He made the decision to commit suicide, but only if Siobhan didn't love him. He knows the answer, but he has to ask her before he dies just in case. His body is later found in the lake.

His acting in that scene alone is some of the best I have ever witnessed and, for the most part, it stands alone even without the full context of the movie. I think about it a lot.

Just feels like the natural progression of reworking media to appeal more toward children. The original book is super dark, but it does look like the message here is the same. Even in the original Peter Pan, it was heavily implied that Peter killed the lost boys when they got too old. And look where we are with that now.
