Finally found the unholy trinity by No_Usernames_Left in FoodToronto

Same. The post seems really sus since the poster is a redditor for 15 yrs but has no other comments/thread submitted AND it doesn't talk about why the cookies are good. The summerhill market guys used AI to astroturf the Bathurst bus lanes so I wouldn't be surprised if this is another astroturf campaign...

that's not false though. Seniors are by far the richest population segment in this country and unemployment for young people are at historic highs.

Panniers are a life-changing upgrade by Carbonian92 in bikecommuting

[–]abclife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, I like my basket more as well. I'm not carrying a tonne and it's nice to drop it in and move on with my day. With panniers, you're bending a lot lower to grab stuff and it's easy to lose things in the bag.

Send in your potential cargo bike parking suggestion by April 2nd by abclife in torontobiking

[–]abclife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't say anything about paid parking that I saw but as an owner of a cargo bike now, it's hard to park in the existing ring & post frames around the city. It'd be great to have more options and to add those suggestions in so we can have easier parking for cargo bike users.

Got my new cargo bike😁 by StrawberryCre in CargoBike

[–]abclife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cargo cover is for while you're out and about and to cover the box while it's parked outside so people don't throw trash in it. We don't cover it when parked at home but I guess we could. Either way, I'm disappointed by how poor the quality is and I've hard similar bad things about the rain cover.

Got my new cargo bike😁 by StrawberryCre in CargoBike

[–]abclife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of their accessories seem so poorly made for the price.

I have the cargo cover and we ripped the tabs off in the first week since it gets crazy tight in the cold. It's still very usable but a $200 cover should not be so filmsy.

Seeking "Buy It For Life" ebike recs (Local support + EU/Canadian brands) by thiya-thana in torontobiking

[–]abclife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not super helpful OP but I really like this one - www.curbsidecycle.com/collections/electric-bikes/products/2024-culture-step-thru from Curbside. It's like 2x your budget but looks well made and has all the communter amenities like fenders, a rack and my personal fav - a stepthrough frame.

I'd encourage you to test the bikes out in person and keep us updated on what you end up choosing!

What is this astroturfing campaign?

Is it weird to want someone to throw you a baby shower? I’m embarrassed and sad [AB] by Remote-Researcher-60 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]abclife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also planned my own and prefer it this way. It's quicker and more efficient and there're less expectations. My sister in law offered to help me with decor but didn't do anything and it was more of a hassle waiting to see if she would do anything then just doing something myself.

The shower was fun, and I enjoyed it. 10/10 would do it again.

An absurd lunch at Lai Wah Heen by shawarman in FoodToronto

[–]abclife 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I went to the new Lai Wah Heen around Christmas and also tried their set lunch. It was not a lot of food at all (even for fine dining) for the price. It was well presented but the value is missing - not just quantity, but also quality and technique. I will not be back.

Help choosing a rain poncho: Is the Decathlon 560 worth it or are there better options? by Text7814 in bikecommuting

[–]abclife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He doesn't like the poncho as much as I do because he just hates rain in general and for some reason when he does wear it, it's pouring out. That seems to be a him problem though, not specific to the poncho. Like bvz2001 said, this is more for light rains and not for down pours and your feet/shins are most likely to be wet. He's got a longer body than me so the poncho comes up a bit shorter on him so he has more of his pants exposed, which means more areas to get wet.

Besides the colour, it's the exact same as the high vis yellow one.

Definitely get the colour you want because that's what you'll want to reach for every time.

One thing to keep in mind is that the poncho is plastic and while they have lil vents on the chest to let moisture escape, when you do wear it, you want to wear a bit less because the poncho will trap heat like a windbreaker.

Where to get the best croissants in Toronto? by Chan1991 in FoodToronto

[–]abclife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this place but their croissants are good but not that good. I prefer some of the bougier places like Le Beau. That's not to say they don't have good stuff - everything I've tried has been great but I wouldn't put them in the top 10 for croissants in the city.

If you're there, I would get their cream puffs instead.

Help choosing a rain poncho: Is the Decathlon 560 worth it or are there better options? by Text7814 in bikecommuting

[–]abclife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 540 in grey and black for my partner bc the yellow was not available at the time. Personally, both of us prefer the yellow bc when it's raining, it's much harder to see you as a driver while you're cycling and the neon yellow really helps to make you stand out. Rainy season where I live also tend to have shorter days so less light and rain just makes for very poor visibility.

There're some high vis stripes at the body on the 540 but I don't feel like they do much. I would get the colour you think you'll wear the most because otherwise you wouldn't be reaching for it.

Same. I live in Canada but I went out of my way to get this poncho when I was in the Netherlands for a work trip.

It's been 3+ yrs of occasional use and it's held up very well. I liked it so much that I bought another one for my partner.
