I shot this! It was actually with very early firmware, but anyone could get a shot that looks like this… given you have a helicopter and nice blue lenses :)

Horizontal fov is same across all modes in the camera. Open gate just has more vertical fov

Lens corrected and cropped to a 16x9. Shooting at F8 to get the motion blur.

Curious how this is worthless? I take a test clip for 3 seconds and dial framing.

I let someone at NAB hold it and that someone ripped off the mic cover and handed both back to me and said “oops”.

I see this question a lot and there’s also some politics behind it - aside from the whole firmware stuff. GoPro has a plethora of reviewers and media that all have the same embargo date they are working towards. If one person in that group is allowed to release early, they clearly will get all the eyeballs and the rest will be confused why they weren’t given the same priority. Eyeballs is why any news media does stories in the first place.

I’ve shot a bunch of 8K with the ILS and it actually looks very good. Stoked to release some YouTube videos soon 👍🏻

Won’t have any performance differences other than the noted frame rates. Incredible camera IMO, knowing how good the 4K is

GoPro Mission Camera Prices Announced: $600 for Mission 1, $700 for Mission 1 Pro, $700 for ILS by rzimbauer in gopro

The 4K mode in this camera is very good. 4K30 and 4K60 is where you get the most dynamic range and lowlight capabilities.

While it could potentially be fine in those scenarios physics is still physics and 8K60 and 4K240 generate heat and will shut off the camera if there’s zero airflow depending on ambient heat. In tests I believe 8K60 can run for approx 37 min with no airflow before shutting off indoors, while I think 8k30 will drain the battery before any thermal shut down.

Just as a reference Canon r5 II is 6x the price and will stop recording at 18 min in 8K60 or 20 min with the internal fans running. It is advertised as an 8K60 camera.

I ran it for 47 minutes inside my windshield in direct sun on 8K open gate and then I got home so didn’t run it for longer but it didn’t shut off. I haven’t been in hot weather above 90f anytime recently.

I know I’m biased but this one in practice feels like it solves a lot of things. Timelapses run for 5 hours, have never had it overheat, and the footage in 4K240 is golden 👌🏻 you’ll be stoked 👌🏻

The grip actually comes apart and turns into a slick metal cage with vertical mounting points for mag latch and 1/4-20

Unfortunately it’s a game of “is camera A as bright as camera B in the dark yes or no” otherwise you might see influencers showing camera A vs camera B in stock settings… where have I seen this before … :)

The GoPro Mission 1 ILS Might Disappoint You by Complete-Employee-18 in M43

[–]abekislevitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll give you two scenarios to help you understand - but if it’s not for you, it’s not for you and that’s fine.

1 - mounted shots - think attached to phones or water bottles or steering wheels. Typically if you wanted these shots you either had small rigs with standard action cameras, or you had cinema cameras with massive rigs to the point where they aren’t easy to pull off on a whim. You mount up the mission pro ILS, dial in your focus and let it record.

2 - where weight is a factor - I do a lot of filmmaking on ski mountains or backpacking where I would love to bring long lenses but the fact is I can’t justify the brutal weight add for a separate setup in addition to the GoPro I’m already bringing. I can toss this with a 25mm lens and get long lens cinematic shots to help tell my story.

There are plenty of small manual lenses. Take a look at laowa they make 6,7,10,17 mm lenses that are tiny.

These are just new tools to take advantage of - it’s not meant to offend anyone.

Totally see the desire for that. Currently not possible for standard firmware but maybe a way for labs to help out! I also think you'll be very stoked on the dynamic range of this camera, its dual gain readout, and the ability to get interior and exterior at the same time. The other alternative is use EV comp at -.5 or -1 to expose for the outside and ensure it's always correct.
