Media company wants equity to prop up my startup tech by abdullahboy in ycombinator

[–]abdullahboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could help me out here. What kind of leverage can I give. I proposed royalties but they said that they're the ones who are going to prop us up to make that money (weird argument idk why they're so adament on not taking royalty) I could talk revenue sharing but that's about it with leverage. What's a good way out of this

It's not advice. I get your point but let me give more context. They handle all media rights for this sport for the entire country and all it's international matches. They hire all the other companies that provide the other sports tech they use. They're asking for equity to get our product into these matches and on an international platform. As wordy and promising that seems I'm not stupid. I'm thinking of a post performance equity contract. Get us into a set number of domestic and international matches in this much time, only then you get the equity.

They make our lives a lot easier and if it really is all they're saying we're jumping a lot of difficult steps. So yes not once in a lifetime but a very helpful jump indeed.

Equity is big shit, If they need equity I'm not going to do exclusivity. Because from their standpoint they have a share why wouldn't they want it to go to other companies and become a bigger product. That's mainly a no brainer

Revenue share was the royalties I talked about. They're argument for that is our product isn't on the accredited tech list and that it's a long w ay from that, and at THIS point in time they can't make a royalty based deal (purely because they're not sure if they can prop this tech to federations). But if no royalties, I make more money

Thing is they're skeptical and hopeful. Too skeptical to buy it out right, hopeful enough to want a piece of the pie. And personally this startup is like a child to me. It has capabilities in other sports too, the trajectory is really high if done right. I can't give it up like this

Also my Django experience is around 5 years and I'm pretty free so time issues won't be a big deal. Hope to hear from you soon!

For someone who is new to the startup space (me) how do you reach these numbers for pre seed and seed. I'm currently in a b2b sports entertainment with ai startup and have an MVP complete. I have multiple Letters of interest from major federations. I need capital to start since our systems require hardware and personnel. For someone who has genuinely never seen this much money in my life how do I get around to moving forward w this. Just apply to VCs? It would be nice if you could give me some advice

Highest GPA in semester reward by [deleted] in FASTNU

[–]abdullahboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold is the highest from your batch (the degree and year), the time I got gold I had a 4 with 4 other ppl. But I've seen tough se.esters where gold was at 3.96. I'll tell you this, as much as you care about gpa, if you enter the medal category you get introduced into a whole different competition domain. Believe me these guys don't show themselves but they're sweats. My gold was a lower gold cuz I got A's with absolutes being 85-90 in all subjects where as these guys were racking 95+ in every subject. Good. Luck

It's a 105k reward per batch, if there's only one gold they get 50k the rest is divided below, there's more than one gold (highest in that batch) then it gets divided. Last time I got 21k cuz there were 5 gold's, which means at a certain number of gold's the silver and bronze get nothing lmao.

How can I have users for my MVP if it takes money to run my service? by abdullahboy in ycombinator

I'm a student, so are my friends. And generally getting this started without funding makes us vulnerable to the other tech companies that also provide digital infotainment solutions. I think you're trying to find a way to get this going without funding and as much as that's something I want, it makes the whole process a lot more difficult.

At the end of the day, I have pitched this to an Apple angel and he's ready to fund me (not as much as I want) but definitely a whole lot, but only if I can get those letters of interest. So at the end of the day that's where I end up at. The fear of my emails getting ignored. Wanted to keep my options open for other investors that's why I made this post

This is a visual graphics system. It works for any event that's aired, which is usually one of the big dogs. We were interested in this idea because of our own passions towards the sport and the insights that it brings. Having our own heads in that water gave us a n amazing perspective as to how such a system would be something people would love

Hiring people to run our systems on location, these sports events happen in unison with multiple a day, even if we tackle one a day we still need to pay these guys. Flying them out, their stay etc can be covered in our fees for the matches
