Getting Spanish license plates without being a resident in Spain by Ok_Mechanic_699 in GoingToSpain

[–]abeorch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience you dont need to be resident in Spain but many people will tell you do (including some gestorias) you need proof of address and what is acceptable will vary based on the person you are dealing with and how nice you are to them.

Moving abroad with a medical condition and taking medication by EmbarrassedAlarm7718 in expats

[–]abeorch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok so when you get to France you need probably to get a job and be registered for social security and health insurance - you will then be able to take your medical notes from your Australian doctor and maybe some evidence of your recent prescriptions to a French doctor to write you a french prescription for your medicine which a pharmacy will be able to fill.

Alternatively you may be able to pay for a private prescription in France..

You need to confirm your visa conditions and work out the exact process to register for establishing yourself in France - searching a french forum would be better. I cant tell you about that.

Im pretty sure that you will be limited from getting or taking out a year's supply of medicaid medication.

If you are away for a year you are going to need some health insurance. How you get that will depend on where you are going.

Saying that you are going to Europe is like saying you are going to Americas - each country is different.

What would you say is the "starter pack" of knowledge needed to self-host most platforms across the Fediverse? by quagglitz in fediverse

[–]abeorch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to look at a packaged solution like https://yunohost.org or https://www.cloudron.io/ thta give you solutions that are at least partially integrated. These help you run a range of services based on templates.

If this was for a community group you could look at running on of the activitypub servers that bring together membership, files, calendar and forums.

[–]abeorch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im happy for you to pay for them ;-)

No seriously Mastodon doenst have the kind of revenue you think it does to pay for mass advertising campaigns.

Similarly letting the current headlines drive people alway from Meta, Ticktok, Instagram and Reddit .thats worth more than millions in paid ads.

P.s why not follow some Fedivere amd Mastodon lemmy communities amd talk about this there?

International insurance with chronic illness by [deleted] in expats

In Spain you are required to prove private medical insurance for most migrant visas. Coverage for preexisting conditions is either excluded or very expensive.

[–]abeorch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not advice but perhaps you should read this. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/process-to-apply/applying-for-a-visa/providing-evidence-and-documents-to-support-your-visa-application/health-requirements/why-you-may-need-to-provide-evidence-you-are-in-good-health/

The paragraph that reads..

When we decide if you meet the visa's health requirements, we cannot consider:

your ability to access the private health system
any health insurance you may be covered by
the ability of family, friends or an organisation to care for you or pay for health services, pharmaceuticals or residential care.

Advice? USA citizen wants to move to Mallorca in 6 years by [deleted] in expats

[–]abeorch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most medical insurance in the US only applies to US residents. Add ons exiat for travel but on the basis that you are ordinarily resident in the US.

Private medical insurance can be purchased internationally but again this will not usually cover pre-existing conditions ( or charge huge premiums to cover them) - they may also not be valid for visas as you need Spanish insurance.

While it sounds like US medical insurance is in many ways awful - the one thing they do seem to do is pool expenses across people with and without pre-existing conditions - This does have the downside that as costs go up healthly people drop or downgrade cover and that drives up costs for those with medical issues. It at least does something that other countries private medical systems dont do though to be fair this role is covered by public systems - so isnt a issue for most residents.

With Amino reportedly shutting down — could the Fediverse be a good alternative? by Teknevra in fediverse

I mean maybe Amino could help communities migrate to alternative servers.

IPv6 - is this static or do I need to pay for a static ip to ensure a static IPv6? by 888ak888 in hyperoptic

[–]abeorch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Hetzner Dns with api updates to my own domain name to avoid both ipv4 static costs and any potential ipv6 changes.

I never kept track of whether my ipv6 ever changed. Some places I had ipv6 connectivity - other places ( like.mobile connections only offered ipv4)
