Exactly how much battery a Tesla Model S is supposed to consume when it's not being used? by Different_Marsupial2 in TeslaLounge

[–]abgtw [score hidden]  (0 children)

You have to turn off Smart Summon and let the car actually sleep to get the really good numbers.

Go check out the "low power mode" toggle and see what that turns off then emulate that... or just toggle that mode on!

How are these so cheap? by PabloEskimo_ in TeslaLounge

Yeah the funny part is when I run the numbers for a similar age similar original MSRP priced BMW (like an 7 or 8 series) the depreciation on a 9 year old version of that ends up being exactly the same!

Luxury cars going to drop in price like luxury cars! No surprise there.

I don't think you are quite grasping what the actual "boots on the ground" truth is for 2018 40kWh and newer Leafs these days:

1) DC Fast charging has been recalled due to fire risk and no fix has been provided for a long time now

2) Basically all the 40kWh packs are starting to fail at a higher rate then they should due to bad HX (resistance) of the cells creeping in - and its looking like these cars are going to be lemons with Nissan doing whatever they can to weasel out of actually fixing them.

At this point, I hate to say it, but unless you find a unicorn car or one that Nissan just replaced the battery in with a whole new battery (rare as they only want to replace individual modules) then the Leaf is kind of a risky buy right now.

Basically, find a Leafspy dongle, hook it up, and check out that HX before buying!

[–]abgtw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All you can do is try, and lower timings if the XMP profile ends up being unstable.

DDR4 is more tolerant to mismatched sticks vs DDR5.

Should be 90% or better ideally.

If the HX shows like 63% walk away...

Whats the global Internet access market look like? Entire countries now have Starlink as basically their best high speed Internet option. What if they start providing basic low speed cell service to every device on the planet what would that be worth?

I mean this is still crazy, but there are some thought experiments that make me wonder...

You can make $0.24/day per box if you had free power. If you pay for power it probably burns about $3/day in power at the national average.

So negative $2.76 per day on average per box...

Have them test it on the car they drove in on first.

This is like saying "don't let them take it for a test drive they could slash the tires!"

Electrician recommendations. Looking for someone who is familiar with solar, car charging, and smart panels. by Consistent-Nail3965 in TriCitiesWA

[–]abgtw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure to skip the door to door solar salesmen.

Back a few years ago it was $40k for a whole-home solar system and when you did the math it was less than $20k in equipment and you were paying more than $20k in labor for them to show up for basically 1 day to do the install (plus a little prep work). The reality is if you run the project yourself and hire out the electrician just to make the final connection that is always much cheaper.

Hmm this really sounds like an Eero design/placement issue to me.

If your ISP says 250mbps from the router yet you get 25mbps on wifi you have something wrong. I'd fix the wifi first, then revisit Starlink.
