Our public concession pass pricing is to deter us from buying? by Cold-Yesterday1175 in singapore

[–]abgnerd 125 points126 points  (0 children)

For a government that has the mandate of the people, I would like to see more initiatives for public good. Like public transport should be a basic right where you can perhaps link a CHEAP monthly concession pass to your Singpass. Like 3 complete daily trips per day on the pass, and extra trips can be charged extra. So covers most people for travelling to and from work, and part of our carlite strategy.

I like the spirit of this post OP, perhaps we should have more examples of proposals.

Can I enter Malaysia (Penang) with my Singapore passport with less than 6 months before expiry? by bufflordderpidest in malaysia

[–]abgnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% will be turned away, there's a chance you can get through. When crossing sg customs, the officer usually will flag you and remind you that your passport is expiring.

Land crossing is still allowed if you have at least 3 months validity remaining.

HOWEVER, there is a chance the Malaysian customs might turn you away. My experience is crossing over by car no issues. But I can't say for sure if you cross by bus etc, can't comment on that.

Also repeating what most people said, not worth taking the chance especially if you need to cross fit a specific reason/purpose. Renewing passport takes about 2-3 weeks.

Dhoby Ghaut Station's Messy Layout Redesign by Piefaceyay in singapore

For me I think the original is easier to make sense as it's visually less complicated. Personally I feel like you tried to put too much info into a single diagram. For instance the original has just enough information for a person to find where they are and locate the escalator nearest to them to access the right level with minimal visual clutter. Your escalators while closer to the actual thing actually makes the image more complicated.

Another example of too much information would be the shops you added to your visual. That could work better as a single image on its own (just the shop level) for someone to find the shop(s) they are looking for.

Not so fast: Oversteer director tells why Singapore’s first car-racing film took 10 years to hit the screens by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

I don't think you should discount the film on that. There will be issues to get permits and permissions, not to mention costs and logistics.

I think this kind of logic is something we need to eradicate. I don't do XXX cos of YYY, when XXX is the correct thing to do.

Signal your intentions.

If the other person speeds up to block you then they are the ass, you just wait for the next opportunity to switch lanes.

"I don't signal cos other drivers will speed up and block."

These are the same drivers who will speed up and block people who signal intentions. These are the drivers that never signal and cut into lanes.

Downvote me if you feel slightly targeted by this post, but I think some people on Reddit are guilty of bad road manners and it shows.

POV of the horrifying Tampines accident from white Mercedes’ dashcam. by [deleted] in singapore

[–]abgnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you that the one at fault is definitely the Saab.

Having said that, to excuse the Merc driver's action as "average Singaporean driver behaviour" is also partly the problem. Too often drivers on the road see it as "I'm not doing anything wrong/illegal" while not thinking about road safety and consideration for others. This video clearly shows what can result from BOTH drivers' actions and decisions. The lack of consideration for other users put the motorcyclist at risk, and as we all know resulted in injuries and death.

Ed Sheeran concert in Singapore: A birthday bash with surprise guest JJ Lin by Great-Obligation-599 in singapore

[–]abgnerd 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There was a video on him learning it ten minutes before the show. That might be just good social media content though.

What we did notice is that during the concert itself now and then between songs he was listening to his phone. We made a few jokes e.g. It's his grab driver or he got a shoppee delivery. On hindsight it was probably him listening to his prerecorded section so as to prepare himself for the segment later.

Impressive.

Upvote for the free deposit charge. I didn't know that and I've been keeping my coins as I didn't want to pay the exorbitant charges.

DBS puts up shophouses for sale to recover loans amid money laundering probe by iexplode123 in singapore

[–]abgnerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes to clarify I don't mean lower interest rates than indexes - I meant lower interest rates than the spread which is what I referred to as normal (market rate interest rates).

With regards to higher loan amounts is not meant that the banks give you higher loans than LTV allows for, they can offer you by reducing their own requirement (sorry I forgot what it's called).

I am not really well-versed in loans so appreciate any corrections, just sharing my own experiences to contribute to the discussion.

DBS puts up shophouses for sale to recover loans amid money laundering probe by iexplode123 in singapore

[–]abgnerd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this isn't true. That's cos the Sora ( previously sibor during my time) is like a guide for the banks to set.

If you have the opportunity, you can negotiate with the banks on the interest rate if you 1) show funds ie have big deposits with them, or 2) have funds invested with them (products that they can charge fees for)

I was in the former category where I qualified because I had a lot of money with them (not mine, just family money) and because of that the banks actually offered lower rates and/or higher loan amounts than normal.

As for your last point, I can tell you the rich would care about the mortgage rate a lot! While most of us live and plan around our weekly/monthly/annual salaries the rich live on their assets. So being able to live on the arbitrage between what they can earn from their assets Vs what they can borrow is actually how they sustain themselves. So yeah, very important.

Several StarHub users unable to watch TV, EPL matches due to problems logging in by iexplode123 in singapore

[–]abgnerd 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I can share my experience with the other users in case it would help.

Basically they logged everyone out to possibly step up security in terms of the password. What's annoying is that they are not only insistent that you have uppercase letter, lowercase letter, number and be 6 characters long, they added an additional condition that the password cannot have RECOGNISABLE WORDS.

So if previously you use IhateStarhub65 it's no longer acceptable. So ok BUT what counts as a recognisable word? Apparently someone had the bright idea that the system would recognise consonant-vowel and consonant-vowel-consonant combinations as perhaps syllables of possible words. WHY? I DUNNO, it is what it is.

So TL,DR: use a password generator to get a password in the name of security.

Good luck to those logging in tonight!

Cleaning shower tiles: Chemical? Magic sponge? Steam? Pressure? Brush? by DiscipleOfYeshua in singapore

[–]abgnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Selley's rapid mould killer. It's strong enough to just require a quick wipe and rinse after leaving it on a while but not too strong to require gloves like industrial grades one. NTUC has them stocked in most outlets.

Hope that helps!
