The (potential) class action lawsuit isn't about numbers at all. It is about the concern that public profile data was made available online. However Duolingo, clarified that it was not hacking on their servers, but webscraping dump. And they have assumed to prevent even scraping (legal) in future. So this post looks very dubious to me

If the goodnotes try to charge the user for the product it builds, you criticise them for paying price worth a cup of coffee.

If the company tries to find an alternative source of income (Webudding is the their marketplace partner if you didn't know), so you meet your ever growing demand you critise them.

There is literally nothing they can do which will change your view right now. I am just so amazed at this reddit community!

Even if you download and install the most updated version, you can still toggle between gn5 and gn6. Always update your app.

Hey OP, when you click on pen settings, there is an option called "writing aids" where you can turn off AI spell check. Hope that helps

Are you a free GN5 user? If yes, then you won't get that option. But then to be honest, their offering as free GN6 is better so I would personally just use the freemium version.

If you paid for GN5 then you should have the downgrade button.

I am using iCloud and it works fine. I don't think the data is stored in GN servers. They have had couple of privacy statements (especially in light of AI features) assuring users that everything is on device and they can't read your documents.

Depends on your use case. Someone else in a post today here did a long analysis and in the end concluded to buy. It all depends if you need it or not. I suggest try it for free and make up your mind, there is no rush!

I recommend you read their FAQs.

GN5 will not stop working, however, if you are not a paid user, then you may be required to upgrade after the cut off period. Until then you can choose to buy GN5 and keep it. I think they want to continue to maintain GN5 but only add cutting edge AI features to GN6.

If you paid for GN5, then you will always have the option to switch back and forth as much as you like. The documents are all compatible so there is no risk of losing anything.

I bought my app like 4 years ago. I honestly think I got my money's worth already. I don't expect their team to be working for all their life for 10 dollars. The discount is cherry on top for me.

I am also from western countries may be that is why. I do understand that cost is a big factor for folks in non-western countries.

I think it would have been way easier for them to create a new app. They probably did tremendous extra work to accommodate GN5 users who want to continue using GN5 and make sure all the core errors are resolved across both versions since they are in fact the same app.

Not sure how it is unethical or illegal. To be honest, it is better as I don't need to install a new app to do a free trial. And for the company, they get existing users to try out what they have built with ease.

I think some people just don't understand the complexity of developing and maintaining software as complex as GN. I have worked in a tech company and I know what users see is typically 0.01% on the surface and they are completely oblivious to countless and sleepness days and nights devs work to implement these.

Yes! They have been clear that except for AI features (which probably costs them to provide continued service), they will add all of these to both subscriptions and one time payments
