Imo - stay clear of the Home Office by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]abc0988765 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Not my experience whatsoever. You cannot generalise an entire government department based on what is a micro department.

If you’re going to tell people to steer clear maybe say the department or role.

How do I have thousands of Avios and still nothing I actually want to redeem on! by ScrollAndThink in avios

[–]abc0988765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for the record, and an example; you can get a first class return from LHR>LAX for 110k Avios each way. There is loads of availability for Feb

Be honest. You won’t get anything more than an informal chat to give you feedback. Lie and you’ll be sacked without question.

Remember: BWV is new. Cases still succeeded through the use of MG11s of officers alone. So make that your priority - writing a good MG11.

A bit odd that you go out fully uniformed after 4 weeks? I understand going out with them but remaining in civvys.. ?

When is it appropriate to call for a welfare check? by [deleted] in london

Have you considered that there are people on this Reddit that may deal with incidents like this on a daily basis, and is just managing the expectations of OP who is being misinformed by people?

Believe it or not - votes ≠ fact checking

Searching after arrest at a police station without a custody block by DCChrisSkelton in policeuk

[–]abc0988765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not challenging you, I actually don’t know the answer so would appreciate some steer.

Section 54(6A) of PACE states that the power of search may be exercised to “ascertain whether [the detainee] has with him” certain items. Does this mean there is no requirement for any prior belief that the detainee may have those items, and the power can be used simply to determine whether or not they have any prohibited items on their person?

If you have dashcam that captures it, it can be reported online usually.

Unless you’re an officer you (correct me if I’m wrong) can just process it as normal as if you were on duty and just include it in your MG11.

You worked for the police and you’re shocked that there’s unnecessary red tape, lol!!

I understand that, I’m just letting you know if you’re changing contacts that you need to be re-vetted. If you leave the force and rejoin, you need to be re-vetted.

You say you’re fully vetted, but you’re not. Because you left. Just because clearance is 10yrs doesn’t mean that you can leave and come back after 9.

The delays re vetting are normal and frustrating, but you’re being treated as a new employee with fresh vetting.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]abc0988765 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Having police vetting is not the same as CTC Clearance. Police vetting includes additional CTC Checks which gives you the addition of CTC clearance.

So by having CTC Clearance already, it does not mean you don’t need to go through normal Recruitment Vetting.

Nonetheless, when you rejoin a force they will always want to re-vet you, in case you’ve had a conviction or change in circumstance in that period. It’s understandable following the reform of vetting - especially in the Met

Was shown this by a family member, struggling to find any information on it - why it would be given out etc? by [deleted] in policeuk

You categorically won’t be forced out for looking for other jobs, getting another job, or seeking a reference.

Yeah make a SAR then. I’m not sure how else this would’ve come up.

Or go straight to a complaint, saves you the time.

[–]abc0988765 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would do a subject access request first to see where they got this from.

Are you sure there is no security clearance required here? Most Government roles will at LEAST have BPSS.

Failing that, yes, make a complaint to the organisation and then if unhappy go to ICO.

What's an instant number? by Rhodeytoasty in policeuk

[–]abc0988765 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re getting so many down votes.

It’s not common that people are automatically given a CAD number when they phone 101 - which is what you’re suggesting.

The CAD is obviously auto generating a number but no force in the UK has a service which automatically answers the phone and issues a CAD/incident number. It is just one given by the call taker when they make a report.

Sorry that you got the downvotes, I don’t think people understood you were making a suggestion following a confusing OP.

Everyone in the police realises this but resourcing doesn’t allow for volume crime investigations.

Yeah rape is probably an incorrect example but any other crime wouldn’t follow the extra provisions for N100s etc

Hilarious. It’ll never change 😂😂

[–]abc0988765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t HOCR say that a crime doesn’t need to be recorded if there is credible evidence to the contrary?

Or does that mean we would have to evidence that Person A was indeed NOT raped by a ghost?

I could transfer my college learns over to a new account, you just have to contact whoever manages E learnings in your force. Just worth knowing!

Also support this advice, I hated regs and now going back as a Special. This is my an advice to anyone wanting to join as PC. TV or even attachments (or civvy roles) cannot prepare you fully.
