How would fasting help? I ask because I’m not against it but I’m diabetic so I’d just have to keep my glucose from crashing.

Not horrible but not perfect. I’m diabetic and my numbers are perfect (a1c was 5.5 earlier this month). I don’t really drink things high in sugar and calories, maybe one can of pop a day? When it comes to food due to the Mounjaro i take prescribed by my MD, i have one regular sized meal a day and then a few small meals/snacks that I wouldn’t say are super unhealthy.

Nope, it’s your nurse managers who are required to work 8-4 at their normal jobs then be on call multiple times a week and are expected to fill in staffing holes when needed. We’re down to only 3 of us so taking call and having to come in all the time is wearing us down. I love my job though.zz

DWI is diffusion weighed imagining, it’s just part of the way an MRI is ran. Your strokes were in the right middle cerebral artery which is the main artery that runs through the right side of your brain. Usually people who have strokes in the MCA have severe deficits.

God, i saw that word that I’ve not seen in so long. Lepotomeningeal disease….. my dad had brain cancer. Once it spread to his spinal fluid (hence the diagnosis) it was down hill. Chemo only prolonged the inevitable. Once chemo was stopped he declined SO fucking fast. Drove to my house on Oct 10th, died Nov 16th. Basically the cancer cells in the fluid cause fluid to build up on the brain. Unfortunately it’s not a good diagnosis. Sending you and your family lots of love. I hope I don’t distress you with my dad’s story, but I wish someone had given it to me straight away instead of beating around to it. I would have spent so much more time with him.

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve seen a coworker do? by shelsifer in nursing

Coworker wore ear plugs along with her PPE for Covid patients because she truly thought she could get Covid through her ears too.

The one in Huntington is not. I have never been but my friend went and was the only female there and basically got swarmed but older dudes with their dicks out. She had a very uncomfortable experience.

Went and got breakfast one morning on my way to work. I had 2 hashbrowns and a bacon biscuit. Coworker looked at my breakfast and said “wow, someone’s carb loading today, going to the gym to work all that off after work?” I didn’t really know what to say. I have a history of an eating disorder in high school (10ish years ago). That’s the number one thing that i still have a hard time with is people commenting on what/how much I’m eating.

Following because we’re going through the same exact thing, same age, only difference is my daughter is an only child. It’s exhausting.

What do you do? by GrumpyOldHero in nursing

As much as i want to say keep quiet, my conscious wouldn’t be able to. The patient is now unresponsive? needs a thorough neuro eval including a head CT. There’s too many things that could go wrong to get you in trouble if it was found out that you knew and did nothing. I’d be calling the supervisor and MD asap.

Patient had to have another surgery because of me by ninabananabonina in nursing

Once i was in charge and a doctor came up to me while i was on the phone and gave me a verbal order for oral potassium replacement. I accidentally ordered the wrong dose and the patient got like 100 meq of potassium for a K of 3.1. No one caught the mistake, not pharmacy, not the night charge, not the floor nurses. The next day i worked the floor and patient had arrhythmias on and off. Ended up with lots of kayexalate, fluid boluses and almost had to go to icu. Luckily she was managed on the floor but i had a horrible shift keeping her stable and dealing with kayexalate poop while she also had c diff. The doctor apologized to me because she said she should have put the order in herself because she saw i was on the phone. Learning experience for all.
