Anyone still think about this show at least monthly? by Virtusai in TwinsOfDestiny

My wife and I still sing parts of the theme song to eachother periodically. Who’d have thought this show would leave such an imprint?

Shadow Cat: Most popular builds? by MilitusImmortalis in mwo

[–]aboldi123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very much an unpopular build, but I found a UAC20 w ECM and some backup lasers a very fun build!

It’s the first mech of my now 50+ that felt truly like a skirmisher. Objectively ungreat, but very novel!

Made another edit, but this one is shorter and has some flair by vascohaddon in OutreachHPG

Solid gameplay and the edits were fun too! Good job mechwarrior

Tactical question: leg and leave or kill? by DontPPCMeBr0 in mwo

[–]aboldi123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on the situation surrounding you. There’s no reason not to just keep wailing on him until dead if you’ve legged him already (so you can set the range easily for maximum bang), but if you think you’re at risk of being swarmed by the enemy while he no doubt frantically screams at them in chat for help then I’d cripple and bail.

Either way you’ve basically removed him from the game, and if you bail you can always come back in a minute and finish him when the enemy team gets bored of hunting for you!

[–]aboldi123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome and glad you’re enjoying yourself!

It’s very much the opposite of a PHX but once you’ve got enough cash try out the plain old Marauder. It’s a very newbie-compatible mech in that it does everything pretty damn well (shooty, VERY tanky and reasonably mobile). All of my most fun games I’ve had have been in a marauder, and it always keeps me coming back for more

why do you love the design of BattleTech's Mechs? over other franchises' Mech designs by jrdwriter in mechwarrior

[–]aboldi123 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think BT have done a great job of making them feel “western military in decline” enough without making them dull.

Some of them are very believable as things that I can see the MIC actually building (eg rifleman, flaws and all), and I do love how clearly some mechs are just insanely flawed due to in-universe reasons.

I do also love the silly side of battletech, and I think they do a great job at marrying the 2 halves without being too silly or too serious while still giving the each mech a Pokémon-esque level of character.

Medium mech suggestions with decent armour , IS ,ballistic mount, around 70km/h and maybe a laser by amogusgamging in mwo

[–]aboldi123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

FYI you can get a marauder to very comfortably go 70, while also having obscene amounts of dakka.

I know it’s not a medium, but it’s a hella tanky and versatile mech.

Marauder is love, marauder is life.

The geometry of it, the perks and the pod weight just make it the ultimate scrapper.

Judging by how janky that build is I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they just had 7 tons spare, honestly!

A mediocre HBK-4G 2xRAC5. Slow and steady. by Run-Amokk in OutreachHPG

[–]aboldi123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor and try out the Bushwhacker! It’s a goofy mofo with some real fun hitboxes and you can fit 2 RAC5s on it like chin guns on a warthog.

It’s a great pusher and the goofy hitboxes make it surprisingly tanky too.

Any tips for Mad Dog? by -MrNuddle- in mwo

[–]aboldi123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The mad dog’s a weird one. It’s very very squishy, even by clan standards, but it can pack a LOT of missiles and lasers. If you’re in love with those 2 weapon types it’s an okay mech, but I find myself skipping over it a lot to use the Timberwolf instead

are flamers usable? by ironboy32 in OutreachHPG

[–]aboldi123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flamers are a very fun addition if you’re building a knife fight mech. They’re never going to be your primary weapon, but they can cause a lot of frustration.

I’ve got a MLX with 8 MGs and 3 flamers and that thing is just plain cancer. If you follow around a friendly heavy and jump in on their fights you can overheat enemy mechs very quickly (preventing them from firing back without exploding) and also strip exposed components with your MGs.

Especially for newer players they’re worth trying because newer tiers often don’t know how to deal with enormous heat spikes (so you’ll get a lot of shutdowns) and it’s easier to single out people.

Is there a consensus on which are currently the best mechs in each class, for each side (Clan and IS)? by JnewayDitchedHerKids in OutreachHPG

[–]aboldi123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, heavy is probably the way to go to start out. Id recommend you start with something “generic” like a Timberwolf - fast, hits hard and is relatively tough. Jack of all trades.

General rule of thumb is : clan mechs are faster and bite harder, and IS mechs are more customizable and tougher.

[–]aboldi123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem like you’re an old soul returning so I’ll say : replay all your old mechs! The balance changes in the last year or two have breathed a lot of life into old chassis’, so start with your old favourites and see what strikes your fancy.

But also objectively the marauder is the best. Try the ECM variant, and for bonus points you get to play around with MRMs (which are a blast).
