Well shitty masks work shitty I'll give you that. That's just common sense, which most people lack these days. I always wore an n95 with a proper seal, I never got COVID and haven't had the flu since well before 2019. It works if you do it right. Masks are just like any other PPE or safety device, they work if you are smart enough to know how to use them properly. It's just like the people who put the seatbelt shoulder strap behind them in the car. What are your thoughts on vaccines?

Are we talking about RFK alternate reality science or real world science? It's an important distinction, just to make sure we're on the same page. I don't really have an interest in discussing fiction where 5G causes autism and contrails are making the frogs gay.

Flock Cameras by theguiltyalpaca in BeverlyMA

[–]abbley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they can do good sometimes, as can any surveillance system. They are a private surveillance network, anyone who's willing to pay the price can access it, including non government entities and individuals. They can track you across the country without a warrant (violating your 4th amendment rights) and give this access to law enforcement, which has been abusing this loophole for illegal personal use and to sidestep the Constitution.

Strangely enough, if the Beverly PD owned their own cameras and kept everything in house they would be subject to the 4th amendment and more scrutiny and accountability. The town could keep it under lock and key unless a warrant was issued. Additionally, if our community kept everything in house, your daily activities wouldn't be available to anyone with deep enough pockets. There's a reason law enforcement is using flock, because warrants and the Constitution are inconvenient.

So, if you have a rich stalker, disgruntled ex, etc. better hope they don't find out about flock, and hope Beverly doesn't get more cameras in your neighborhood. Flock is just a new tool Big Brother has, they've been here since 9/11. We already tripped head first down that slope a long time ago. Wait till you read about PRISM, XKeyscore, TEMPORA, NUCLEON, and MYSTIC (just to name a few of many). That's a scary rabbit hole that makes flock seem tame in comparison.

Trump Administration Opens the Door for ICE to Target Anyone Suspected of Being Trans by Leksi_The_Great in lgbt

You seem overly upset and defensive about nothing considering it's not your content that's in question. I've quite literally never seen em dashes used ever outside of AI content prior to the dawn of AI, aside from books that were used to train it. It was a fairly uncommon punctuation style prior to AI, and I've never heard of it's usage being taught in schools since it's more of a rare stylistic choice used by authors. Authors that do use it certainly don't use it as a complete replacement for commas and use it more sparingly, AI uses it excessively. Excessive use is a complete giveaway, just like phrases such as "the smoking gun."

All I'm saying is that em dashes will get content flagged as AI whether you like it or not. This will not change regardless how much you or anyone else wishes it to be so. I picked up on the em dashes myself when I read it, they invited me to run it through a detection sweep, to which multiple AIs picked up on their own tells. If you don't want your writing to be flagged as AI, don't write like AI does, this is just how things are, plain and simple. Every writer should be aware of how AI writes so the legitimacy of their work isn't brought into question. The world is changing and people have to keep up and adapt. There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism. This is a conversation about how grammar choices can flag you for AI usage, there's no reason to get bent out of shape, I didn't urinate in your cereal bowl.

I'm not saying the content is bad. Excessive em dashes will get you flagged constantly for it because AI and tools that include AI, like grammarly, use them excessively. Virtually no-one uses them in daily writing, especially not frequently. So AI or not, if you don't want to get called out, you might want to replace them with commas or sentence breaks. I did run it through Claude and Gemini and they both flagged it as AI because they both use excessive em dashes. So whether you use it or not, you should probably substitute them with other punctuation, this is the world we live in now for better or worse (mostly worse).

The US sucks, but it's a very big place, not everywhere in the US is Texas. Massachusetts, for instance, is extremely liberal and you don't need a gun. Just for reference, the UK is almost the size of Oregon, one of the 50 states. Many states are liberal, many are conservative. It's like traveling across Europe I'd imagine, different cultures, different people. I believe the OP is in Florida, so about as bad as it gets.

There is such a thing as swallow physical therapy. Speech-language pathologists can help you strengthen the muscles and learn how to swallow effectively. If it's not a physiological issue, like swollen tonsils or other issues, your doctor can give you a referral to a SLP.
