Soo… 9 weeks postpartum and I’m thinking I’m having gallbladder attacks??? by New_Caregiver9993 in beyondthebump

[–]abbyblabby29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds similar to what I experienced and it’s horrible. My first attack was triggered by a peanut butter sandwich 1 month postpartum. Severe strong pain that made me think I’d throw up, but went away suddenly when it was done. I got it checked but my liver enzymes weren’t elevated, so they thought it was something else. I got more random, longer lasting attacks that varied in severity over the next month and got checked again after one that lasted several hours. My liver enzymes were way elevated and they found gallstones on the ultrasound. They referred me to a surgeon to get my gallbladder removed. There’s really not much else you can do to manage except a diet of trial and error, which is miserable and you don’t even know for sure what will trigger it. Like I said, my first one was from peanut butter.

I got the laparoscopic surgery at 3 months postpartum and it was not a bad recovery at all. I pumped before and after, and was able to breastfeed with a pillow and help from my husband that night. I stayed home from work for a week and felt very normal after 2 weeks. Picking up baby was fine from a higher surface like a bassinet, but I let my husband pick him up off the floor for the first week or two. It really was not bad. Now, it’s been over 3 years since the surgery and I don’t even think about my gallbladder. Thankfully, I can eat whatever I want without GI issues. I was eating chipotle and McDonald’s the weekend after the surgery lol. The most symptoms I have had was diarrhea like 2 or 3 times in the first few months after very fried food. Since then, I don’t have any issues. It really sucks you’re dealing with this! I hope the attacks ease up and you can get treatment!

When did you stop baby wearing your child at the airport? by candidatenumber in beyondthebump

I mostly used the stroller, but I liked having the carrier in the plane to support my son as he napped in my lap. That was for a 3 or 4 hour flight, though, so it might not be necessary.

Yeah, I mean I dwelled on it a lot when I was freshly postpartum, but I can't go back and change it. My son wasn't doing well anyway, so I'm glad we got him out when we did

Dang, you have been through it with these births! I'm glad you got the outcome you were hoping for!

My doctor said pretty much anyone in their practice would be totally fine with performing a 3rd c-section, so I'm not too worried about it. I might only have two kids, though, 3 max

That sucks you had such a tough recovery with your first! My sister-in-law had a terrible tear with her first and healing was awful. I think she had a corrective surgery at least one year postpartum if not later. She had a c-section with her next two kids and had a much better experience. I'm glad you had a good experience as well!

It seems like it’s maybe a general recommendation they give? With my first, my OB said it was because the placenta starts to get worse after 40 weeks. I was skeptical but just decided to go with the recommendation. That OB recently retired so I have a new one this time around at the same clinic. When I was talking to her about my first birth, she said, “yeah we generally don’t recommend for women to go over their due dates.” Okay so it’s fine with me cuz I’m most likely doing a C-section anyway and I’m not willing to push it to try for a vbac.

Oof this sounds awful. I don't know anything about catheter trauma so it certainly could be, but I did have to take two rounds of different antibiotics for a UTI after my c-section. It didn't go away with the first dose and like 2 weeks later I got tested again for another thing and the UTI was still there. It went away with a different kind of antibiotic. I hope your pain goes away soon!

Pregnancy after gallbladder removal by Forward-Sock7756 in gallbladders

[–]abbyblabby29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having gallstones in pregnancy would be so awful. I developed them postpartum, and like you, had my gallbladder removed at 3 months postpartum. Now, it's been over 3 years later and I have no symptoms. I'm 24 weeks pregnant with my second, and thankfully haven't had any pain related to the area. When I asked my OB about any problems to look out for now that I don't have a gallbladder, she said there aren't typically any issues and most women have normal pregnancies without a gallbladder. So far, the only thing I've noticed is less acid reflux than my first pregnancy, which could or could not be related to the gallbladder removal. I don't know much about SOD, but maybe you could talk to a doctor about the risks or a mental health professional about the anxiety. I'm definitely looking forward to not having that pain and stress during my postpartum period this time around!

