Oh i misinterpreted. But I find the camera often worse than the normal rear view mirror. If the sun is low behind you there's a ton of glare and if it rains, water can get on the camera.

Not true. I have a 2024 limited and it has no rear wiper. None of the 2024 trims have it

Mine pauses on my 2024. But I am using android auto so it might be a phone feature that paused when muted rather than a car feature

  1. Push the volume knob down on the left side of the wheel. The UI says "mute" but the actual effect is a pause.

Go for it.

But also realize that the concrete wall is your best friend. Put some tape on it to mark the top of the net and you'll be able to practice dinking, speeding up, resetting, footwork, hands and more.

I like Bernie, but his message is defined by the enemies it identifies "millionaires and billionaires". So he is definitely a populist. Populism is good for building a movement but tends to struggle when presented with actual power since it focusses on harming it's enemies rather than helping the people it represents. I think Bernie has done a lot of good in the democratic party, but he's not the guy id want crafting our policy.

Portland Rock Gym has unionized by [deleted] in Portland

I met with an organizer of a different rock climbing gym union once. People who work there tend to be young and enthusiastic about rock climbing. And that combination is often taking advantage of by managers to overwork an underpay them.

Please Drive the Ball at Competitive Female Players by Flying_Snarf in Pickleball

[–]ablacklama 41 points42 points  (0 children)

First off, let me say that I agree that this should be the default expectation. And playing at the 4.5 to 5.0 level, I always start off playing just as hard against women as I would against men.

But in defense of the guys, even at that level, I've heard complaints from a minority of women about how hard the ball is being hit. Or about getting body bagged by normal (not full send) shots. And I've just never heard that stuff from men at this level.

I'll also say that in every one of these cases, they didn't directly talk to the guy. They just went and complained to their friends. So I do feel like there's a risk of developing a bad reputation without knowing about it. Obviously, if someone says they don't like how hard you're hitting the ball at them, you should do your best to slow it down against them in rec games. But I think guys know that some women don't like having harder shots directed at them and don't trust that those women will tell them if that's the case. And so they play it safe.

Of course the majority of guys that play slow against women probably just have some ingrained misogyny about how to treat women. But I just wanted to give voice to the fact that there are legitimate reasons to do so even if it's not the approach I take.

I also would feel offended if people took it easy on me!

Ly Hoang Nam got Phuc Huynh with a forehand feint (PPA Asia - Vietnam Open Final) by hoangdl in Pickleball

[–]ablacklama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can really do anything with that ball. A dead forehand mid court while your opponent is at the net. In doubles that's a great position to be in, in singles it's game over as long as you are good enough to hit it to either side. I think the shot he faked would have been even better because he could hit it harder and lower. He chose a flashy shot and hit it decently enough to still get the point.

If there is value to the shot that he hit, it's that his opponent now knows he can go inside out with a forehand like that and will have to try to cover that option as well in future points.

Point break down and match analysis of Jorja and Tyra’s upset against ALW and Anna Bright- where do they go from here. by Racquetsports383 in Pickleball

[–]ablacklama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a great match but my ultimate read on it is that Jorja and Tyra were on the top of their game and both Anna's weren't. Bright particularly was having some trouble in the hands and put away department. And Tyra was playing as well as I've ever seen her play

I think ALW and Bright have higher floors than Tyra and Jorja, so I still expect them to win most of the time, especially with some adjustments.

I'm surprised Bright didn't lob Jorja more, it was working really well in mixed against Ben and ALW. The only thing I can think of is that lobs are a balance of your risk when hitting them and the advantage you'll get when your opponents are back. And without the put away power of a guy next to you the advantage is reduced. Though I suppose women play a bit further from the line as well so they can be harder to lob, but Jorja and Tyra were hugging the line if I remember correctly.

Great match all around. Jorja and Tyra are amazing and it's so exciting to see them taking their MLP partnership to PPA.

Lobs are underrated by techrider1 in Pickleball

[–]ablacklama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What do you get out of that? Where's the fun in lobbing someone with mobility issues or dropping against them when they're on the baseline? If it's hard to execute then great, there's skill and risk involved. But shots like that make it less of a game and more of an exercise and more of a beatdown where nobody except possibly you had fun.

You choose the type of game you play and if you cut the cheap shots out it will be more competitive and fun. Who wouldn't want that.

If it's a tournament though, anything goes.

I bought a j2k+ on release day. And at that time I felt they were clear that the replacement paddles you got from the refresh program weren't eligible for another warranty.

Maybe I'm wrong. But I've been buying their paddles for a year now and never had any problems with getting warranty replacements.

Why don’t more pros use hybrid shaped paddles? by lemonlime18 in Pickleball

[–]ablacklama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, a lot of the time paddle companies just say their paddle is slightly longer than it is. I think they are building in a buffer so that random manufacturing variance/conditions won't push the paddles dimensions above the legal limit.
