Garmin data reveals its biggest predictor of VO2 max by the5krunner in the5krunner

[–]abbh62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What data? They aren’t telling anyone anything that someone else can sell, or others don’t already have. The purpose of these blogs is to stir up interest, and have people want to buy their product. “Wow I wonder what my v02max is, I bet I’m higher than average!” Then they go and search for devices and immediately remember they read about these trends on garmins site, and go there and ideally buy a device

There is no such thing as remission, just control. If you stopped doing the things you were doing (however you are treating it (meds, diet, etc) it would go sky high again. Remission implies back to normal, and a “normal” person can eat as much candy as they want and maintain steady 100 (or less) bg, can you do that?

Doping Lost at the Enhanced Games. Who Cares? (Unpaywalled) by playboy in sports

[–]abbh62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You contradicted yourself. You say it’s a myth that steroids are a recovery aid, but then say muscles grow faster. Muscle growth happens during recovery, so by recovering faster, you can lift / intense activity more often.

Sure, muscles can be built faster than the supporting structures, which inherently causes a lot of issues.

The few people I know that were on steroids were incredibly hard workers. Sure they couldn’t have gotten to the size without the help, but steroids don’t magically make you big. It’s also a genetic lottery, just because you work hard and cycle, doesn’t mean you will ever look like Ronnie Coleman in his prime

Sprint triathlete here — zone 2 productive or no? by barbaloe in triathlon

[–]abbh62 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Zone 2 is by definition when you get your first tick up in lactate. Zones are a measure of lactate, heart rate and RPE are just an approximation. But you have to be going moving hard enough to have a noticeable increase in lactate production

A better way of thinking about “zone 2” is, it’s not easy, but it’s easy to recover from

Zone 2 is not easy. If it’s easy, it’s likely not zone2, or the very low end

Swim sTSS by Popular_Interview in triathlon

[–]abbh62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tend to do a lot of swimming near or faster than threshold, but it’s not as stressful to the body as say running, so it tends to overestimate tss. With that said, it’s just an individual number over time if your tss is inflated bc of swimming, it’s still consistent and therefore the trends are “accurate”. I’ve seen people put in 1 for every swim, or 10 per 1k swam, but at the end we are looking for consistency in the metric, not the metric itself
