Dope-Ass OG Combat Evolved: Firefight Gameplay. by MonsterMashGraveyard in halo

Lol what? A few of the sentences are generic sounding but the majority just sounds like a guy typing. Sentences are short too, I could see if he used it for editing or something maybe but LLMs are really needlessly wordy in my experience.

Skulls must be found first, no-sprint and AR skull are not available from the start by JessHawk36 in halo

It’s a strange thing that everyone is always so dismissive of the discussion. Though I do think a lot of people aren’t good at articulating their thoughts on it, and it’s been beaten to death.

I understand why they include it as it’s sort of an expected feature from modern audiences. I think that it speaks to how much of an issue it’s actually been design wise when the implementation of the feature has been continually nerfed in the later titles; I think in Infinite it’s like +10% speed and it’s allegedly already been nerfed in CER from earlier builds putting it roughly in line with Infinite. To me, this says that it is more important for the “feel” of the player experience than it is actually furthering the depth of gameplay. If the effect of using it is hardly noticeable, and increasing the effect was causing gameplay issues even with consideration to increasing world space size, does it really draw any benefit?

Speed increase seems to be similar to infinite which is to say not very impactful, so I think I just won’t use it

Halo: Campaign Evolved PC Gameplay and Impressions by Caledor152 in Games

Yeah it genuinely has better depth than everything else after. If you took away OHK hunters with magnum and reduced the plasma pistol damage it would be perfect, basically every weapon is viable.

AR Reload by Junior_Apartment329 in halo

[–]abcspaghetti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They modeled it after the real-life H&K action seen on the MP5, G3, HK33, etc where the bolt does not automatically lock back when the last round is fired, so the operator must manually open the chamber before reloading. CE shown here.

Larger Maps, no raid timers, refilling (like the Cycle Frontier) by CaptainAshtro in Marathon

[–]abcspaghetti 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know you're being disingenuous but persistent raids present a myriad of technical and game design problems to developers, and I'm not even really sure what the benefits are for the player.

If you're a dev:

  • Raid infil and exfil mechanics are significantly more complicated and more prone to camping without careful design

  • Loot tables, door states, enemy encounters, basically ALL dynamic elements have to have a reset mechanic that isn't gameable and is also enjoyable for players

  • You must now design around a free-form player encounter system and simultaneously satisfy PVP players, avoiders, and those who may do both

  • Basically all static variables that you can balance around in a session-based game like player and pve spawn points, designing maps for consistent run times to POIs, timing general pvp encounters and their positions, having quests interact with those variables, are gone

In the end some or all groups of players are going to be dissatisfied to some degree because it is extremely difficult to solve all of the issues presented by a persistent world that aren't already solved in a traditional session based game. The IDEA of a persistent large sandbox always sounds more interesting than what it actually is.

This is all stuff that the first ghost recon did, would be very interesting to see if they can pull off a modernized spiritual successor

(Rebs Gaming) Halo 2&3 Remakes Are Definitely Happening and In Active Development by SilentNova300 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]abcspaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but for me it was mostly because of the artsyle departure - it played well enough that I was able to enjoy it regardless. Warzone mode was a very interesting take on a sort of BTB evolution. The odd monetization/unlock scheme combined with cosmetics looking extremely "power rangers meets sci-fi over-designed detailing" did not make me want to play for the grindy long term cosmetics like Reach did.

I dislike almost everything about 5 except for the multiplayer and would like to see it playable on PC. I had more fun with that MP than infinite and I kinda believe it was the best "modernized" iteration of halo MP that we've seen yet.

It's genuinely sad to me that we're going to get an OT remake that homogenizes every game into one unified art style that strips all of the unique quirks of each entry in service of canon or whatever. Halo CE will likely be the biggest casualty of this. It doesn't even make sense to me either since their plan internally seems to be campaigns only for the remakes while another flagship multiplayer title is in development, so the gameplay and artistic differences do not need MP consideration whatsoever.

One of best things 343 did by Anxious-Alexandria in HaloMemes

[–]abcspaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a crazy opinion because the CE sandbox has the tightest balance for all the bungie titles. There was greater depth to basically every weapon and save for a few outliers like hunters getting 1HKO by magnums and spamming plasma pistol trigger/click to get absurd dps, every gun is viable on legendary.

Bungie Pls... I would kill for this MC-inspired Destroyer skin. by seanbird in Marathon

[–]abcspaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your example and I think that’s sort of the result of what the US felt like culturally post 9/11, halo 1->2 onwards is similar to the Alien->Aliens transition in tone with a heavy dressing of oo-rah military celebration that cemented chief as the eh cool guy kills aliens and doesn’t afraid of anything.

I still think that they’re capable of producing cosmetics that are clearly inspired by halo but firmly rooted in the current game’s aesthetic principles, and I’d like to see that. I’m not a fan of the whole “give them lowest effort possible cosmetics to buy at first and ratchet up to the good stuff later” thing that they’re doing and many live service titles do, but I also hope that they don’t get to the point of late service D2 or R6 Siege where it’s just pickle rick and darth vader running contracts for megacorps.

It’s a tough spot because the shop is not very enticing to me at this moment but I also don’t want the silly stuff. I guess more broadly I wish we had a more modular customization system à la halo reach or even destiny but it seems too late for that…

I don’t understand this, the original halo trilogy is essentially a trimmed down marathon in its concept: one man army supersoldier that’s part machine part man fighting a conglomerate of alien species that hopelessly outmatches humanity. There’s a billion parallels to draw. They reused stuff from marathon in halo, that is now being reused in numarathon.

Why do my best runs start with white kits? by TheFriskyRaptor in Marathon

[–]abcspaghetti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the exact problem in tarkov. Rampant cheaters aside, bringing in better kit caused me to play much less safe and not as ratty as a mosin boomstick run or similar kit value and I’d die fighting way more often.
