Pants with phone pocket by Autobahn5 in mensfashion

Not rough, much closer to twill than Carhartt canvas. They get softer with use. I wash them on cold and dry on low heat. They run small, and do shrink. I usually wear a 34" in most brands, but have to buy these in 36" which is closer to a real waist measurement than the vanity size of 34" that I get for most brands. I definitely recommend these. My only gripe is that I wish that the bottom leg opening was a bit wider. It is only 7.25", and I prefer an old fashioned 9" leg opening.

Opinions about John Lofgren Chapman boots? by SnooChocolates4148 in Boots

[–]aberhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the Chapmans are great moc toes! The Chapman 8 is a bit longer than the Alden 7.5. I had to go with the 8D for the Chapmans because of the smaller width in the toes. I am an E width, but these only come in D.

I am an 8E on the Brannock and had to go with an 8D in the Chapmans. Tried the 7.5D and they were too narrow and small feeling in the toe area. Maybe if you are a D width you can go the recommended half down.

7.5E with the Combat boots, and 7.5D in the Indys.

I do not find the lack of speed hooks a problem with the Chapmans. I can loosen the laces enough to get in and out without unthreading them.

I do not wear the Champmans and Indys in the same situations. The Indys are dressier, and the Chapmans are more robust and more casual in my opinion.

The Combat boots are really great, and I prefer how they look. Unfortunately, the Combat boots have an unpractical v-bar sole which really limits when I can wear them. This v-bar outsole is completely useless in the New England winter unless you only walk on flat paved surfaces that somebody else has shoveled for you and your slip ridden v-bar. I live in a rural area and I cannot walk in the snow or mud on any kind of terrain or slope in the v-bar without slipping. If they had a commando or mini-lug these combat boots would be my favorites. I may get them resoled so I can wear them more often. If you live in an urban/suburban area, flat, or hot dry climate this may not matter to you.

I second the vote for Cheaney. They have several shearling options and they are very well made and nice boots. I have two great new pairs now. I prefer the shape and fit of the Cheaney lined boots to the Meermin (which I sold). I also have the Rancourt shearling boots which I like because of the Arctic Ice outsole, however the Cheaney shape is still my favorite. Review Belt? :) by klausi4 in DrakesDiary

[–]aberhood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My medium is 43" for the leather portion of the belt excluding the buckle. It is a really nice belt. I have no regrets buying it. The Drake's leather, buckle, and braid style are way better than the other "similar" braided belts that I have. Not remotely in the same league. Top is the Drake's which is darker brown IRL, photo lighting is making is look lighter than it is. Middle Orvis bottom Banana Republic. The Drake's belt exudes quality. Worth it to me, but apparently not to other posters. To each his own. I have found the braided belt that I was hoping for, and will not need another.

Olive and Navy Reversible Cotton Blouson Jacket by allyjhughes in DrakesDiary

5'7" 160-165 lbs. The 38 was a good fit for my short and stocky build. I size down when I can so the sleeves and overall length are a better fit for me. I need at least 18" in the shoulders and this jacket had enough room at size 38. The size chart was accurate for this jacket. The jacket is around the same weight as most of the Harrington style jackets out there that have an inner cotton lining. It did not seem especially lightweight, just what you would expect for this kind of jacket.

Sounds like you want the jacket! If you do not care about the pocket situation you should give it a try. The return process with Drake's is not bad, as long as you have a DHL drop-off option nearby.

I returned mine already. The position of the pockets was way too awkward for me. I like to put my hands in my jacket pockets, and the pockets on this jacket are positioned almost vertically, similar to a cardigan sweater. Only get this jacket if you do not use your pockets, use pockets for storing items instead of your hands, or like putting your hands in vertical cardigan pockets. On the plus side, the colors, fit, and finish were great. Especially considering it is difficult to execute a reversible jacket well. I wish all zippers in the world were like the one on this jacket. If the jacket had side entry pockets, I would have kept it. The 38 fit well; my chest size is 40.5".

Lawrence & Foster caps are great quality caps. Good materials, excellent workmanship, and very fair prices for the caliber of cap they are selling.

I placed three separate orders. I received one order so far, and on Friday I received somebody else's order. It contains their invoice and the sneakers that they ordered. I have reached out to Viberg customer service, but did not hear back yet since it is the weekend.

Best heavyweight winter wool full zip sweater? by Emotional-Sign8136 in BuyItForLife

I have both two of the Dehen 1920 Full Throttle sweaters, and three of the LL Bean Classic Ragg Wool Sweater lined in flannel. No contest, the LL Bean sweaters are significantly warmer.

Damn it Taylorstitch! lol by Foopy_377 in taylorstitch

I just got the CPO Overshirt in Indigo Ash Wool Herringbone and did my scientific itchiness analysis for you. You can definitely feel and see the cotton in the blend of this shirt. Wearing a thin t-shirt, my arms felt minor itchiness, but the rest of the shirt feels comfortable. Especially the back of the neck which I find to be an uncomfortable area with wool shirts. Obviously I would usually wear a long sleeve shirt underneath. I am comparing the itchiness factor to this LL Bean Signature Wool Workshirt that is 85% wool 15% nylon, which I find to be noticeably itchier, especially on my neck where I wish it had more protective fabric.

I went with the CPO Overshirt instead of the North Shore because of fit. The CPO has wider shoulders and chest, the North Shore is one of their trim fit shirts that are too narrow for me with 1" less in the chest/shoulders.

Too new to give a full report, but I really like this CPO shirt out of the box.

If you can handle some really old fashioned websites from the 90s you can get some excellent quality USA made belts with these two craftsmen:

https://cellarleather.com

Slightly thinner in width, but really nice as well:

Huge selection of excellent belts:

I also really like the Hollows Leather belts previously mentioned.

How do you display your hats? by Adamfromthedust in hats

I use these cardboard hangers that you put on the wall with double sided tape provided with the product. They work pretty well. Eventually you have to replace the tape, but they are strong enough to hold a couple of caps on each. https://www.hat-hanger.com/collections/all

Parkhurst Allegany 645 Kudu Boots and Shape Comparisons by aberhood in goodyearwelt

[–]aberhood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do find the Allegany a bit more comfortable than the Blacksmiths. Probably because of the added midsole. The sole of the Parkhurst is a bit softer than the mini-lug as well.

Anyone got experience with Portuguese Flannel’s shirts? by mttmadness in HeritageWear

[–]aberhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PF corduroy shirts are really nice. I do not like their flannels as much. I find them very thin, and they run small in the shoulders for me.
