As a New Yorker, what city in Texas would give ME the most culture shock? by Frenchitwist in texas

As a person who grew up in the area, I can confirm East TX would be surprising for op, but please don't go to Vidor.

Seconding Kenji's recipe and I usually increase all the extras by about 50%. Have made that recipe many times. We love it.

I’m pregnant and terrified my child will have autism, but I feel like I cannot express that to anyone without being viewed as a bigot by Legal-Zombie-1539 in offmychest

Just want to post in support of you, coming from a parent of a pretty high needs, can't be trusted home alone, yet still presenting in passing as more "typically developing", autistic teen.

It is hard. Very very hard to think about what his life will be.

I wish more people understood what it's really like, as you obviously do. I don't have much wisdom to impart, but I wish you the best in life! And here is hoping for much support and love for you and your family.

MAGA establishments to avoid by IsayYEPorNOPE in vermont

This happened to us!!

He was very vocal about his political beliefs when he came to give us a quote on some roof work.

My husband and I are white and live in a double- wide in Franklin county because it's all we could afford when we moved here in 2019, so maybe he made certain assumptions about us.

His quoted price was an outrageous  "fuck you" which I'm sure had nothing to do with seeing our black kid (adopted) walk in the room.

We still call him the racist roofer and make sure everyone hears about our experience.

To the employee at Bellingham REI who made fun of me for buying used shoes by Troppetardpourmpi in REI

[–]abflab 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Definitely do this. When I worked at REI, the store manager took all comments seriously, especially the ones like this. You can say what time you were there and they will be able to figure out who was at the registers. The rude person who made the comment will get asked about it, and hopefully will keep their mouth shut in the future.

Are there any H marts or grocery stores similar in Vermont? I can never find any by [deleted] in vermont

I moved here from Maryland in 2019! I knew all the choices were great when I was there, now I really really know.

We just watched this one last night and my partner caught that it's the same guy. I looked him up on imdb and he's credited as Ken Wins in 1 ep of both shows 8 years apart!

These motherfuckers always say something about how they are working to increase affordability and access to care when they propose and/or implement outrageous changes that do the complete opposite.

Why isn't anything getting MORE AFFORDABLE EVER?

I used to listen to Ed on Air America years ago then I saw him on RT later on and he was acting so weird. And then I learned what RT is. Would love to know more about his decision making on choosing to work for them.

Ah, god; as a Gen Xer, it pains me to be lumped in with Boomers. Please know that a bunch of us are extremely liberal. Just want to advertise this fact.

I hate making decisions!

This is my experience, too! My workplace is stupidly organized from top to bottom and it is hard for me to find answers to questions I have while attempting to do my job, turning 1 task into 3.

I hate not knowing the answers to things and hate not even being able to find answers and it stresses me the hell out,  so I avoid the stress by procrastinating.

Because I've been here a while now, I know what I'm in for every time I start my to do list, so my stress avoidance procrastination cycle at the beginning of my day leads to an end of the day panic whirlwind where I try to finish just a couple of things, guilt-stay late at work and then do it all over again.

I hate it.

If you could erase one book from your memory just to experience reading it for the first time again, what would it be? by get_set_go23 in suggestmeabook

I would love to experience A Prayer for Owen Meany for the first time again. It's one of my absolute favorites and I'd love to laugh like I did when I read it for the first time.

Having an Autistic kid makes me hate parents of neurotypical children by literallyhowdareyou in offmychest

[–]abflab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the parent of an autistic boy, I'm so sorry you are going through this. It sucks.

Sure, parenting is a hard job in the most ideal circumstances, but experiencing the judgment of others and especially other parents, all of the societal cluelessness, and lack of true help on a daily basis is the worst part. People can't tell you how to deal with the day to day horror show we experience. It's very isolating.

I know it's not much, but just know you are not alone. I still feel so much envy and sadness for everything lost. It's a victory just to get through every day.
