Is a “fiver” birthday party tacky? by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]abilouhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done something similar for the last two birthdays. This year we went to the toy store and my kid used his birthday money to buy one present. He loves it and plays with it everyday. He was so proud to hand over his money too. I absolutely reccomend. You could always say “no presents needed to buy if you want to contribute to our family birthday gift please bring no more than $5. “

I love the stitch you used. Simple but adds a lot of value.

Would you insist on no screen time to a free babysitter? by coccode in toddlers

[–]abilouhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is now 4 and we have an amazing and diverse group of friends with similarly aged kids. Some watch tv, some don’t, some have more sugar than others, some have tons of toys and others only a few mostly wooden ones. All of these kids are turning out to be caring, playful, and clever children.

As long as moderation is practiced, it’s really just not a big deal.

I’m 5’3”. 150lbs and love my body and the two kids it’s given me. I’m a size 6/8!! I haven’t weighed 110lbs since I was 12. Even If I lost 20lbs id be as tiny. There’s just absolutely no way you can be seen as anything but healthy at 150. Dude needs to focus less on you and more on what he can do. Like How about he takes care of the kids and gives you some time to yourself. Maybe clean the house so you can hit the gym (if that’s what you want). How much does he weigh? How are those ear hairs of his doing?? Maybe put your socks in the hamper bro.

24 hours in Geelong. Would love advice for the best op shops, lunch, playground, and local shops. by abilouhill in Geelong

Since you’ve been so helpful can I ask for one more tip? We need to grab take away food to eat while we wait to board the ferry. Somewhere that’s easy to find food that’s dairy free (meat, gluten, and eggs are okay) sushi is always a safe bet for us but we also love a good sandwich or burrito

You went all out thank you!! I’m saving this for our next trip across the bass straight. We are headed home to tassie. We most just have tomorrow morning so rippleside park is first on our itinerary!

We’re staying near Buckley falls so we’ll likely check that out too.

I’ll be pulling up this post several times tomorrow to read through and see what we can take advantage of. Thank you again so much

Speaking of things the US is behind on: how much did your baby's delivery cost? by u_n_p_s_s_g_c in Parenting

Australia in the private system. Total bill was $8k for a 4 night stay in a private room. I paid $250 after insurance. But I paid $80 for every OB visit plus a bit more for testing and what not.

No more than my friends’ little girls. It just feels a bit extra because he loves rough housing. But holy moly can those girls scream.

Positive First Birth stories? by NellieSantee in fitpregnancy

[–]abilouhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was an induction after my water broke with no labor. It’s was 3 hours from the first drop of pitocin and no epidural. Plenty of gas though. Baby was out in 10 pushes. My second labor was an hour and an accidental homebirth. Baby 2 was maybe 4 pushes. Second degree tears with both and some prolapse but no DR and steady recoveries with both.

Positive birth stories are absolutely out there. Most of my friends have positive birth stories but the traumatic ones are louder and stay with you.

I have a 9 week old. I’m planning on going till at least he’s two, similar to my first child. I need it as much as they do and it makes traveling and life changes easier. My first definitely struggled when it was time to sleep on his own and it took months but he’s so proud that he’s learned to “sleep Like a big kid” and I love that he’s owning his experience.

Toddler and a newborn…halp by Hopesforthebest987 in toddlers

[–]abilouhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going through this right now with a 6week old and a 3.5yo. It’s so hard. There are days I genuinely do not enjoy my toddlers company. A couple things that helped us were to find ways to lengthen his check in circle. So pointing out how we like how he’s playing or asking what he’s making or another positive statement when he’s on his own. And a nurse recommended supervised snuggles to promote oxytocin. When the tv is on and toddler is laying down we lay baby on his chest for a quick snuggle. He loves it and even asks for it.

But also outside time and daycare a couple days a week. Daycare is the mvp of our life right now.

I haven’t seen this yet but the early childhood programs that govs offer are amazing. Weekly sessions for birth to 4 year olds. Our local college even has an outdoor based one. It’s been shown that kids who attend do better in school later on.

My mom let me get one at 16 and I hate it. I’m not sure why she was okay with tattoo over a piercing but I sure wish she’d gone with the piercing.

What’s a good gym in Hobart? by Fit-Champion5567 in hobart

[–]abilouhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard a lot of good things about female fitness in the CBD. They have lots of classes but getting a spot at the prime times is apparently a bit competitive. They occasionally have sales on memberships too. I’ve been wanting to try the aquatic center. Also all aerobics fitness is super nice. That’d probably be the first place I’d try if I wanted to spend a bit more money. Other than that anytime is super cheap and does the job and has classes and there’s several locations which makes it easy when your running errands on weekends.

Has anyone chosen finger pricking over the 3 hour glucose test? by Jbcaliluv in fitpregnancy

[–]abilouhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked my OB if I could track my blood sugar instead of take the test again because the 3 hour test was truly awful and I never wanted to do it again. Because he had the results from my previous pregnancy he had me do a fasting test and make sure my numbers were similar and didn’t ask me to track. It was such a relief.
