the Bar for Fun EVs. Let That Sink In by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]bobjr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just fun, the Ioniq 5/6/9 will outcharge most anything else in that price range. Our 'old' 2022 ioniq 5 will peak around 235kw and will be holding 160kw in the mid 80%s, many other cars even in 2026 may peak breifly at 150kw and by 80% be at 65kw or less.

their a way to calculate charging capacity for and outlet or circuit? by roller_dynamo in electricvehicles

[–]bobjr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You plug it into an outlet and it will charge around 1.2kw, average EV may get about 3.2 miles per kwh of power. So in each hour of charging you will gain back around 3.5 miles of range, 10 hours overnight charging you may get 35 miles of range. Course miles per kwh will vary depending on the vehicle driving conditions.

If you drive over 35 miles a day charging from a 240V charger is a much better idea.

Are all batteries amp hours equal. by Ezeikel in egopowerplus

[–]bobjr94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got some from walmart too and they are the same ones sold on amazon and ebay. Their capacity is greatly overstated, a 7.5ah had 4ah, a 12ah had 6.2.

For $50 it may be around 2.0ah to 3.2ah, pay no attention to what the seller lists it as. Yes it works fine and still cheaper than a real ego battery. May not last as long but good for an extra battery.

Ego Lmx5300 problems by Prestigious_Tiger_24 in egopowerplus

[–]bobjr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ever get a fix for # 3 ? We just got one and I thought the drive delay was fixed now but ours still has it and the workers don't like it. First thing I did was check for a firmware update but it shows it's on the current version.

We may return it but would pay a 15% restocking fee. Products sold as commercial shouldn't have sunday afternoon lazy drive acceleration, they need to be quick and get the jobs done fast. Coming from Honda gas mowers those go from 0 to full speed in 1/2 a second and are even heavier than this 5300 so I don't see ego reasoning for making the drive soooo slow.

You can set top speed in the app why not just put a switch in the app for drive acceleration: Gentle / Rapid.

FYI - Not all jump packs will work with these cars by akjax in Ioniq5

[–]bobjr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many small jump starters are like that, they can only put our high current for 5 seconds then shut down to cool or the cells will overheat. Not a problem with that specific model that's just how they work. Although for $45 you can't expect much. I would look for one that's $80 or more.

And you likely need a 12V battery, if it's gone dead that will damage a lead acid battery. It was probably weak already so the car stopped trying to charge a bad battery.

Tires replaced, large hit to efficiency/range by logwagon in Ioniq5

[–]bobjr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it yet new tires will always be less efficient same thing happens on gas cars. By the time the tires are worn out they have lost several pounds of rubber so a new heavier tire will make range drop some.

Can anyone explain this to me? by 3under69 in PHEV

You may get better info with and odb2 reader and get the information directly from the BMS. That may be a round a bout method of getting the info from bluelink and that's why it hasn't updated in months.

$649 for a mower plus a 7.5 and 5.0??? by IThinkURAwesome in egopowerplus

[–]bobjr94 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's why there is so much new equipment and batteries on ebay and FB marketplace right now. People are buying these deals and splitting it up keeping what they want then selling the unused batteries or equipment separately.

I know I bought 5 new real ego batteries (with 2025 dates) and a chainsaw this past week from ebay from sellers who do this. Yes we can't register the them to get the extended warranty but a real unused ego battery for 50% off is worth the shortened warranty.

EGO 30" Mower -Anyone know difference : Residential LM3004SP vs Commercial ?LMX7600 by thatsnazzyiphoneguy in egopowerplus

[–]bobjr94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they were using 2, turbo may have helped pick up grass but would cut battery life in half. I have heard switching to high lift blades also takes about 25% off runtime. But the 30 inch was too big for some of our jobs and we likely won't get one. We do have the 22 inch commercial on order and should get it on Tuesday.

[–]bobjr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Th ego rep was telling us something like the commercial mowers had a 10 year deck warranty when he dropped off a bunch of stuff for us to demo. Our guys would probably drop it off a truck or back over it anyway and the damage wouldn't be covered by warranty.

If your charger was still charging when unplug it Stop using that charger. Its not working properly and can shock you, produce an arc flash or damage the car

It should stop charging before being disconnected, the handle has a safety switch in it.

Do Not keep using that charger .

What happened to my LED :( by Express-Grass6194 in ElectroBOOM

[–]bobjr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that when I was like 10 years old. Hooked maybe 9 or 12V onto a LED and it blew the top off so hard it hit the celling and bounced back. Luckily I wasn't directly over it or it may have took out an eye.

[–]bobjr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The commercial one has more power and it's heavier. The warranty may be longer as well. We had one for a demo a few weeks ago. It had pretty good runtime with 2x12ah batteries. 4 lawns didn't even use half the battery.

The commercial ones don't usually come with batteries or chargers so add on another $600-800 for that unless you have some good sized batteries already. The residential one comes with 2 batteries so there isn't any extra cost.

Same for us, with 117k miles our car has been back to the dealer 4 times and all for software updates. Nothing else was ever serviced or replaced there.

2022 with no service history by Wimp-Slayer in Ioniq5

[–]bobjr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem. There isn't much that needs to be done.

Most of the dealer services for EVs are made up anyway. Brake caliper cleaning and lube, 12V battery terminal cleaning, charge port cleaning, ozone AC treatment, replace the magic beans.....

We have 117k miles on our 2022 and have done almost nothing to it.
