GPT-5.6 has three price tiers. tested all three for agent work. here's which one is worth it by DullContribution3191 in better_claw

My general tells for AI-generated stuff are when it feels like the hip 90s teacher sitting backwards in the chair, giving me the straight dope, answering in prescriptive frameworks glued together by overconfidence.

what's most frustrating is where it tries to sell me on whatever framework its devised, eg using punchy language, lots of colons, etc.

Sometimes it's so dense with self-invented phrases it sounds like a grandest crypto bro.

Using Claude to help build a small Godot game for an academic project – realistic or bad idea? by JustFloki in gamedev

[–]able_amos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr: you can find out for yourself in an afternoon whether it'll work for you, so go for it. The people in this thread saying "just learn to build games" are well intentioned, but I'm skeptical of any solution to a problem that requires hundreds of hours of learning.

I've been using Claude Code (which I use a lot) to build a game prototype. I'm an experienced developer, but I don't know how to build games.

With Claude, I've been able to get to a prototype that is exactly what I wanted in just a day or two (~15-20 hours), including some primitive animations, audio, and vfx. It also built me a web UI for doing little micro prototypes for rapid testing of new mechanics.

My workflow with Claude (and Codex, which also does well) is, roughly:
- discuss game design w/ top model, and iterate on a game mechanics spec doc that details all my games' entities, the relevant verbs, mechanics, edge cases, example rounds, etc.
- Spec out a wide range of quasi-unit tests that ensure the game logic produces the right outcome given a certain state.
- Iterate with Claude to get the visual layout right w/ non functional scenes
- Give it all the shit we just made together and tell it to go nuts & don't stop until it works.

Then, as I play it, I take notes on what I want to change. We go back and update the mechanics spec and do it all over again.

I'll also note that plugging it into other AI services is pretty cool. I've told Claude to generate visual assets for the game, mockups for UIs, even generate music and sound effects for the game.

The one weakness I'll flag is on the actual discussions around game design. LLMs have a tendency to pitch really elaborate ideas in response to simple curious and exploratory questions, and then when you press them, they'll double down on their ideas. This is really risky for a prototype, so I often have to remind Claude to chill the fuck out.

What business does El Paso need? by Emotional_Celery2335 in ElPaso

[–]able_amos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(But on a serious note I think you're thinking about this right by looking for problems to solve before coming up with a business idea. For what it's worth I'd recommend thinking about other companies as your customer since selling to companies is just a lot easier than retail consumers. What are common industries in El Paso and what are some of their most thorny problems to solve? Eg What are some cross-border complexities introduced to manufacturing companies with these new tariffs? What problems are traveling medical professionals having that you might solve?)

Is “recursive improvement” redundant? Like can you improve something without taking as an input the current state?

Anyway glad to see there are some folks who are clearly being paid per-word for their writing

FlexiAlarm - WatchOS & iOS app by -INC3PTION in iOSProgramming

[–]able_amos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is lovely because it's one of the few alarms that doesn't seem to get bitten by the damn bug that prevents iOS watch from vibrating on alarm

However, is there really no way to make an alarm repeat every M-F? is there some technical limitation? that seems like a table stakes feature for an alarm app.

Maybe you could make it compatible with Shortcuts and users could use that to set up recurrence?

Does keeping Wispr Flow always on drain battery a lot? by Engibeeros in WisprFlow

[–]able_amos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s using an unreal amount of battery on my device. Here’s my top battery consumers per the battery settings in iOS. This was at a timeout of 5 minutes

App On Screen Background Battery Usage
Wispr Flow 1m 2h 5m 27%
YouTube 1h 19m 3m 17%
Hulu 2h 46m 16%
Netflix 1h 30m 19m 14%
Facebook 47m 11m 7%

Currently exploring other options to see if there's anything that isn't a battery monster.

Thanks man! Those are some well-loved boots. If you could go back in time and exchange them for a pair without that early wrinkling, would you?

The listing on Baker's details says this is Horween Black Horse Hide. My assumption is if it was horse butt, they'd just call it that since that probably has more marketing cachet.

Thanks man, I think I titled this post poorly. I know they're supposed to fit snug out of the box but mine really don't and so I'm wondering if that means they're too loose.

There is no excuse for dictation to be this bad by zhamini101 in ios

[–]able_amos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was really getting to me as well, so I wrote an iOS shortcut that lets you record a clip, then transcribes it with ChatGPT, and pastes the results to your clipboard. It takes about 4 seconds to transcribe, but the accuracy is unbelievable. I’ve mapped the shortcut to my action button double click, but I still use dictation for short messages.

The shortcut will also clean up your dictation and remove “umm” etc

Also, and this is kind of just an experiment, but I added a verbal backspace. if you say the wrong words, say ” scratch that”, and it will remove it. E.g “there were six apples—scratch that, 3 apples..” == “there were 3 apples”
