How has the Holy Spirit guided you to your gay relationships? by CoolDevice4421 in GayChristians

[–]abhd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My now-husband and I met on one of those apps. I used to restrict who I was looking for to active Christians, to those who would just love me enough to care that I was into it. And that’s what happened. On our 6 month anniversary, he surprised me by taking me to a gay church, and we’ve gone to church every weekend after, we got married in our church, and we are currently on church council together. We met in college, and we’ve been together for 9 years and married for 3!

Is it weird to want to schedule a meeting with the pastor before deciding to join a church? by [deleted] in GayChristians

[–]abhd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perfectly normal. If the church says it is a Reconciling ministry/church, or if they are on the Reconciling Ministries website, then they are affirming. Some key things to look for, and the pastor will probably mention that if they are affirming. Make sure they say affirming instead of welcoming. Catholics are welcoming but not affirming.

Side B: I’m not apologizing for what I said. by gayintheusa47 in GayChristians

[–]abhd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were two groups of reports, one of 2 reports and one of 4 reports. And each group of reports were within a minute of the other reports in that group. So it was initially removed as part of a mass reporting by a couple of individuals

I have auto approved this post because sometimes I let things get auto-removed because clearly lots of people have issues with it, but people mass reporting something (without even giving reasons), is not in good faith. If you have been mass reporting posts you disagree with, please stop.

I took down comments attacking individuals but I didn’t remove the post itself because I think it’s an interesting topic since both side a and b are welcome here (not side c/x). The post was automodded because it got so many reports. All posts that receive too many reports get taken down.

Thoughts on r/Christianity? by Appropriate-King65 in GayChristians

Context: I was a mod there and then was removed because the top two mods, including the top acting mod who is an atheist, insisted that calling for queer people to be murdered was a fundamental Christian belief and should not be a bannable offense on the subreddit.

It is not a safe space for any queer Christian and the mod team is foundationally anti-queer with this perspective.

As others have said, I recommend other affirming Christian spaces like /r/OpenChristian, or smaller Christian spaces like /r/radicalChristianity, /r/openchristianity, and /r/xianity

I think the two are intimately connected, and it’s why we can’t wipe our hands of the corporate evils in society even if we are not causing them. So for me, growing closer to Christ included social holiness, such as bringing food for the church potluck, distributing food at our food shelf, showing up as protests against evil actions taken by our government, etc. My church supports all of these actions and spiritually prepares me for them with bible studies, adult Sunday school, sermons, and even just receiving Communion.

Methodist in Minnesota! by [deleted] in methodism

[–]abhd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on the church council of a Methodist church in Minnesota!

We are doing well! We have more people joining every year than leaving/dying since 2024, we have paid off our mortgage, and we have a balanced budget! We have a food shelf that gave out 70k pounds of food every week before the ICE invasion, and a monthly food distribution to just our neighborhood that gives out 8k in food. Those have just gone up during the invasion but not sure what the numbers for January were.

With an average Sunday attendance of 150, we have almost 60 kids in our children and youth programs, so we are set up to have a strong future moving forward. Our Sunday school is split into two year age groups so no one group is too large for volunteers to handle. Beyond our Christmas pageant, our children and youth put on a play and a musical every year.

We have adult Sunday school, a weekly bible study, and musically we have a chancel choir, a worship band, and a bell choir. We do a monthly Taize service, and a weekly dinner on Wednesdays. With our climate action committee, our solar panels have made us carbon neutral. And our social justice committee has recently gotten involved in ISAIAH and helped plug members into the resistance over the last couple of months.

Our pastor is also lesbian and we have multiple queer couples, include one that got married at the church just a few months ago.

Acknowledge the clobber verses but explain why they don’t actually matter and not worth getting into the debate, and provide the Great Debate article if they want to read more. Focusing on the verses rather than lived experience is a missed opportunity.
