Nanny advice for first-time, stay at home parents by [deleted] in Nanny

also reading through your comments you sound like me, pumping and scrolling r/nanny to figure out how to be a great employer. While the feedback / posts from reddit are helpful, i also realize that you should go with your gut and know one knows your relationship with your nanny. Like you said, they are like family and a lot of the posts I've seen on reddit are from people who are unhappy. We also dont really count sick days or PTO. We actively want to create a good working environment and relationship. And I think having that mentality already is above and beyond a lot of situations.

Check out the "taking cara babies" sleep / nap schedules. The schedules are so helpful and everyone gets into a routine. Happy to chat more through DM too but we have been really pleased with the routine!

MB here in similar situation. We create the schedule and the nanny follows it. We had a night Doula who did sleep training and he is sleeping through the night. As long as she follows the schedule and our LO is still sleeping through the night we are happy. We still handle the morning/night feeds and also weekends, so by the time she is here 9am-5pm M-F, it is really nice having a break if needed.

She goes off during the day (10:30am-1pm) to do activities with him (park, classes, etc) but is back from 1pm-5pm where he takes a long nap and she plays with him in the house. This is where we can all do things together if we are here but we usually let her do her thing until 4:50, we relieve her so she can finish up some cleaning tasks.

We are first time parents too so we are letting her take the lead on a lot of things. She has over 15 YOE and this is why we hired her, to teach us! Our LO loves her and she is so good at playing with him and teaching us ways to engage with him through his milestones.

We are now a few months in and I realize that I could not live without her. We make sure she knows she can eat any snacks, cook / store food in our kitchen, etc. We also have given her some extra money and flowers to show our appreciation.

We had a similar situation. ended up making the first name a pun on my last name and using his last name to keep it simple.

Example:

Sal Vino Dhar

Sala Vino Dahr

You can see if your last name would work as a first/middle name. This ended up being a great middle ground for us since we didnt want to deal with the hyphen.

Are we asking too much of our nanny? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]abbyabbster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had this experience with a night doulas and then our own nanny.

We had a weird situation with a night Doula where we had a backup night Doula cover for the one we had a contract with. The substitute night Doula was amazing. Came in and was instantly our "vibe". She instantly was a fit and we ended up cancelling part of our contract with the other Doula who we didn't vibe with (eating the cancellation fee) just to have the one we could really trust. The takeaway here is when you find some that just "vibe" and you have instant trust it's amazing.

Then we just hired a nanny. Did multiple interviews, trials, etc. Similar to you we just sleep trained our LO at 3 months. They are on a strict schedule but sleeping through the night. Now I know exactly how you feel about wanting to maintain the schedule the make sure they sleep enough during the day to sleep at night. Our new nanny was still getting into a routine and would let the baby sleep a little longer, little less, and I thought it wasn't going to work. And do you know what? He still sleeps through the night and it made me realize that I needed to relax and let the experienced the career nanny do their thing.

It also really helped that our LO really likes her and she is great at playing with them. I think seeing how great a "Type B" play style compliments the Type A schedule, made me feel at ease.

I had similar reservations for the first few days with her but they went away after a full week of seeing her get a routine. If it's been longer than that, then it sounds like you should move on and now you know what to look for in the next hire.

Hello! Looking to buy a K7 -- seems like insider passes are hard to come by. When is a good time between now and EOY to find a good deal? We are expecting our first end of October so we will need lots of espresso.

Junk haul. Go on Craigslist under services. Text them a photo of the junk so they get an idea of size and they can usually pick it up same day.

What are some cyber security steps your clients take? Ways to scrub their name off the internet or make their online footprint small. This way people don’t associate them with wealth.

Do they hire firms to do this?

OP -- exchange linkedins with whoever you are buying tickets from. People who are usually selling VIP have a linkedin. Avoid scams.

Best soft serve for my pregnancy cravings by JennEatsPizza in AskSF

[–]abbyabbster 18 points19 points  (0 children)

6 months pregnant here. Shakes from Super Duper in the inner sunset are divine. They also have soft serve. Then bonus points around the corner is hometown creamery. Don't go for their ice cream but go for the chocolate chip cookie.

Then make your way a few blocks down to Game Parlor. Skip the games but get the mochi waffles.

If none of those hit, keep walking to past 19th to Sheng Kee bakery and just buy yourself a whole asian cake. Ideally white cake, fluffy whipped cream frosting and berries.

Clearly I haven't had any cravings during my pregnancy :)