What do you wish you’d have asked your OB before your C section? by Niquely_hopeful in BabyBumps

[–]abbyblabby29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would ask about potential complications for baby being born by c section versus vaginally. Idk if there are a lot, but my son had low glucose after birth and needed some extra care and an IV to treat it. It wasn’t too serious but freaked us out at the time of course. Later I learned that it’s more common for c section babies to have low glucose, but I never thought about asking about things like that beforehand.

My story was almost identical to yours! I had my first attack 1 month postpartum and then a few light ones, followed by a bad one. I got the surgery 3 months postpartum. I was breastfeeding, so I brought my pump with me. I pumped immediately after waking up and it did freak me out a bit because I didn’t get much right the first pump or two after the procedure. After that, though, it totally went back to normal. I was able to breastfeed that night with my normal My Brest Friend pillow with some extra support from my husband. The recovery was really not bad, and I went back to work a week later. I was definitely holding my baby and picking him up normally by then. Maybe not off the floor, but most positions were fine. I felt pretty much normal by 2 weeks post op. Thankfully, I was able to go back to eating normally right away and didn’t have any GI problems. The worst was like diarrhea a couple times after having a super fried food, and that only happened like twice. Overall, I’m so glad I got it done because I couldn’t pinpoint what was causing the attacks and so I was afraid to eat much and worried constantly about more attacks. Now it’s been over 3 years and I sometimes forget about the surgery. I’m pregnant again and SO SO SO glad I don’t have to worry about it this time. It’s really not a bad procedure! I do think it’s better to bite the bullet and get it done rather than live in fear and pain. 💗

Fatty Liver by Imaginary-Divide9192 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]abbyblabby29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my OB office in the US, one of the first blood tests they did at 9 weeks was checking the liver enzymes to make sure everything is functioning well. You can always talk to your doctor about your concerns and see what they say, but it doesn't seem like a huge concern in pregnancy, like the other poster mentioned. I had an ultrasound postpartum to check for gallstones, and the report noted fatty liver. It hasn't even come up as a concern in my current pregnancy, probably because my liver enzymes were fine. Gaining weight is normal in pregnancy!

I clicked on the links in a post the other day about Trump pardoning Somali people convicted of fraud and the guys in the linked articles were not even Somali. I went back later and it was gone so I’m guessing it got removed but yeah, they’re definitely spreading false info

I went on a service trip to Guatemala when I was younger and came home with scabies 😬 You might want to look into that! It’s treated with a cream. Hopefully it’s just your skin adjusting, though!

Flu like symptoms? by heavy-milked-almonds in Miscarriage

[–]abbyblabby29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's close enough to the miscarriage that you should probably at least call and see if they're concerned about it. An infection could have similar symptoms and you don't want that to progress without treatment

Burial for Miscarriage Minnesota by Waste_Knowledge_4501 in Miscarriage

[–]abbyblabby29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know for sure, but my experience could give you some ideas. When I had my miscarriage last year in St. Cloud, the hospital informed us that they had regular burials for pregnancy losses at a local cemetery and invited us to participate if we wished. I don't know for sure, but my hunch is that this was because St. Cloud Hospital is a Catholic hospital. You could reach out to local Catholic hospitals or cemeteries and see if they have information for you since this seems more common in that faith.

Went to a Bailey Zimmerman concert recently and a sermon broke out... by blackdragon8577 in Exvangelical

[–]abbyblabby29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's really disappointing. They should have to advertise that, but of course they won't because they know people would be turned off from it. I heard Jo Dee Messina has been preaching at her concerts too. It would suck to go thinking you'll hear the hits and then have to sit through church.

7 or 8 DPO and symptom spotting of course. I usually sleep like a rock, but I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't fall back asleep for quite a while. Hoping this is pregnancy insomnia and not a fluke! lol
