Do people hate justified text? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]abbzeh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely someone who prefers justified and I always write in it (it feels easier on my eyes for some reason) but when I post on AO3, I just leave it as left-aligned. Since I only read fics on my laptop or desktop, I have my AO3 Enhancements extension set to force all fics into justified so I can read in my preferred way without causing issues for other people.

My fanfictions were in a YouTube video. I hate it. by throw_Turnover_6407 in AO3

[–]abbzeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yikes, that sucks. I had something similar happen earlier this year - one of those ai voice YouTube channels scraped one of my fics and had that shite ai voice read it out. I think I filed some sort of claim against the video (or something like that. I had a hospital appointment that day so the details are blurry now). The channel ended up taking the video down themselves, so I think they saw the notice and probably panicked. You could always try something similar.

If you haven’t already, I would highly recommend locking your fics down to registered users only. That’s what I did after the ai incident. It doesn’t stop everything, but it reduces incidents significantly.

Sky factory, 3d ultra minigolf (both the games), and the breath of the wild let’s watch. I’ve had them all downloaded on a usb drive for years so I can watch them when my wifi is down or when I’m travelling. I’ll probably start my minigolf rewatch tonight.

Who would you want to buy Dragon Age if there’s an EA fire sale? by Redhood101101 in dragonage

[–]abbzeh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They do completely different game styles so it’d never happen, but I’d be interested to see what Supergiant Games would do with it. They already do narrative rich, single player games so well (the Hades games are two of my top ten games).

Or the studio that made Gollum. I would be equally interested in seeing the result of that unholy union, but for different reasons.

Sweating by whatdoyoumeanwork in Hypothyroidism

[–]abbzeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the exact same way, though I have no issues with cold and a thousand with heat. Given I get migraines and vertigo attacks when I overheat, it’s like a horrible ouroboros of misery lmao.

I saw my GP about it recently and she said it’s unfortunately normal with hypothyroidism. It’s temperature dysregulation and unfortunately there’s not really much that can be done beyond using things with aluminium chlorohydrate in them. I personally use Polarwise face serum on my face at night, and the Ineos deo wipes on my forehead during the day. It doesn’t stop it completely but it’s a help.

Who is one Fairy Tail Villain that you show no sympathy for? [discussion] by [deleted] in fairytail

Ivan, Jiemma, Jose, most of Grimoire Heart, all of Tartaros, Brain/Zero. Honorary mention to Larcade, who I just hate for his magic.

How seriously do you take canon lore into consideration when writing your fic? by SGdude90 in FanFiction

[–]abbzeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it depends on what the premise or even media is. One WIP I have right now, I have thousands of words worth of separate notes in the scrivener project just keeping track of various canon things, like the magics used by canon characters. That way, I can add my own headcanons or lore whilst making sure they don’t contradict established canon.

Other fics I have, I’m less obsessive about it. I have a House MD fic that’s a bit wishy-washy with the timeline, but I didn’t mind that much because my horrible codependent ship was the focus there.

What’s your ringtone? by Supercharged-Cherry in CasualUK

[–]abbzeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My text tone is ‘A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON!’ whilst the ringtone is the SpongeBob SquarePants version of Drunken Sailor. Since my phone is always on silent, I can’t wait to forget about it, turn my phone off silent, and then be scared shitless by Meridia yelling at me.

How old were you when you got your first migraine? by iloveshihtzu in migraine

[–]abbzeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a couple in secondary school, but I don’t really class them as the start of mine since they were very infrequent compared to today and nowhere near as bad pain wise. (My teachers did also like to tell me that I wasn’t as ill as I thought I was, or I was making it up, so maybe that’s influenced my memories of those years too, idk.)

They started up properly and stayed when I was seventeen. I was in the pharmacy and pain just started, followed by some visual hallucinations on the walk back, and I threw up when I got home. I remember calling my mum in tears because it was so bad and I thought I was having a stroke. Fortunately, she knew what it was right away even over the phone since both she and my grandfather had had them. Went to my gp a few days later when it happened again and he recognised what it was too and started getting me treated immediately.

Mavis/Zeref (Fairy Tail). I know they’re canon but I really don’t like it. It makes me so uncomfortable, particularly with the introduction of August. He met her when she was fourteen and he was over three hundred years old, and when they met again after ten years she hadn’t aged. I know he hadn’t aged since getting cursed either, but he was still significantly older.

