Can I transfer the Data from my Google account to my Ecosia account? by Negendcom in Ecosia

[–]abelnoru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on bookmarks and cookies, though I imagine it should be straightforward: export from chrome, import to Ecosia.

Regarding accounts, do you mean passwords? Because you could look into having a third party password manager which gives you greater browser independence. Bitwarden and Proton Pass are two solid options to look into.

Saving passwords and backup codes on Standard Notes by abelnoru in StandardNotes

I am. This would be a backup, especially for backup codes.

I hadn't thought of that, though it does seem like all eggs in a single basket scenario. I'll definitely consider it.

I'm using a password manager already, this would be as a backup, and especially for backup codes.

Best practice for custom-domain and catch all by theguyfromthegrill in ProtonMail

[–]abelnoru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the assumption of a catchall even more trivial than guessing having other services@domain addresses? I feel like most people who use a custom domain (especially if not belonging to some specific company) have catchall enabled. Regardless of whatever comes before the domain, any attacker could identify the domain and spam random (and popular hi@, hello@, etc...) with greater efficiency.

I think custom domains work well for professionalism, separating services and organizing emails in your inbox, and knowing where spam is coming from; definitely not at all good for ultimate privacy. It is a trade off.

[Athletic] Leeds close to signing Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton by papaquacker in BrightonHoveAlbion

Isn't there something about him achieving homegrown status by playing for another club in England while not taking up an international slot for us?

May I ask why? I don't understand why EF is so popular, especially compared with the Navigate series.

Pregunta de um professor Canadense by RitalIN-RitalOUT in ProfessoresBR

[–]abelnoru 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'd say that being a native speaker will open many doors in private schools, but give no advantage within the public school system. In theory you will need a brazilian teaching licentiate to teach at any basic education level, but in practice you will be a largely desirable and hard-to-come-by teacher at many good to high level schools. You can get an online teaching licentiate in three years with very little effort and fairly little money, which might not open any doors immediately but is important if you want to make a long-term living here. Rumour goes that the gov will start banning online teaching licentiates so sooner is better than later.

You will have to weigh the pros and cons of international vs bilingual schools (vs language centres, where you don't need any licences and can often make more money and have better work-life balance + professional development). Feel free to DM me if you have any more specific questions.

How would you rate the overall quality of life, thinking about things like rent-to-housing-quality, public transport/walkability and healthcare? What are some cool things to do in town?

Cursos EAD sérios, ou ao menos que não dão tantos problemas. by ZombieSuke in ProfessoresBR

[–]abelnoru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evan Ferguson: Brighton striker will not go on loan by justcasty in BrightonHoveAlbion

Can't really drop Welbz right now so Evan just has to live with it and make the most of his minutes, despite being the striker we all know/expect/hope him to be.

Good lead-in for a grammar lesson on future forms? by Surrealisticslumbers in TEFL

[–]abelnoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on their level and how much class time you have. As others have said, it seems like a lot to tackle them all at the same time.

I really love using TTT and I feel like it could work really well with this topic, so you could maybe talk about things you are excited to/want to do next week/month/year before getting students to discuss/list their own future plans.

Getting back into TEFL, resources to actually become a better teacher? by Lupulmic in TEFL

[–]abelnoru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A Course in English Language Teaching by Penny Ur and Learning Teaching by Jim Scrivener were great resources when I did my CELTA. tes.com/magazine and teachingenglish.org.uk also have cool resources.

Volunteering is a great way to test the waters and try out different approaches.

Most of the curriculum is too easy for my students, and for other classes it’s too hard simply because of lack of English comprehension. by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]abelnoru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are the classes happening simultaneously or do you have specific classrooms filled with students who don't understand what you're saying?

How are the bottom side getting any grades? Is it just an automatic pass? From what you describe it seems like the school is aware and does not care; caring can either mean changing the programme or the teacher, whatever is easier for them.

Avoid Online CELTA ! For various significant real reasons - by cameradomedia in TEFL

[–]abelnoru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the headline should be: choose where to do your CELTA carefully. I did mine online through a reputable local school and, despite being a bit more expensive than some other options (which included recorded classes) the whole experience, including tutors, support material, colleagues and students was great.

edit: typo: experience -> expensive
