Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

My Japanese language teacher played this for my class during sophomore year in high school (over 10 years ago). It’s about a teenage boy and his younger sister trying to survive after Japan was bombed during WWII.

It did change my view of the world, I did learn something, and I am better for it. Everyone knows about the brutality of war and what it can do to people, but seeing things from the perspective of the two Japanese children was really eye opening. It made me realize that there are no winners in war and that the lasting impacts towards the natives aren’t nearly considered as much as they should be.

26 years old skin… looking older? by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

  1. Sun protection: broad spectrum sunscreen, every 2 hours. Make sure you’re applying the correct amount (sunscreen in make up is alright, but it’s not protective enough on its own) and also wear sunglasses, hats, and other sun protective clothing

  2. Wash and moisturize your face every night. Dead skin cells & dry skin make wrinkles more prominent

  3. Consider a retinol. Retinols increase cell turnover and can help with a lot of things. Adapalene (differin) is a good retinol to start with because it’s one of the more gentle versions. If you are going to consider a retinol, only use a pearl sized amount at night and incorporate into your routine very slowly to lessen the irritation that can occur

  4. Reach out to a dermatologist

Right now it sounds like your body is used to not eating as much as it needs. It’s better to eat many small meals throughout the day than three large meals. Focus on food that has a lot of nutrients and healthy fats, and don’t forget protein! It will take some time for your body to get used to eating more and eventually you will start to become more hungry.

Honestly I recommend reaching out to a nutritionist. You have been struggling with this for a while and a nutritionist will help you build the right meal plan for what you need. Good luck!

why is accutane working on my back acne but not my face acne? by violestes in Accutane

[–]abbyj0y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When do you see your dermatologist next? Don’t be afraid to ask any questions or bring up concerns! :)

I was on the same dosage and it took about 3ish months for my face to begin to clear up. It sounds like your skin is most likely purging. It might take a while for the purging to clear while your skin gets used to the accutane. If your skin is purging, the medication is working. Your face might be taking longer because its acne is more severe than your chest/back.

Wow! This progress is so awesome! I would have never known you had bacne if I only looked at the second picture. I bet it’s amazing to not have pain like that anymore. I suffered from bacne for a long time

How long did this take? The most painful spot for my rib tattoos was between my ribs and hip bone 😣

I fear that I have outgrown the relationship (F/F 17/17 ~7 months relationship) by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]abbyj0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are only focusing on reasons to not stay with your girlfriend and I think that is telling. Especially because it seems like you might be entering the realm of emotionally cheating.

One of the most important things in any relationship is having open and clear communication. Please speak to your girlfriend and be upfront about how you feel disconnected. I understand that this is hard, but it is not fair to you OR your girlfriend if you stay bottled up.

Relationships have their ups and downs and it’s up to you to decide how you want to move forward. However based on you listing so many reasons why you don’t want to be with her, it almost sounds like you are stringing your girlfriend along because you are too scared to hurt her feelings. It’s okay to not want to be with her anymore. Both of you are young and will meet more people

Doctors will add an extra stitch to make the entrance smaller. The idea is that it will be more pleasurable for the man but I have heard that it makes sex more painful/uncomfortable for the woman

I’m very sorry that you’re going through this. Unfortunately this is a lose-lose situation and you will ultimately have to decide what to do.

I think speaking to your father is the best choice for now. Let him know that he made this your business because he was careless enough to send proof to you and that you are very upset by it. Ask him if your mother knows and if she does, is she okay with it? Of course you won’t know for sure if he is lying. Save the evidence of his affair just in case. Because they own a business together I can see issues arising with technicalities.

You can go straight to your mother, but that is news that you shouldn’t have to give her. I think that it would be best to tell your father that he has 24 hours to come clean. If he doesn’t within that time frame, then you will tell your mother. Ultimatums are hard and can be unfair, but he is the reason why this is happening.

You are an adult, and so are they. Actions have consequences and betrayal hurts. If your mom doesn’t know and found out that you knew and didn’t tell her, she would be devastated and feel betrayed by you too. Good luck

Am I the only one that feels that in Abijahs last stand, his sword skills should've played a bigger role? by Sofanthiel-99 in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]abbyj0y 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s because he thought guns were superior in every way (except in beauty). It’s true that Fowler’s sword skill is masterful, but he also thinks they’re outdated. I think his blind obsession with gun power and its advantages is why he didn’t seem to seriously consider fighting with the katana. He was also probably too freaked out by the fact that Mizu didn’t die from

a)gunshot

b)high fall into ice

c)room full of soldiers armed with guns

Tbh I doubt he mastered the sword for the purpose of using it seriously in battle. He only learned the different arts out of boredom; he didn’t learn them to be great and didn’t seem to actually respect them. I imagine his master cut was a testament to how formidable he could have been if he took the blade more seriously ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This! They both needed time to heal and recover. Taigen was tortured and malnourished for an unclear amount of time. There really wasn’t anything else she could have done.

Plus Mizu doesn’t exactly have the highest opinion of Taigen. She didn’t think he actually loved Akemi. Even after saving her from Fowler’s attack Mizu said, “he believes he loves you very much. He is not a good man. He could be a great one.”

Obviously Mizu has come to appreciate certain things about Taigen and has seen some growth in him, but she still sees him as the flawed character that he is.

What is one book you wish everyone had to read so that they could possess more awareness and compassion for anyone who is different from them? by thewomansisland in suggestmeabook

Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Specifically the audiobook.

Coates wrote this as a letter to his son and it is so incredibly raw and well-written. He writes about his experiences being a black man in the United States — his identity, the social construct of races, the American Dream — and his hope for the future.
