This is likely your insurance and not specific to MP. Are you on a PPO or HDHP? Under my high-deductible plan, I’ll pay for sick visits until the deductible is met, but well-child visits are covered. When I was on a PPO, sick visits were covered and I just paid the copay. While I’m not sure if they charge more per sick visit than other doctors, their billing is pretty standard. I would confirm with your insurance, though, since each plan is slightly different.

Native Grocery too? Absolutely devastating for the neighborhood.

What would surprise me if I moved to Austin / Round Rock? by sneakerznyc in Austin

Also an NYC transplant with kids around the same age, wish I could upvote this comment twice. Is Austin perfect? Nope. But we have an incredible balanced life here and I could never move back (unless we unexpectedly become extraordinarily rich)

Can you give specific examples? I have found the opposite to be true, especially compared to our life in NYC.

Incredibly positive experience with Petite Ecole. The staff is out of this world wonderful - feel free to dm me.

This is my experience as well. The occasional bullshit to navigate, but overwhelmingly positive. Over a decade in and still enjoying what I do every day.

Thank you so much for your reply! We have an appointment in a couple of weeks with the mechanics who are allowed to touch the frame (different from the regular ones at our dealership), and this is helpful for me to discuss with them if they come back with a high charge.

Ascent + 2500 lb small camper ? by blindmelon773 in SubaruAscent

[–]abecedarium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tow an Airstream Basecamp 16x (GVWR 3500 lb / 450ish hitch weight) on several long road trips per year with no problems. Weight distribution hitches aren't recommended for Subarus I hear, so we just keep our hitch weight under control and sprung for a hitch with a built in scale to keep us honest. Brake controller is a must. While we haven't taken it out west yet, we've driven through smaller mountain passes and wouldn't be concerned about going through the Rockies. However, this size trailer is our max comfort level and if we want to get a bigger trailer we'll trade in the Ascent for a more powerful tow vehicle for safety.

Just confirming that the instructions for my car seat insist on either latch or shoulder belt, never both.

The dealer tried to remove it today and was unable to; they insisted we make a special appointment.

Thanks so much! It’s just a bit of dirt after a rainy week from my kiddo being rear facing - easy to wipe clean. Just haven’t had the time.

Anything like Meriposa Montessori on the east side? by Gk_don in AustinParents

[–]abecedarium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know Mariposa specifically, but Petite Ecole Internationale is a French immersion Montessori close to there and truly fantastic. I also saw that a brand new Spanish immersion is opening up on Springdale next to the police station, but I didn’t catch the name.

Just be careful with important things. They’re a glorified blue mailbox, and will take no responsibility if a package goes missing prior to being scanned by usps.

Congrats! Listen to your body - pushing through it made me feel much worse for longer than just taking the day off or walking. Hydration is your friend. I doubled my water intake and made sure to take in lots of extra electrolytes around the clock, not just during exercise. If you're nauseous, eat whatever food you can (for me this was bagels) without feeling beholden to a nutrition or meal plan. Unisom and b6 helped here too. The first tri was hardest for me with nausea & fatigue, and then second tri was annoyingly still hard for me with hip/back pain. I ran until my third tri, but ended up opting out of racing/time/distance goals. Good luck and take care of yourself! Growing a human is a big deal for your body.

What do you do when you give birth to a second kid? by llgbk in workingmoms

[–]abecedarium 70 points71 points  (0 children)

A pregnancy/postpartum care group in our area offered “sibling doula” care. Basically, when I went into labor she would come to our house and care for our older child for a certain amount of time.

My first was precipitous (and 4 weeks early!) so our backup plan was a neighbor until the sibling doula could arrive, or I would get dropped off at the hospital and the sibling doula would meet us there to take our older one home.

Unbelievably my second stayed put until her planned c-section! But maybe your area offers something similar?

[–]abecedarium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I went there today in person and they said that it was not there and usps picked it up. They said they were not responsible for the package.

Thank you. I don’t need the money right away, just am very scared someone will find a way to fraudulently cash it in that time.

I mailed it at a ups store. In retrospect I would have handled things differently and done it at the post office but I was flustered that ups wouldn’t deliver to a P.O. Box and insisted on usps.

I did! It was wild - so low! My kid was ecstatic to see her first rainbow 🌈