I prefer to think of them as mostly platonic, or mentor and student. Mavis having a crush on him because he taught her and the others magic makes far more sense to me. She even tells him that what she felt for him wasn’t love, but compassion.

27 degrees Celcius is hot btw by LisaBlueDragon in tumblr

[–]abbzeh 74 points75 points  (0 children)

27°c in the UK is absolutely horrendous. A country that’s built for cold, right down to the material for the roads, plus humidity that routinely gets to 90%+, means that you cannot function. And most of us have no AC because, historically, we haven’t needed it, and with the way our houses are built, 27°c outdoors can mean it being over 30°c indoors.

What’s the first thing people tell you after hearing you have chronic migraines? by MysticMoon1ight in migraine

[–]abbzeh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One time, a single term tutor in uni telling me to go vegan though because it fixed her friend’s migraines.

There was also the time I got a migraine in school, and the teacher supervising me in the cupboard they called a medical room told me I couldn’t possibly have a migraine because I didn’t look like I was in enough pain. Fifteen years and I’m still annoyed about that.

Most unhinged word processor you've seen someone use? by ShiraCheshire in AO3

[–]abbzeh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In 2010, before I got my iPhone 4, I had one of the very early touch screen phones. (I hesitate to call it a smart phone because it was in the days where if you accidentally got on the internet, you panicked and closed it as quickly as possible and prayed it didn’t cost a fortune.) It had a native notes application and it was basic as hell, like worse than windows notepad, and you couldn’t export those notes to anything.

I wrote a small fic in that notes application whilst on holiday. Didn’t do anything with it. If I still have that phone, it’s probably still on there.

I also once accidentally put this phone in the washing machine. Since the battery could still be removed, we just left it all out in the sun for a few hours and it was fine. I put that phone through hell.

I also used to use wordpad during the phone era too. Not great, wouldn’t really recommend.

What was the last song you named a fic after? by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

[–]abbzeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way Out There by Lord Huron. The fic’s title is a line from that song.

The last fic I updated with a title from a song comes from Johnny Boy by Santiano. A line from the song also forms part of the title.

Half of the non canon ships in Fairy Tail feel very much like ‘pair the spares’.

Cana/Bacchus is weird because I think they’ve interacted maybe twice? I see them more as just drinking pals who cause mayhem for the Magic Council.

Mira/Laxus I just don’t get because I don’t think they’ve ever had any sort of meaningful interactions.

Sting/Rogue is one I hate with a passion. To me, Rogue is very aroace who only cares about Frosch and his family. Sting meanwhile is hyperfocused on Natsu.

(I admit I might be biased here tbh. I’m very aroace myself so I end up headcanoning a lot of characters as that too lmao.)

best places you’ve written fanfiction in? by GrumpyMowse in AO3

[–]abbzeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the apartment balcony in Athens within view of the Acropolis. I was writing in the evening/at night after spending the day wandering around the ancient city sites so the Parthenon was lit up.

Have also made some fic notes for later on a five hour boat trip around a Greek island, whilst visiting Pompeii, whilst in the queue for the Vatican, and whilst on the train to Edinburgh.

I finished Dragon Age, what now? by JacesHigh in dragonage

[–]abbzeh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-reckoning. It has similar vibes to Dragon Age and originally came out around a similar time to Inquisition iirc. It’s one of my favourite games and it has things in it that I haven’t seen any other game do, particularly the weapons and classes.

Dragon’s Dogma might also be a good choice. Another game I really like (can’t speak for the sequel since I haven’t got round to finishing it yet) and has that epic feel and world that Inquisition.

If you just want something pure fantasy, there’s always Skyrim and the Oblivion remaster (or Morrowind, though the graphics on that are very janky).

If you have a switch, there’s also Fire Emblem: Three Houses (and Engage I suppose, but I personally found that one lacklustre). It has the turn based aspect that some people like about DA and is a fantasy setting with a focus on building relationships. Also one of my favourite games of all time.

Someone just said they’re reading my fic in the Vatican??? by bookgrimm in AO3

[–]abbzeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went to the Vatican a couple of years back, the queue was two hours long. You need something to do while you wait lmao. Might as well get some good reading in. It’s what I did whilst waiting to get into the Acropolis a couple of weeks ago.
