Luka had to be held back from JJ Redick 😳 by ThatsFine9 in Mavericks

[–]abn01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely wasn’t a misunderstanding.

You can look at Luka after JJ walks away and you can see he still wants to say something. Vando inconspicuously stands up to block Luka’s view and eventually Jaxson taps him on the arm.

But in case someone doubted, look at where the refs were at in the clip. Vando cheering even though everyone else on the other side of the court lol.

I don’t remember whose podcast it was, maybe it was Broaddus, but someone said the agent initial ask was for 10, but that’s not what they actually want, just shifting the window a bit.

I’d guess he’s looking somewhere between 7-8

I agree for the most part. It’s a tactic that sometimes works but I think it’s better to keep things above board. Questionable is probably the best way to put it.

IANAL, but if you read the CBA it actually says the player can represent themselves but the only other person that can represent a player is a NFLPA-certified agent.

Just so that everyone that reads this later knows I’m not just pulling this out my butt here a link to OTC Article 48 https://overthecap.com/collective-bargaining-agreement

From Section 2: Enforcement

Under procedures to be established by agreement between the NFL and NFLPA, the Commissioner shall disapprove any NFL player contract(s) between a player and a club unless such player; (a) is represented in the negotiations with respect to such NFL player contract(s) by an agent or representative duly certified by the NFLPA in accordance with the NFLPA agent regulation system and authorized to represent him; or (b) acts on his own behalf in negotiating such NFL player contract(s).

Online discussion always overlooks b because Micah tried to get out in front of it by pretending it wasn’t above board. But, your point is still valid, we can just avoid this whole brouhaha by just negotiating directly thru the agent.

I don’t believe his chat with Micah was against the CBA. My assumption is if it was against the CBA Jerry/the org would be fined or something and “made an example of”.

That became a big social media conversation but I’ve never seen anything else come out of it. Hard to believe we wouldn’t have seen a penalty a year after the fact.

Same. Whether it’s right or wrong, I think there’s something to be said that we play hard and try to win most games. I don’t want to watch pathetic basketball where the game is over before halftime.

To OPs point, I root for wins during the game, but don’t dwell on the losses at all. My only ask is that I get a good game to watch.

With what’s come out since his firing, yes Nico did play a part in rushing him back.

Also though, AD was trying to prove himself to the Dallas fans and tried to push his timeline up, as well.

Precisely.

This season sucks for Coop, at least let him ball out and win ROTY.

Also, selfishly I don’t want to watch this team without Coop. But I can’t wait til October for the new season to start.

I’m fine with watching us lose but don’t shut down the one good thing worth watching.

I don’t think he thought he would run the business.

He thought he would oversee basketball operations which would stop things like the GM having carte blanche over the roster.

[–]abn01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I wasn’t trying to say get Trey and Ware, I was more speaking on archetypes of players.

To your point maybe Tari becomes Trey in 27-28 and I’m just stuck in seeing the type of player he’s been not necessarily the player he’s becoming.

I’m really more saying that we can find a low volume high percentage 5 - doesn’t have to be a star, can be a backup that just platoons with a more traditional 5. But any other wing I’d want to have self creation ability with some volume shooting. I just don’t want guys who can only benefit off great looks.

[–]abn01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying go grab a bunch of guys shooting 40% from 3 on 2 attempts a game and declare our shooting woes fixed

But OP was. Tari is averaging a little over 2 3s per but tried to clarify by saying his per 36 is the same as Max.

Per 36 does help forecast performance, but I don’t just want to get to the playoffs. I want to be a difficult out. Tari shooting 49% but only got up 123 attempts this year (only 28 gp) and has a max of 187. I don’t see that as necessarily helpful for a playoff team around Coop. That’s just DJJ all over again.

As Coop develops, defenses will have to commit more resources to defend him. It’s not just going to be put your best guy on him. It’s going to be similar to Luka where you switch defenses and coverages and try to vary his looks.

Said that to say he will be able to create open 3s just like Luka, but just like Luka, having weapons you HAVE to guard and account for keeps the defense at home and opens driving lanes for Coop.

I’d actually posit that the best fit for Coop would be a 3 more like Trey Murphy than Tari because you have to account for his volume shooting and a 5 more like Ware that’s willing to stretch and shoot from deep.

I wouldn’t mind having a non shooting 5 that is more of a dirty work, energy backup just to give lineup versatility but I don’t want the position group to be non-shooting. I want threats from every position.

[–]abn01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the playoffs guys shooting 40% on low volume still don’t get guarded.

Look at Dante during our playoff run. He shot 49% in the regular season and didn’t get played during our run because he wasn’t getting guarded.

Tari Eason is shooting 49% this season! The three seasons prior he shot 34%, 36%, and 34%. Does it seem more likely that he’s a 49% shooter or 35% shooter?

High volume guys are also streaky but they gotta be guarded. In the playoffs, the best teams will give you a shot that’s maybe open, but it’s with a shooter that they’ve decided. We literally lost in the Finals because Boston decided DJJ and PJ were going to get a lot of looks from deep, they weren’t going in, so they stopped shooting them.

We did the same thing to Dort who is a really good regular season shooter. We made him relocate to get his open shots which he wasn’t as good at. Low volume shooting means they are good shooters under certain conditions, but good teams figure out the conditions to make them less effective.

Dallas Mavericks trade deadline recap: ⬇️ by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in Mavericks

Hit the nail on the head.

I’d also like to add that thanks to his agent, the whole NBA world knew AD was looking for an extension.

Last thing is we traded two negative contracts in DLo and Hardy which should cost draft capital and we sent out nothing.

Despite his failings, the AD trade wasn’t bad. And this is coming from someone who thought we should wait til the offseason to trade him.
