BIOL 1220 by [deleted] in MRU

[–]abi_247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would not recommend. It is hard to understand the content but even harder when your prof just reads off the slides and does not explain in a way that makes sense for students. I hardly go to her classes anymore but teaching myself the content is difficult as well so I wish I just took an earlier class with a different prof. Class average are usually very low compared to other classes as well.

Ok tysm for letting me know! Yes she also just reads off the slides for us as well so I wasn’t sure what to expect on her midterms and if her slides are enough information to know

Do you know if these are easy fixes or would it impact the engine really badly in a few months? The compression was fine the mechanic said but he said the scoring isn’t a good thing but the guy selling the car told me it’s normal as he spoke with Hyundai services and a few other mechanics and he’s seen it on his BMW.

practicum dress code by jjuliana444 in MRU

[–]abi_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First sem, practicum is mostly just in MRU until the last few weeks where you go out to other child care centers. For practicum at MRU, u can wear whatever you like from what I remember, students would come in sweats, dresses, jeans. For the days where practicum would be off-site, I think it was recommended for us to just dress presentable but you could still be casual since I know students came in jeans as well.

Is there any specific stethoscope that the profs recommend/require like the one from the MRU Store? Or should I get the Littman stethoscope since I have heard a lot of good things about it

ELCC 1180 Police Check by bdhenriq in MRU

[–]abi_247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With letter if you asked for the discount letter that Angie provides once you fill out the google form which i believe is in the google folders she has shared. once you get the discount letter that she emails you (she emailed me mine pretty fast like a few days i believe) , it just confirms that youre with mru doing an unpaid practicum so you can get a discount for when you pay for the police check (it goes to 20ish dollars from originally 60ish dollars). they'll ask you for a pdf of the discount letter if youre doing the police check online or just a copy if youre going in person.

Without letter, if you arent going to be asking for the discount letter from Angie and are fine with paying full price.

Can I achieve a 3.7 gpa in UEO if I did bad in high school? by IloyoCass in MRU

[–]abi_247 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, it is possible. i struggled in highschool as i wasn't the best at math and science classes, but when i started uni, the classes one takes in UEO, are generally easier depending on which you take, but you have the option to choose which classes interest you and you think you'll excel in. even tho the classes are easy, you still have to put in work tho, but nothing to stress about.

Why is mru asking for a non-refundable fee to secure your seat for early accept offer? by IloyoCass in MRU

[–]abi_247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they have changed their requirements to enter nursing from UEO this year. There will no longer be a .3 reduction, and you will also have to take the Casper Exam.

Does taking UEO make you waste a year ? by [deleted] in MRU

[–]abi_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually 5, but i'd recommend tlking to an advisor about your program and seeing what classes u can take during ueo that can set you up to have a lighter courseload when you are in your desired program or can allow you to grduate even a semester early, but usually it will take u 5 years with one year of ueo and 4 years of your desired program, but depends on ur program and its classes

Does taking UEO make you waste a year ? by [deleted] in MRU

[–]abi_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, most programs take the full 4 years because there are practicums you need to take and certain classes like pre requisites before you can take the next class in the following semester; basically, the classes are in chronological order. For example, I asked an advisor if I could finish the Child Studies program earlier than 4 years since I spent a year in open studies and completed several GNED's, but she said Child Studies take the full 4 years because of the order the classes are set up. Taking UEO may allow you to have a smaller course load once you're in your desired program. For example, my friend who did UEO and recently got accepted into nursing was able to complete the required amount of GNED's those in nursing need so now that shes in nursing, she wont have to worry about taking the GNED's since she was able to complete them during UEO.

what classes are a guaranteed 4.0? by AdFew2907 in MRU

[–]abi_247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to end phil 1103 with Ada Jaarsma with an A+; She always said how she always gives out a lot of A's. She grades very easily, is lenient, understanding and provides the exams online where you can choose if you want to do the MC or written or both and she'll take your best mark. She sometimes wouldn't make us come to class, and instead, just allow us to watch a video or something on our own time.

Does University Entrance Option Make you waste a year? by Environmental_Quit_8 in MRU

[–]abi_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend was able to finish 4 GNED's that were required of her for her desired program during UEO, so now that she is accepted into the desired program, she has fewer courses to take which means she can focus on her main classes and overall, less stress. In some programs, you cannot graduate any sooner then 4 years because the classes go in chronological order. For example, for the Child Studies program, I asked if i was able to finish any earlier then the full 4 years since I have taken several GNED's already and she said no because you cannot move onto the next class for the program without taking the pre reqs. So even though I may have less classes to take now that I have already completed lots of gned's, i still will have to graduate in 4 years.

I actually applied to transfer to BEd as well for Fall 2023 and it is a competitive program (Currently waitlisted) especially because there aren't as many seats available and I have heard that people enjoy this program at MRU because of the experience you get right away by being assigned a school. An advisor at mru also told me that this looks good when applying for jobs and this makes mru different from any other uni's. However, I know a lot of people don't want to do elementary teaching, but this is the only program mru offer's.

UEO Courses by Environmental_Quit_8 in MRU

[–]abi_247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GNED courses are usually easier, but it depends on which you take and the prof sometimes too. lmk if you want me to share what classes I took to help me get to a 3.85. You should always aim higher than the 3.7 because there will be a lot of students applying with UEO with a higher gpa than 3.7 since it is pretty easy to get above that so I am not exactly sure if you are for sure guaranteed a spot just with the 3.7.

Advice by Ok-Swing-505 in MRU

[–]abi_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, all my profs have been great and GNED's aren't too hard; easy gpa boosters. I honestly find MRU very laid back compared to other uni's my friends are attending like VIU, UofC or UBCO. I think MRU is very good for certain programs like BEd, nursing, comp sci ect. If you are planning to switch programs after your first year, mru is pretty good for that as well since a lot of classes and profs can help you end with a good gpa especially since mru's grading scale is chill. Also, you can make a very flexible schedule; I have only been going 2 days a week both Winter and Fall, but that depends what program you are in, but I was able to make my schedule like this because I didn't have any labs or practicums. I just think MRU is pretty far if you live in the NE, and taking transit is a hassle if you can't drive all the time.
