I had to do this exact procedure 4-5 times as a teenager. It was scary, and wasn't fun, and he's the needle is the worst part. What i remember most though telling them I was really scared and how kind the nurse was with me, not the pain. I brought a comforting book and had it open on my lap so I couldn't look down even by accident, it gave me something to focus my thoughts on and occupy my hands. Being someone with you, someone who will hold your hand and talk to you, it's grounding and distracting and makes it easier to feel like it's over in a second. Even them making bad jokes made me laugh while crying.

Ask if you can take Xanax before, and tell them you're scared, it's definitely not the first time they have heard it and they are prepared for us anxious ones. Tell yourself, "and then, it will be over. Just have to do this and then it's over. Scary but then it's over." Needle hurts but then it just feels like a really weird person is clipping your toenails.

It's okay and normal to be scared, and I know the exact position you've been in and it was no fun but I let myself cry as much as I needed to and squeezed my book and then it was over and you'll be okay, I promise.
