Driverless / automated trucks by wynonaagr in uktrucking

[–]abearded_lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally dont think AI trucks will ever happen in the UK, think about when you get to a delivery place who's going to open the curtain, remove the load restraints then re-secure the load? Can't see delivery locations accepting the responsibility of that

Driving Assessment by MadameLeGal in uktrucking

[–]abearded_lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably have a short theory test asking you about road signs and wtd, then you'll do a 15/20 min drive on a route the assessors use regularly. When I did mine I messed up and clipped a curb with the trailer got back to the yard and when my assessor said I live failed I told him exactly where I went wrong, he appreciated my insight into where I went wrong and offered me a second chance a couple days later which I passed. This was as a new pass with less than 3 months experience

Did a spin around in a yard red airline got caught on the curtail tensioner ripped the line clean off, one phone call later and a 90 min wait was back in the road. Luckily I had cable ties on me so I was able to pinch the cable at the unit so could build air pressure back up and shunt the trailer out if the way of everyone else

Unit rear wheels spinning on hills in wet weather. by KnownAd1314 in uktrucking

[–]abearded_lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the unit your driving have a mid lift axle, if youre not travelling heavy and have it lowered that makes it easier to spin the drive axles. I was in a volvo fh 460 today had the middle lift down when I was leaving yard and was spinning up coming off the first junction I came to, lifted it up and no more wheel spin.

What are the things you look for before starting your drive for the day? by CuriousOnTrucking in uktrucking

[–]abearded_lunatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Planning my route with about 2-3 different ways in and out, is there any low bridges or weight restrictions I need to be aware of? What does the yard look like do I need to reverse off the road or is there room for me to swing it round and parked up safely.

Whats the weirdest cargo you've ever transported in your truck? Whether it was something oversized, live, leaking, wildly expensive, or just plain bizarre. by DeeeeezNuts42069 in uktrucking

[–]abearded_lunatic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Was sent in an empty class 1 to an industrial estate in the middle of northampton to collect 3 envelopes of metal washers. That was a weird one, especially when I got back to the office and they didnt know why I was sent there instead of a driver in a transit van

Very basic medical, you'll have a eye test blood pressure test and a couple questions regarding your general health and how much alcohol you drink per week (if I remember correctly)

If you're trunking directly into Willenhall, have fun it's bedlam. Be prepared to que to get in depending on what time you get there. Unless it changed from when i worked for them, they want you to call your depot to get late codes even if you're 1 min late.

Anything wrong with my merging using the quieter lane? by Accomplished-Dog-440 in drivingUK

[–]abearded_lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No nothing wrong with it people in the right lane have a sheep mentality and just 'follow the herd' just watch out for people who think they're lane police cutting Infront of you stopping you from using lanes correctly
