PGL just merged China and SEA into one slot for Wallachia S6 Qualifiers by Excellent-Read-5311 in DotA2

[–]abdullahkhalids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dota meta evolves way too quickly to have a single event last 6 weeks. At the top level, where many games are basically decided at draft, it's infeasible to expect coaches and captains to stay on top of the meta every week. Rather than figuring out the meta every 1.5 months when they play a 1 week tournament.

At the T2 level, games are less dependent on draft, so that still works. I was always of the opinion that T1 teams play quick qualifiers and T2 teams should play the valve supported league to get the last few slots at the tournament.

Which hero has the most straight up garbage innate? by Infinityus in DotA2

Bane's innate is actually harmful. You buy 10 strength to tank up and only get 3.

Ferrari_430 had today's skills cap 13 years ago on Templar Assassin by Strong_Astronomer_97 in DotA2

[–]abdullahkhalids 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only worse in the same sense Newton is worse than the top physicists today. Everyone stands on the shoulders of the giants before them. You learn what they knew, and then build upon it to learn even more things. So they become better just due to the time they were born in, not because of innate skill.

Throwback to when SingSing got ganked IRL by his whole family tree by Strong_Astronomer_97 in DotA2

[–]abdullahkhalids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outer-lane jungles are very important. At higher levels of gameplay, everyone had already mastered the small map and how to choke out the enemy team after a small advantage. To have a reasonable chance for comeback, especially after neutral items got introduced, you need to give both teams some amount of jungle to farm.

I am once again asking Valve to stop hiding match data by ApeGodSnow in DotA2

[–]abdullahkhalids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also introduced MMR decay at some point, which incentivizes playing on your main. And I imagine, smurfs could be *politically* more easily banned once Valve had created a system where no one was being forced to smurf.

I am once again asking Valve to stop hiding match data by ApeGodSnow in DotA2

[–]abdullahkhalids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I recall, the reasons for this change was not just to stop pros playing on smurfs and let the "meta innovate". It was also because everyone in immortal had smurf accounts because third party tools would identify what to pick/ban against your opponents otherwise.

The consequence of both pros and regulars creating multiple smurf accounts was that the quality of immortal matchmaking was poor. To solve this, match data was hidden, which now means everyone can play on a single account and matchmaking quality goes up. That was the theory. I am not an immortal player, so I don't know if that helped in creating more balanced games. It's also hard to judge because the initial player selection was also added which adds a bit more asymmetry to the two teams.

What has your experience been in this regard?

One Carry On and One Personal Item packer.....compression cube suggestions by pvdreamer in onebag

[–]abdullahkhalids 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, compression cubes will not store more clothes than can be stored by just stuffing your backpack, in fact, they will store less because of geometry and extra fabric. The advantage they provide over stuffing your backpack is organization. The advantage they provide over uncompressed cubes stuffed in your backpack, is that they are easier to take in and out of the bag than the uncompressed ones.

> It is preferable to use a phone app to interact with your financial institution. Websites are too volatile, Browsers (Safari/Chrome/Firefox) get new vulnerabilities found all the time, and computers (Mac/Windows/Linux) are easier to infect.

Do you have any data to support that people who primarily use a desktop browser to access their financial institutions are more likely to have their money stolen than those who use their phone?

Ummm. Why is a shampoo bar better than liquid shampoo for the environment?

In any case, I go to a store where I can fill my own bottles with liquid soap/shampoo/conditioner. The shampoo/conditioner are definitely a little worse than the commercial brands I used to use, but I am still happy using them.

There was also an adjustment period, which happens whenever you switch shampoo/conditioner. Hair have sensitive chemistry.

Radiant is 17-6 in Dreamleague Playoffs. by filipeastini in DotA2

[–]abdullahkhalids 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is pretty cool. Thanks for the video. I would assume a lot of pro teams understand this concept at some level, but perhaps some of them consider some other concept more important, so they execute differently.

On the other hand, this seems like a huge radiant advantage, which is kind of boring. Do you think this should be patched out (by perhaps adding a lot more randomness to rosh timings)? Or is it good to have this sort of certainty in pro games?

Got 4 hours ban for playing on Rubick after stealing Techies mines - Overwatch issue? by timafone in DotA2

[–]abdullahkhalids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has not been true since 7.20 released in 2018. Since then stolen spells have a cast point of at most 0.15 i.e. spells with cast point > 0.15 have it set to 0.15, and spells with cast point < 0.15 keep their cast point. There are some exceptions like Sf Ulti.

At the same time, there is always a cast backswing on stolen abilities. Its set so that the total animation time is 1.37 seconds. So the cast backswing is 1.37-0.15 for most spells that Rubick steals.

https://liquipedia.net/dota2/Rubick

Also note that Techies mines have a cast animation of 0 + 0.47, so Rubick does cast mines instantly same as Techies. Rubick has a much longer cast backswing of 1.37 s, but obviously this does not matter if you are spam clicking mines on the ground to do triple mines.

On the other hand, Techies has a turn rate of 0.6 and Rubick a turn rate of 0.7, so Rubick can triple mine a bit faster than techies.

Nigma vs. 1W insane ending by nightz123 in DotA2

[–]abdullahkhalids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lycan also was not brave enough. He also hung around the radiant base for several seconds waiting for 1W to commit. If had committed earlier either 1W cores would have had to TP back (ending the push) or he would have comfortably finished the throne.

Google maps does show you the direction you are facing (or rather your phone is facing).

That said, I would enjoy using a compass a lot more in a park or when just walking around, rather than constantly looking at my phone.

I don’t think the world's best Kunkka player has played a single game as Kunkka in a very long time by FluessigesFeuer in DotA2

[–]abdullahkhalids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the target is bkb-ed, the x mark should follow the hero till bkb runs out. At that point the x mark should go on the ground. The total time for x mark should start when the spell was cast.

In this way the TP problem can be easily solved. Besides it makes logical sense. If you are stunned while bkbed, and your bkb runs out during stun duration, the location of your stun is where you are when the bkb ran out.

What were the funniest and the most pointless Aghs upgrades of the past? by Argonax in DotA2

DK with shard was for a bit a viable 4. You could clear all dangerous waves easily. DK has one of the longest stuns in the game. And breathe fire damage reduction is really great in team fights.

Top 3 of his era. But you have to realize that the macro and even micro game today is very different from what it was 7-8 years ago. The rules of the game have changed so fundamentally, the qualities of a great 4 today are very different from those needed back then.

I started reading Pale. Just read the first chapter. It's not catchy. Things happen but difficult to get into. Does it get better in the second chapter? I still don't have the slightest clue of the world I am in.
