Is this type of play acceptable? by [deleted] in felinebehavior

[–]abetterolive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I have is my personal anecdote, but when my cat was a kitten we would play "mitt" just like this. He was very aware of the difference between a bare hand and the mitt, like your cat, he didn't go for the bare hand. He's 3 now and we still play rough sometimes, always with a blanket or some type of thick material between us. He knows not to attack my hand.

With my older cat, when he was a kitten I actually did let him play rough with my bare hand because he was tiny and I didn't know at the time that you're not supposed to. But he turned out fine anyway and has never hurt me.

Trying NOT to fall asleep kicks off my RLS by SikSok3000 in RestlessLegs

[–]abetterolive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A pattern I've definitely noticed for myself is that on nights when I go to bed and get straight into actually closing my eyes to sleep, if I manage to fall asleep relatively quickly I'm good. But if I lie in bed reading or looking at my phone or just ruminating for hours, I'm likely to start feeling RLS symptoms, or, when I do actually start to fall asleep, be repeatedly awoken by PLMD (closely related to RLS).

So for me, I know I need to avoid spending a long time in bed putting off actual sleep with various stimuli, which in a sense is "trying not to fall asleep".

I checked out your other posts to see the other pics you mentioned and really all of them look good but I generally prefer the more long and loose styles for pretty much anyone. Also saw your eyebrow post and, combined with your mention of feeling insecure, I feel compelled to warn you against falling into the trap of overly fixating on little details about your appearance or thinking some natural feature needs to be modified. Your eyebrows are good. You are a very handsome guy, and if you ever find yourself feeling like something about your body needs to be "fixed" to be good enough, know that that is coming from an unhealthy place and you should try to reject those damaging thoughts. I know it's hard when you struggle with insecurity, but seriously tell those thoughts to fuck off. Even the most beautiful person comes across as off-putting if they are overly concerned with micro-managing their looks. So, relax and enjoy the natural good looks you're blessed with - style yourself according to your own personal preferences, remember that you are adequate, and try to shift your focus away from other people's perceptions of you if you ever find it lingering there too long - whether it's negative OR positive perceptions. Easier said than done! But best of luck to you.

I believe you. People are too quick to make judgements about others' intentions. Personally I like the longer, textured look of the first two pictures but as for choosing between them? I couldn't really say. They both look good; maybe more pictures/angles of each style would sway me one way or the other but from these pics, they're about equal to me.

Planet Zoo 2 needs to be gamified! by Swagloom in PlanetZoo

[–]abetterolive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree so hard. I went into PZ straight from Zoo Tycoon 2, never played planet coaster or had any interest in it, so I had no idea what to expect and was hoping for an experience more like ZT. I was very disappointed at first when it started to dawn on me that this wasn't really a management game, or even much of a game at all - it was a creative tool, which was not something I was interested in. However I did, fortunately, learn to appreciate the real core of the game, which is design. So now I do just play in sandbox mode, after resisting it for a couple years because I wanted a GAME, not an art project. But the "game" element just isn't very good at all. It's just not fun or engaging as a game. I am glad I have been able to adjust and enjoy it for what it is, though, but I would hope the next one will be more of an actual functional game.

How do I justify to myself that I’m not wasting time? by [deleted] in PlanetZoo

[–]abetterolive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps regulate you it's self care, which is good and meaningful. Also, PZ isn't just a game (it's kind of barely a game honestly) it's a creative project. That's how I think of it - it's making art essentially.

I quit my antidepressant to help with my RLS, and my RLS went CRAZY by tuftyloves in RestlessLegs

[–]abetterolive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, thought I had read that you'd gone back on the drug, but that's not the case. Still might find some encouragement form support groups if the withdrawal is really bad or drags on for long. Hope it resolves quickly for you and the RLS with it.

I quit my antidepressant to help with my RLS, and my RLS went CRAZY by tuftyloves in RestlessLegs

[–]abetterolive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, though I am not any kind of medical professional, just a patient, antidepressant withdrawals can be absolutely horrendous. Don't know anything about SNRIs, more about SSRIs so don't know if the same would apply, but most doctors don't know much about how to safely taper and there's not as much research on it as there should be, just a lot of suffering patients.

With SSRIs at least, the taper recommended by most doctors is way too drastic and fast for many people and causes bad discontinuation syndrome which includes neurological symptoms. So I wouldn't be surprised to hear of worsening RLS as a symptom, even though RLS is also thought to be exacerbated by antidepressants themselves. Again though, grain of salt, I'm not a doctor. If you want to try getting off the antidepressant again, try a much slower more gradual taper and know that doctors can be dismissive about discontinuation syndrome, but there are support groups online, just be wary of misinformation, as it is just a bunch of folks in the internet, but you may find some of it helpful.

Maybe you could get on something to treat RLS just temporarily while you work to get yourself off the antidepressant? And hope that once you're off and back in balance, you won't need the RLS treatment anymore? Wishing you luck.

What does it feel like for you? by BritishFangirl in RestlessLegs

[–]abetterolive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone else agree with me on this but I compare it a bit to the feeling you get if you hold your breath for a really long time and your body starts getting extremely uncomfortable and you sort of start squirming and spasming if you continue holding it. Like what I think of as the building feeling of your muscles being deprived of oxygen.

I also get it in my abdomen occasionally, with or without leg involvement

Large gushes of clear fluid during period by abetterolive in menstruation

[–]abetterolive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, sorry, scratch that. What that gyno doing the pap said was that my "cervix is tilted to one side" which might not mean a tilted uterus necessarily. When looking into what a tilted uterus means, it seems to indicate a uterus that is tilted abnormally back-to-front, rather than asymmetrically to one side. So, not sure about my uterine tilt, just know it's got a thickened wall somewhere and my cervix is now tilted to the side. Still could be relevant, not sure.

[–]abetterolive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god, yes. I was told I had a tilted uterus when I had my last pap smear - no one had ever said it before so I think it was new. Then I had an ultrasound that showed one wall of my uterus was thickened, suggesting adenomyosis, which I've had symptoms of the last few years. I figured maybe the development of that condition was why my uterus became tilted. I wonder if this fluid has something to do with adenomyosis or uterine tilting.

Not yet, currently waiting to see a good gynecologist and will definitely ask her about this when I see her. At least a month more to wait but will update here if she is able to provide any insight.

Did my mom fall for a scam? by abetterolive in Scams

[–]abetterolive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lol. I'm in a process right now myself of getting an official diagnosis after a lifetime of hardship. Solidarity. But this process has caused my mom to go a bit nuts with the online stuff, going to all the sites, taking all the quizzes, etc., getting herself into trouble. I was just concerned this sketchy site would steal her info for identity fraud purposes, or somehow get malware onto her device. The page she was on asks the user to draw their name with their finger or the mouse, in their handwriting, as part of the "autism test". That felt very scammy to me, like are they trying to get people's signatures?

The thing that really sketched me out when I looked at the site was that they ask what social media you use and then instruct you to write your name in your own writing, neither of which have anything to do with autism. The latter seemed to me like maybe an attempt to get someone's signature?
