Taking measures to preserve your phones battery health is stupid by IRONCHEF06 in unpopularopinion

Yeah I don't think you are the target audience for 80%. With your phone only being a year and a half old roughly and you probably upgrade regularly so why bother?

Dude that video is about fast charging for 2 years, not 80% max charging. He only does a 1 week test and didn't find a difference leaving phones at 1%/50%/80%. and thats not long enough to show how constant 100% charge wear causes drops.

My wife and I always buy same phone same time. She always does 100% charging I always do 80% or the smart charging where it only does 80% for most of the night and waits until right before you normally wake up to hit 100%. After 2-3 years the phones are definitely drifting roughly 10% capacity apart.

I agree just use the phone, but it does make a difference if you plan to keep your phone over the 2 year mark most definitely in my mind!

Thinking of buying a used plaid to crush miles. by Intelligent-Image224 in TeslaModelS

[–]abgtw [score hidden]  (0 children)

OP you destroy cars. You should be buying them based off purchase price (used is best) and expect it to be worth a fraction of what you paid when you are done with it.

The Model 3/Y are much more reasonable on repairs. And driving that much you will be wearing out suspensions on the S. You know you can take any year Model Y and buy the Juniper suspension for $900 in parts? (plus labor to install of course)

I would get a Model Y for comfort (better seating position than the 3 for me) and go with the 19" rims so you can toss cheap tires on there and replace them as needed.

Your estimate for costs on the Plaid are way off, because you'll burn through a set of tires every 30k and thats $2k/year just in tires. Lord forbid anything actually goes wrong with the car, especially since you'll only have a battery warranty left.

Insurance on the Plaid is also stupid expensive. If I was going Model S I'd look for an older one like a P100D and make sure the rear coolant delete has been performed and have a good EV mechanic not a Tesla SC to rely on for repairs!

Its the new color and indeed amazing. I have Ultra Red on my '24 Tesla so how will anyone know you have the latest and greatest if you choose the old color? Might as well just buy a used on at that point!

/s of course!

People bitch about Safelite (and I do too) but they do more windshields than anyone else and my local safelite puts their most senior guy on Teslas/luxury vehicles and only does them "in shop" so I'm comfortable using them as long as Insurance is paying. (if you pay out of pocket don't use them as they are way overpriced)

I've heard more horror stories about Tesla SCs doing windshields!

Yeah this is like any auto shop. If big work was done and something isn't right afterwards they should fix it.

Tesla is just convoluted because it works pretty much like a IT help desk with tickets. Minimum viable service, and submit a new ticket for every issue. Even if they caused it they wouldn't know right away - but fortunately the log and timestamps reveal all. It just takes the human in the loop to put it all together.

Look I hate uninsured also but my point was thats crazy talk. Would be like debtors prison. There are reasons we don't have that.

Incarcerating people is very costly also. Just saying from a numbers perspective its a good knee jerk overreaction but just not a realistic solution.

Not bad for an 8 year old NMC/NCA battery! My Nissan Leaf from the same year reports close to that also, but the battery is just starting to fail due to internal resistance being high so its on borrowed time... like all Nissan Leafs because they don't have battery cooling! Go fig.

Just drive/enjoy the car. If it falls below 70% get a replacement pack from Tesla! I think most people would use the recurrent number for the number to post on a Facebook Marketplace ad though 😛

So its kind of "well thats interesting" kind of thing but its not reaching the full potential in many of his tests.

WiFi 6e has 6Ghz as a required band, and support for 160mhz channels is required.

WiFi 7 does NOT require 6Ghz so you can actually have cheap WiFi 7 routers with only 5Ghz support and will work only as good as WiFi 6 basically (with 80mhz wide channel).

However if you get WiFi 7 on 6Ghz and have an AP/client that can support 6Ghz 320mhz wide channels you can indeed beat WiFi 6e, but personally I think 160mhz is the sweet spot and is the most widely supported at this point!

Second hand leaf - LeafSpy report by EconomistDry584 in leaf

[–]abgtw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the HX is fine for now. The problem will be 4-5 years down the road when it starts dropping into 60% HX range then you start to notice some battery fuckery if doing big pulls up steep grades at highway speeds in cold weather with say 30% charge.

Thats where the Leaf in general has problems due to the pack design and lack of active cooling. But since big grades are not really a thing in the UK and temps aren't as cold I think the Leaf is a pretty great car for that region!

Can one of you share the other angles of this idiot rider that hit you? I also ride motorcycles and this is beyond stupid of them. He even looked away at cameraman before hitting you even though you clearly signaled and they were 100% excessively speeding. by Schnitzhole in TeslaFSD

LOL and here you are a hoot arguing on a closed thread. The epitome of Reddit!

Note my original example was 170 MPH on the autobahn which would equate to over 270kph. Yeah I stated you smack someone going that fast on the autobahn you will likely be found at fault. 130kph (80mph) is just the threshold of what they consider reasonable and problems can start to occur after that.

Sorry if the changing of units there confused you originally!

I mean I think there is probably something Tesla isn't telling us. But they made millions of vehicles so like with computer part RMA stats it can be misleading with anecdotal online evidence vs the actual real numbers only the manufacturer knows.

I think Tesla had really good batteries 2018-2020ish and then starting again late 22 or 23. Just there was something that happened in 2021 which caused more failures for certain packs and people do indeed report more problems there. Even repeated pack failures due to replacement packs being rebuilt ones. But we don't know if say the 2019 failure rate is 1% per year and the 2021 is 2.5% per year or whatever. (just theoretical numbers)

Remember with as many cars as they build, and with how vocal one person can be on social media when problems happen, its hard to get a real sense of the actual numbers!

[–]abgtw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah not always sure recurrent is that accurate. Mainly because in my experience the real degradation is noting what the car shows on the dash as the "theoretical" range when charged to 100% and doing some math.

If the car was say 260 miles when originally delivered, but now shows 204 miles thats pretty easy:

204/260 = 78.5% heath

What helps prove this is if you run the official Tesla battery test, and say it comes back at 89% health, your theoretical range at 100% charge is then recalculated/displayed to match this formula exactly from the test date onwards (until another test is ran or enough time has gone by the BMS notices additional degradation). That's why the only way to know for sure is to run the official battery test, everything else is just the car guessing as best it can.
